Luckily they root shallow so they’re easy remove with gloves. Otherwise this is one of the best garden plants. The fruit is absurdly delicious and the thorny vines can be repurposed as anti-slug borders

Please contact your state to ask that nurseries properly label plants as non natives so consumers can make better choices. We are our own enemies in this area. Keep your receipts and plant tag and so you can get your money back. Need ID help for invasive species vs American species.

I know this is an old video, but I am pretty sure that this plant just popped up in a pot of potting soil. I live in Sullivan County, NY technically the Catskill Mountains, should I destroy the plant, and do you know where or if I should report it?

I went out and checked the wild grapevines in the back yard. These are definitely grapevines, not porcelain berry. The youngest branches, that are still green on the outside, don't yet have brown pith. Once the stem is brown on the outside, the pith is brown. So, don't assume that you have porcelain berry if you check only young green stems and don't see a brown pith. Be sure to check stems that are becoming brown on the outside.

This is a wonderful video. It would be improved if the author created a split screen view of the key elements of the different types of maple rather than showing them in sequence only.

In my over Twenty years of managing invasive plants on the same trails in Westchester County I am happy to report that many of the negative issues that Ryan M. warned about are very low probability. Cutting the invasive plants at the base and repeating the process until the natives shade them out works quite well. If there are no native plants to shade then anything short of total removal of all invasive plants will not be effective. If you have a Barberry in the sun cut it at the base before a drought. Shade out Stilt grass with natives if a narrow path is permissible.

I have found this plant slowly infesting local pond ecosystems near Peekskill. I was able to take an uprooted plant home to study its growth in my aquaria. I wish to learn about my native habitats to intern help them thrive

Nice job! I certainly hadn't considered the possibility that an invasive tree can serve as a guardian for emerging native species. Illuminating! On a tangential note, I'm working with Xerces Society on installation of a Bee Better certified habitat on a commercial blackberry and blueberry farm that my company operates in Vancouver, WA. I look forward to sharing learnings about promoting habitat for beneficial insects and native pollinators with VC ecology students. Josh H '83

Not partnered with Monsanto or Bayer huh? Anyone suggesting that we should spray those toxic chemicals into a forest is not wise, certainly, a poor steward of the environment. You could have done a better job by telling us which native plants are being outcompeted. As it is, I don’t believe this because there are so many liars in society who do dishonest things in order to sell their own products. People like the wicked dealers of Diamox who shamefully had a senior VP of a pharmaceutical drug company write a slanderous and stupid report about the coca leaf in order to ban it world wide. Medicine, they banned medicine. What wicked fools we have in government, people who work not for the love of mankind or God but for the love of money. So we must be watchful for schemes like the drug war and this seems like it might be one, just a way to sell more herbicide.
