I'm the great grandson of CW Stewart. I ran across your Southport series and you made a small mistake in your report on Moonshiners. The fact is George and Little ambushed the Stewart's at the top of a hill , and simply lost the gunfight. It's not right to take the life of another of course. There are other reasons why the ambush was set , personal reasons. A long story.
Excellent! Thanks!
Great history lesson proof to the evil that happen this land is not their these people were here before they got here
Booring. This woman tells more of her personal history than the hurricane.
Wonderful presentation. I work right across the street from the Frying Pan in New York City. Just had a beer there yesterday. It is truly a wonderful nautical and historical experience to be on that great ship. I like to think of it patrolling the waters of Frying Pan Shoals in the 1930 into the 60s with its light burning bright. Several years ago I was there with some friends for a photo shoot. Definitely worth a visit if you are in NYC.
We spent a week or two at Long Beach every summer. I have fond memories of hanging out at the arcade at the Yaupon Beach pier during my teens...1968-1972. Met some local boys who worked at the amusement park beside the arcade...Pat Parker & Buzz (Shermon?). Danced to live bands at the dance hall & in the gazebo. Sweet memories! Thanks for this walk down memory lane.
I wonder what will be done with the building.
Spent many, many quarters in the arcade at Long Beach early 80s
Lmao, shrimping in NC.. what shrimping..thanks to all the changes being made today, shrimping is about exstinct..very few doing it anymore..fuel prices high as hell and no money at all for the catch..2-3 dollars a pound at the fish house..stores and marinas sell the shit 8-14dollars a pound and not as fresh as coming off the boats..not worth going out and fish no more..
Awesome portrayal!
Sounds beautiful ❤
Like the Fighting Temptations movie❤❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent!!!!
I had the great pleasure of meeting crew member Paul wiezer what a wonderful gentleman he took with me to talk about the ship but more importantly we talked about life of the day thank Mr Paul and all the north Carolina crew and all the others who served
True to the white man's history, "We can't have that." Shameful America.
Awesome
I visited as a boy....I was giddy the moment I saw that majestic giant sitting there as we drove up. Couldn't get out of the car fast enough. Glad the good folks of NC decided to preserve this beautiful ship. I was with my parents so I behaved myself but if I went with my friends we probably would have ventured somewhere we weren't supposed to go and gotten into trouble. Wonderful video about the crew and their stories. Thanks for sharing! Thanks to Cindy for her passion and good works.
Thanks Shannon 👍🇺🇸
Nice presentation , very informative . Wish I was in town for it !!
Dad was on the North Carolina from her commission in April 1941. Sept 8th would have been dads 100th birthday ⚓️
She’s probably told that story so many times she doesn’t get emotional but I sure did. You know it’s a good story teller when you can see in your mind everything she is saying likes it’s a movie. So happy she lived to tell it.
She came on my 8th birthday, 1954. We survived the eye of this beast, and when the eye passed over, I asked Mom if I could go out to play and she answered "no, it`s coming back". And trust me, Mom knows best.....
This is so awesome. Thank you sharing with us.
Really good background music.
I spent years in the summer going to camp at Fort Caswell, and my uncle reworked the plumbing years before his death in 1980's for the Captain's quarters there. The big rocking chair porches and then church in the military practice circle. Went years to long beach, and learned to roller skate at Yaupon 6Skating Rink in the late 1950's early 1960's with Bobby Willis and my sister Janice Haire. There was a trampoline there that was on the ground and had a large dugout place underneath it (they wouldn't let me do it, because I was probably 4. Long Beach was a treasure. The wooded section was all wooded and no houses. I sure love Oak Island, or rather Long Beach. Thanks for sharing your memories. I'm 68 so those years being 4 and 5 at Long Beach are my first memories at the beach and also the memory of being coated with Sea and Ski suntan lotion, still wish I could get that, because it would create that memory even more vividly. There was a bakery after you got off the turning bridge going into Yaupon and a grocery store. One memory is that when we hit the bridge area going to Long Beach, you could smell the menhaden factory, and it didn't smell pleasant, but I knew we were in sight of the beach within minutes. Maybe it is where Fish Factory Road is now. Whew.......thanks for sharing your memories. Such wonderful memories shared here. Sharon Finch
I great grandfather Alfred Anderson and his brother William Andersen are buried there... They move here from Denmark around 1895..
Neat. I grew up in bethel Baptist. You are speaking of the one off Mount Misery Rd? Or shall I say is the original one the one near 87 reiglwood area IS the original ?
Nice history marker . My Grandfather lost his life shrimping out of Southport in 1946 .
Thank you!
My favorite area in Franklin Square was the old well water pump . Cold water out of the ground on a hot summer day .
Great presentation . Wish I could have seen it live . Had family work the boats on and off for decades .
A most remarkable memory. Thank you for sharing! 🌬💨🌊💦
Rest in peace "Pops!"
Interesting , I have over 100 relatives buried in that buriel ground .
This is excellent -- used to accompany dive students (PADI) on the Gill in the mid-70s...

Very interesting . I never knew anything about the CCC . Almost all of my families background involved the ocean and Cape Fear River . I did know Ivon Ludlum when I was a child . He lived on the corner of N. Lord St and W. West St. House was across the street and two houses down from my Grandparents next to the Pinner house . Good stuff here , thanks.
I will be showing this to my grandchildren
Splendid job!
What a fun project! Thanks for this great community program!
Very good. Explains much about blockade running during the War of 1861.
