Sunday walk with my babies… RIP both of you. See you again.
Love it! Looks like a good trail!
Hi Moe T, I have a 2023 4runner with 17,000 miles and has the same issue and one of the things I was able to reduces the nose was switching the motor oil from form 0w20 to 5w20. I know that you many would disagree but hear me out. 0w20 was made to improve fuel efficiency in the automotive market but in my opinion this factor does really matter to me, as these SUV were not made for fuel efficiency in mind. I would also say that I found a lot of metal shaving when using 0w20, and then I decided to make the switch to 5w20. I know out of people out there would disagree, but I do not live in very oil cold weather as I am living in Hawaii, and the temperature is always 80 degrees. As I had all these factors in place I decided to use Castrol GTX synthetic blend as I change my motor oil every 3,000 miles or 3 months due to heavy traffic and, ever sense the then the nose level has substantially reduced, and my fuel efficiency stayed the same. I would recommend you try it out once's and hear it for yourself and let you be the judge.
@@edsoverland1111 what’s up, man! I actually do agree with you believe it or not. I was reading about it somewhere about a month ago. Depending on where you live it is recommended to go from thinner to thicker oil…I’m in California and I did think about going with the 5w20 to see what happens… thanks for confirming… and as far as fuel consumption, I’m not worried about it cuz you don’t buy these to save money on gas mileage lol. I have had many cars and trucks and by far this is THE BEST investment I have ever made! Love this thing.
@@Jaico2024trd let me know how it goes 👍

Normal 😂 the old 4.0 sounds like a diesel engine
I have an sr5 and same noise. Worried the sh-t out of me, but evidently it's they way they sound
This is my second 4Runner the first one was a 2018 SR5 Premium completely modded with lift big tires the works, it made the same noise and my new 2024 TRD Off-road makes the same noise. It’s all good!
That is normal
Mine sounds the same within a few minutes of driving it gets quiter guessing something fuel injector/pump related or piston slap as it warms up it quites down alot so i would assume its a tolerance thing. My wifes 2014 doesnt do it however I've heard it on brand new runners. Mines a 2020
Have the same issue with Toyota 0 - 20 . Just changed to Mobil 1 0-20 and my engine is much quieter - have no clue why
See the attached video in my other comment it seems to be a pretty common problem. Mine sounds exactly the same way.
ua-cam.com/video/_Pe3unXOKUw/v-deo.html
Change the idler pulleys. Thought I might of had the same issue but it is a lot quieter since replacement.
Really? How many miles do you have on yours?
Only the idler on the passenger side was bad. Decided to replace them all just in case.
Glad to see all the comments 🙏🏽
Me too lol
My 2018 started doing this at 18K miles, when weather is cold in Florida. Typically goes away when engine warms up. It is a worry for me. Funny how new Toyotas do not do this while at the dealer. If only someone from Toyota could come on UA-cam and explain exactly what this is and why we should not worry about it. But Noooo... Makes you feel like you are driving a timebomb.
2010 135k same sound
Mine same , 2019 32,000 miles
2012 4runner sr5. 226k. Mine has a engine tick. I’ve looked up and been told this is a normal sound. I bought it at 160k and it hasn’t changed. It tends to become more noticeable when the oil breaks down. I change my oil between 3k-5k with Costco branded oil and Toyota filter. Haven’t had any issues once so ever. Every few oil changes I’ll run a lifter cleaner which I’ve been told is unnecessary, but zero problems otherwise.
Dose it go away when warm?
@@annettemendoza6335when it’s getting close to the oil change is when it gets a little bit more noticeable. When warm it’s barely noticeable.
Haha I always say my 4gen sounds like a train engine I guess even the new ones do too! Pretty normal as I’m running 220k miles same trans and engine
Lol
No issue there, sounds normal
19 making the same noise
Mine is not so much any more since i started changing oil every 5k miles. I do my own oil change now. Before i was going by what dealer was saying and change oil every 10k
Mine does it too, 160k km and running strong. Nearly every 4.0/1GR-FE will make this sound from what I've heard. I was worried about it too when I first noticed it this winter-that is until I read on all of the forums... Mine goes up and down with rpm, but then completely goes away when warmed up.
Did you find out wat it was?
Hey Andres, yeah i think so. I was going to dealer for oil change and they were doing it every 10k mikes. I didn’t like that so i decided to do my own oil change at 5k miles and i noticed the sounds is almost gone. Not sure why but whenever it got close to changing oil that’s when I would hear the noise more. so I think the oil was getting so dirty that somehow all that noise was coming because the oil was so dirty and black. I have also noticed from the factory settings it would always tell me to change oil at 5000 miles or so but dealer would say no there is no need you have to wait until 10,000. but ever since I am changing the oil at 5000 miles it’s been great! This motor is not quiet by any means however I can tell the difference. It sounds quieter it sound smoother so I’m happy that I made the call.
My 2016 4 runner does the same noise get quiter when warmed up
Maybe we should worry if the noise stops, jk ;) my 2017 makes the same noise at idle but goes away once the rpms go up.
I have a 2020 bought with 3900 miles and it now has 6200 miles now. Mine must be be broke then, I don't have that sound 🤔....🤪
I just purchased a 2021 4Runner same Shit! bugs the heck outta me! I rode in my friends 2017 4Runner super quiet when Idling. What the frick!
Congratulations!! That noise was bothering me too! Once you brake it in, it will get smoother and quieter. I would strongly suggest you don’t follow dealers oil change routine. I change mine every 5k mikes. Mine has been great so far.
Watch scotty kilmer 4runner video. He talked about this issue.
Thanks man! I will check it out for sure.
