Climbing the largest eucalypt in the world (by volume), in the Florentine Valley of Tasmania. Canopy scientists Prof. Steve Sillett and Dr. Bob van Pelt (and team, most of whom managed to avoid the camera!) are engaged in an ambitious, long term project to study how giant trees grow and change over time. Here, they were carefully preparing an exact 3D map of the entire canopy of this vast and b...

Starfoot Sampling

Removing sections of Starfoot, an 88.7m mountain ash that was burnt in the Feb 2009 bushfires near Kinglake. After each limb was removed, a cross-section of the timber was taken to allow examination of the cell formation. www.intotrees.com
I'll never not come here on these restless nights. Theres so much to like, but that music though... even the screaming from the device when he bombs out of the tree. I dunno, its weird to say but its 2:56 am where i am and this video is like a comfort video for me.
Epic.
How u do all that from one anchor point ?
Looks awesome tbh, i climb on a hitch climber drt and a roperunner srt and the hitch climber is an awesome but of kit but if im gonna switch to a mechanical for drt then id probably choose this
Awesome work guys, really useful information. Thanks for sharing and donating your time and effort for such a relevant resource.
BONGOS!!
Wow I'm amazed definitely getting one. Great freaking video guys
I'd love to see another video from this expedition, with a focus on the technical aspects of the climb/equipment etc.... that would be cool.
Great video.... I'd go up there, give me enough time and someone to brandish that crossbow for me! I don't think my BigShot would cope! :)
Tarzan!
I just bought spider jack has 10 year warranty on it and when I was changing crutch for right size for my rope sqrew needed tight up and when I was tightening up by finger its snapped so easy and broke I just paid for this $515 10 year warranty where can i get fixed please let me know 😢 this is so expensive but sqrew got snapped so easily please help
I watched to see people who use this in Kansas usa
Hello From India 🇮🇳♥
How to get this device?
Many of these trees succumbed to the disastrous 2019 bushfires.
Ok how do I learn how to climb trees like this?
Start with 10m versions of the same!
Do this in context working man (a lot of tools attached to your belt) not jumping from branch to branch like monkey.
Petzl tried but this is still better than the Eject.
I tried finding last year online but couldn't find anyone to sell them
This video was SO bad ass.........
Makes climbing looks very easy
One day ima climb this tree
Great video. Should use them for timber before they rot. I am sure the people that stop the logging are the reason the forest burned. They think a healthy forest is a over grown tinderbox.
So tall that makes other trees look like toys
Woow i love to climb trees
I dont get it? What is he doing?
Showing off the sj abilty, and his own too! Course having a nice large pruned open tree helps.
Is anybody still active with this channel?
You deserve the respect Richard now it would like you to test the zrunner
Sweet gear. Would be nice to have in my kit.
Okay I choose you to do the demonstration on the zrunner
Mine keeps slipping now after a couple eas
Joe is as great a teacher and bloke as he tree climber 🙌
How much capital investment does becoming an arborist require?
Stop the Philosophical Zombies depends on what level you go to. A basic setup can cost you from 500 to 1000 but I mean absolute basic employed with someone else. Also training gonna cost you a couple of thousand. Then if you wanna run your own tree crew it’s a whole other set of prices. You’ll feel like your bills are neverending, because they aren’t. Things break, you have to buy tools to maintain the other tools, it’s just an ENDLESS cycle of money going into it. Be prepared to be very very careful with your budget.

Is this thing rated for a pick off resque operation?
Hello guys I would love to join you guys I have my own climbing gear I'd probably want to use a dubble rope set up grate video
I climb on ddrt as well but climbing trees of this size should be done on srt. Way faster and less fatiguing. Also you’re going to need one hell of a long rope for ddrt lmao.
do you still use spiderjack or did you switch to something else?
will my lockjack cams work on the spider?
Getting mine right freakin now!!
Good video. Did anyone collect the trees seeds for future planting?
I grew up with my father who was a hard working old skool timber cutter and over the years I have been involved within the industry myself and by no meens a greenie, however I would without a doubt stand side by side the greenies to save such irreplaceable trees as these, I have worked in the timber industry in Tassie as a log truck driver with a truly professional logging company and was absolutely amazed at what Tassie had to offer, thank goodness these amazing giants were spared.I hope you are reading this my cuz Riss.
Sustainable logging is a must, we need wood and its a great resource to put to use instead of letting it rot in an aging tree. But especially because of that we need to protect these giants so our kids and their kids can appreciate their colossal size and age. Only then can nature be exploited and conserved at the same time.
Tazzy or Victoria?.
Yes
Does anyone know what make and model of rope he is climbing on?
I know you work for ART Joe, so you make it look good. I just can't get over the lever action. The pull down type devices like the Zigzag feel more natural to me. Spiderjack is definitely smooth though, and flows rope through effortlessly. Cool vid.
I finally figured it out, it is not the type of rope or mechanical verses manual, it is all in the music, yup I got to go get some of that conga music and then I turn into batman..... all kidding aside, you are awesome.
Dos this work with small hands? Lol, i am using que the Zigzag but the spider jack looks awesome.
WHATS ON YOUR FEET
This device rocks art makes some great products i used to climb with a lockjack and i loved that device and still do but the spiderjack 3 is just absolute perfection for double rope
