    I have trainer many, many professional divers in the use of that model of OTS Guardian (and other) Full Face Masks (FFM). Doffing should not take that long or that much effort (even with a lot of hair). Simply use your thumbs to push straight forward on the bottom two (Jaw/Chin) buckles, thereby loosening them and remove the FFM by pulling it off your head from the bottom to top. No need to loosen any of the other straps to doff the FFM. Note: when putting the FFM back on U/W you will probably want to loosen all straps first (while breaking from your alternate air source) but that is not always necessary. I also made my FFM students give two OK signals; one after they are on alternate air and another once their half-mask is on and cleared. Keep practicing until it becomes simple and fluid - almost one continuous motion to remove the FFM.

      It just takes practice, lots of it. As a newer diver I always tried to work on buoyancy during my safety stop. It's at the end of the dive when you don't really have anything to do. I would always pick on spot on the anchor rope and just try to maintain that depth without moving.

      It was a gear demo for them so it wasn’t optimal from a setup standpoint. If this was their unit we would spend more time fine tuning things. Buoyancy is different in this unit. It’s similar to night vision for black water diving and takes some getting used to It throws your perspective off until you get used to it.

It's not the full first night of class, but it will give you an idea of what it looks like. We are new to live streaming videos to you tube, so this one wasn't perfect. Some of the videos didn't play properly and the sound wasn't great even when we did get it working. We are learning live streaming as we go! Thanks for watching though.

    One problem big rule of Scuba never hold your breath

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 6 років тому

      That's a rule of thumb for safety's sake, but the truth is there's no problem with holding your breath if you're descending or stationary; it's only when ascending that there's an issue. (Pulmonary barotrauma from lung overexpansion.)

  • @ebayerr
    @ebayerr 7 років тому

    Do y'all go out in open water and perform "emergency ascents" as well? That was really a fascinating test for me.

    • @sinkorswimscuba6196
      @sinkorswimscuba6196 7 років тому

      Thanks for your questions @ebayerr. We have a long list of skills we demonstrate to each student and then have them perform it. During the open water check out dives one of the skills we do is the controlled emergency swimming ascent. This simulates running out of air, and you don't have a buddy nearby to share air with so you have to make it to the surface on one breath. The skill works well, but ideally the diver always monitors his air and never runs out. That's how we teach everyone. Thank so again for your question. We love to hear back from our fans!!
