Billie The Pig - A Purpose For Children
I enjoyed this so much - shame it was so short! I went to Strathfield girls high school and graduated in 2010. We rented an apartment in Homebush for a few years then, behind the Nite Rider theatre! I have so many fond memories of the suburbs and live driving through.
Excellent.
This is the first time I’ve seen this movie and it is great !Some of the best surfers during the 1970’s.
wheres Chris Brock u show greenough but no Chris. Not to flash that.
Hey, I think that's George during the Angourie segment. Good show. Cheers.
Hi Michael, that is definitely George Greenough on the surf mat. The footage was filmed at Lennox Head. Phil
@@Phil-py2ls Yeah, cool to see, I thought that was him in the shot before the mat footage. Cheers.
Wtf...you got that heavy music for? 😅😅 totally not from the era, nothing to do with surfing... All the footage and filming is excellent though.
Mona Boy here… in the 60’s did MV Nippers, MV Primary, Pitwater High, …..lived Worriewood Valley and Bilgola Beach….Northern Beaches was the paradise
What a great recut of some classic 70s footage!
13:39 - Love that photo of Trevor "TB" Burslem in the red shirt with binoculars. He's a legendary Perth surfing identity (RIP 2006). He used to organise all the surf movies at the Regal Theatre, Subiaco in the 70's as well as write a surf column in the paper..
Hi Walk Cycle Thankyou for your footage. It's been 40years since I was capable of surfing waves this size. Again thankyou for the memories.
BK SUNSET, JERRY L PIPELINE...... they had it wired! They dominated!
great stuff! just one question.. did he say that Nuuhiwa won the '66 World Contest in San Diego? (about 32 minutes in..) that was the year that Nat Young won the title..
Hi, I'm glad you liked the film. David Nuuhiwa won the International Championship on the 10th of May 1966 at San Diego. Phil. I hope that it clarifies the narration for you.
Love this and great to see some friends in it too !
Thanks Deborah, it was a terrific film to make with all the fantastic footage my brother filmed in the early 1960s. Phil
Beautiful video. Love the chuckle at the end.
Thanks @pugmahorn, I'm glad youliked the film and my mates chuckle. Phil
🤙
Thanks Jack. Phil
20:40 mark. Drop in guy nearly gets speared by the board of the guy he burned. Another reason legropes are safe 😂
I also have a tail "off the ninch"
Beautiful!
Thank you very much John, it a nice film concept to make. Phil
Sydney people not welcome ok.
Excellent documentary Phil. The wetlands are a little gem!
Thank you @pseudechis, it was a pleasure to make this film. Phil
lived in Australia for a while in the past. this film captures all its beauty perfectly. good music, great photography and vibes. amazing surfers, a piece of australian surfing history.
Hi Alessandro, thank you for your nice comments about our 1960s film. Phil
Beautiful video. I like the quote "we are going back from whence we came". It reminds me of another quote by Jacques Cousteau: "the blood in my veins reminds me that I am the sea. And that the sea is me".
Thank you John for your comments, it's really nice have someone to enjoy my work. Phil
Thank you for the lovely video. The wetlands are one of my favourite places.
Thank you, the Warriewood Wetlands is a wonderful place to visit. Phil
Thank you, the film was great to make. Phil
Amazing footage and narrative, but why choosing music that is not part of that era? The soulful music of the early 70's (Morning of The Earth comes to mind) was an important component of that surf experience...
Your video felt surreal. Felt like I was traveling myself. Such wonderful cinematography. Just awesome. I will wait for next video.
Brilliant. I knew of your film when I was a grom, but didn't get to see it until this recent digital age. That era you so beautifully capture in The Making of AWT. Brings back amazing memories of being a young 70s surfer.
Hi Steve, glad you liked the film, it was fun to re-edit 'A Winters Tale' and have the digital version look so good in this format that so many people can enjoy it at it's best . Have a look at 'Surfing In The Sixties - Mona Boys' which is my favourite. Phil
Omg children and dogs in the croc infested water, are these people insane?
Hi Justin,it's not as bad as it looks. The waves are about a foot high and , netted. and lifeguards are on duty. The biggest danger is the box jellyfish, which were not around in May when we wert there. Phil
He was the bench mark . As a 15 yr boy in '75 , he was so much better than anyone
Yes Rob, he certainly was one of the greats. Phil
I surfed a lot in the 70s Equipment wasnt what It is today but had alot of fun in California
KARAHOUKAS Saquarema Surf Brasil 🌪🌪🌪🌪🌪
Much tougher generation. Bunch a sissies these days. Leashes and wetsuits.
That was a bad wipeout at sunset. Was that Eddie aikow
Hi again William, that heavy wipe-out was the late great Eddie Aikau. Phil
I have to shape my own skeg nowadays. All of the ones on the market are long and super thin. I ain't going for it. Those days they had no problem with those big wide ass skegs. Getting out of control. The make goes to whatever is selling . Not what's practical. This was must of been the best era in surfing ever. 6os and 7os. Style and flow. Attitude as well. You guys are a true inspiration for me. Thanks for the knowledge my friend
No problem William, the idea of this film was to show a fantastic era in surfing. Phil
@@walkcyclesydney1725 best era in my book. Epic surf history that is highly respected by me, thank you for spending so much time and energy to get this done
@@williamhanley7031
Thanks William, this is perhaps the best surfing film I have edited. So many people around have viewed it and enjoyed it because they can relate to it. Phil.
How did the style go from so damn good and fluid to stinkbug bad.
Hi William, I guess surfing competitions have demanded that style of surfing. Have a look at films with Dave Rastovich. He is a smooth stylist who does't surf comps but is regarded as one of the best surfers around. Phil
Im the first ! Excellent video with top-notch filming. Thanks
Thanks Tony, it was a pleasure to put this film together for my friends Tania and Bruce as the property is so special to them. Phil
I dunno - but for mine, the music soundtrack is completely incongruent with what is going on on film.....which is amazing - and the narrative is wonderful too....just imagine if there was a more complimentary music sound track....Australian music from the times being shot ,maybe?
Way to ruin a good surf video with terrible music 👍
Hi Leonid, sorry you didn't like the music. The good news is you are part of an elite group of 3 viewers out of 45,900 who agreed with you. Phil
Make that 4👍
🤙🤙
Thanks Jack, glad you liked thr footage. Phil
It's great to see old surfing films from the 1970s. I sure remember those days as I was actively surfing mainly Dee Why point. Good work guys.
Hi, H T I'm glad you liked our re-make of 'A Winter's Tale'. It was a lot of fun putting it all together. Phil
Thank you Bruce Done good surfed fine. Ian (Osker) Usher is the best I've ever had the privilege to watch, step into the suckup rock out the point.
41:57 wow
Thank you. Phil
38:03 beautiful surfing; Midget a respected man due to his virtue
Yes, he was truly one of the greats of Australian and world surfing. Phil
What a wonderful document of a special time, made even better by the commentary. Love the map!
Hi Al, thank you for your kind words. It makes all the work done in re-editing our 1970s surf film worth it. Phil
Fantastic footage guys awesome Surfed with Bruce Channon Cheers 🍻 CrouchOz
Hi Surfing Prospector, glad you liked the film, as I had a great time putting it together. Bruce Channon was and still is, a great guy and excellent surfer. Phil
@@walkcyclesydney1725 yes he is Surfed with most of the gang in my time I’m 70 now And busted up lol but still know how lol
What a fantastic film, epic shots! Brings back so many memories. I started surfing on the southern US east coast in 1972, at 16. Trip to Hawaii in wnter 1978. Got to see big Pipe and Sunset with my own eyes! So much style in the 70's. No one does bottom turns at Pipe anymore. People free-falling down that face was so radical. Definitely more dangerous.
Thanks nettwench for enjoying our film. A lot of work went into re-editing our 70s film ' A winters Tale'. When we get a response like yours it is very satisfying. Phil
Love the film. watched it dozens of times. Can you tell me when the North coast- Lennox/ Angas and Broken footage was shot? Thank you for the video
Hi Waxhead, the Angourie footage of Bruce Channon and Mark Richards was filmed in 1970. Lennox Head and Broken Head was filmed on separate trips in 1971 and 1972. Glad that you liked film.Phil
Totally wrong music, from twenty, sorry TWENNY years later...apart from that, great footage - foodage - deadpan, almost bored narration is also gold
Oh well, when you spend a lot of time re-editing an old film you get some likes and dislikes. Phil
Was that last kid running on the beach John John ?
Hi Barry, I am not sure, it was 50 years ago and I can't remember. phil
Special moments in a golden years
Thank you Christian, those years were very golden for us who enjoyed them. Phil
Great footage and stories, terrible music
Hi Jed, at least you liked the footage and stories which was the important most part of the film. I guess you can't please everyone with the music. Thanks for your input. Phil
that Neffex stuff was rough.. later parts sounds got better thankfully
Ya I loved the stories and all the footage so much that I was upset by some of the more modern style music that didn’t have the same soul and was too harsh that I had to mute the sound in those bits till certain songs ended ha but I still enjoyed the whole film and will look for the original now, thanks for your reply, best Jed
