Solstice Ritual - In This Darkness Singing
In a world that is increasingly divided and polarized, the need to come together in meaningful ways grows ever greater. Throughout history, solstice has been a time to gather together in the face of darkness and uncertainty. Solstice means “sun stands still,” as at the darkest time of the year the pulse of life stops for a timeless moment, before the light can return and renew the energy of people and the Earth.
Traditional cultures around the world imagined that humans played a role in bringing the light back from the darkness. The human soul was once known as “the light found in the darkness.” The rebirth of the sun reflects a potential awakening of the heart and soul of each person. When the light of the soul grows within us, it also contributes light to the world.
In the midst of the anxieties, conflicts and tragedies affecting the world, it is the sense of timelessness and sacredness that we most need. In facing the darkness together we can find and touch the divine spark of life as each soul connects through prayer and song to the living earth and the Soul of the World.

Living Authentically in Troubled Times

The increasing sense of uncertainty that now plagues the world around us creates a greater sense of vulnerability and anxiety within us. When the world becomes flooded with conflicts and fear, a greater psychological understanding and a deeper sense of self is what we need to survive and grow. There is a core imagination and primary orientation to life that each soul carries from the beginning....
Living Myth Podcast 413 - From Polarization to Re-Creation
Переглядів 90014 днів тому
This episode of Living Myth begins with the word polarization being chosen as the dictionary word of the year and ironically being the one thing that both sides of the political spectrum agree upon. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines polarization as “a division into sharply distinct opposites in which opinions and no longer range along a continuum, but become concentrated at opposing extrem...
Living Myth Podcast 412 - Living in Two Worlds
Переглядів 1,2 тис.21 день тому
This episode of Living Myth begins with the recognition that, what the United Nations calls “the biggest election year ever recorded,” has left most countries on Earth more divided and less free. Any issue that arises quickly becomes another example of two opposing attitudes or conflicting views of life. As increased polarization fractures any sense of civil society, people come to believe that...
Arts and Practices: Antidotes to Overwhelm, Sources of Resiliency
Переглядів 2,7 тис.21 день тому
As the world becomes a more chaotic and conflicted place, turning to creative practices can help us find ways to settle and center and grow a greater sense of self and soul. Throughout the ages, meaningful practices have served as healing roads and primary ways to find psychological and spiritual growth as well as moments of wholeness and inner unity. Through a meaningful practice we can gain a...
Living Myth Podcast 411 - The Necessity of Gratitude
Переглядів 2,7 тис.Місяць тому
Michael Meade answers questions about the sources and meanings of grace and gratitude. Gratitude used to be called the “parent of all virtues”, and its presence indicates the natural nobility of the human soul. We are most human and most alive when we allow ourselves to be touched by the beauty of the world and when we feel genuine gratitude for the life we have been given, no matter how hard o...
Living Myth Podcast Episode 410 - On Hope and Despair
Переглядів 970Місяць тому
This episode begins with the old idea that emotions travel in pairs. Sorrow tends to travel with joy, so that if we allow sorrow to penetrate us, it will pull us to a deep level of our soul where joy can provide a renewal of spirit that lifts us back up. On the other hand, when we deny the grief and sorrows that enter our lives, we wind up losing our capacity for joy. Another natural pairing of...
Connecting to Our Deep Self
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Місяць тому
The fragmentation and polarization that trouble the outside world is also felt deeply within us. Since the world will not settle soon, the unity and wholeness so sorely missing in the outer world must be found within us as well. As things fall apart the “knowing self” within moves closer to the surface, seeking to become more conscious to us. In order to avoid overwhelm and find meaningful life...
Living Myth Podcast 409 - The Law of the Fish vs. The Rule of Law
Переглядів 882Місяць тому
On this episode of Living Myth, Michael Meade turns to an ancient myth from India to show how elections can have such dire consequences that the rule of law becomes replaced with the “law of the fishes.” In the great oceans the big fish endlessly devour the little fish and the same drama is often replicated in the realm of culture, where every pond has its big fish and the small fry continually...
Living Myth Podcast 408 - To Not Be Lost
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Місяць тому
It is our mutual fate to live in a time of such disorientation and upheaval that the institutions we hoped would protect us cannot keep up with the flood of changes pouring through both nature and human culture. It makes sense that we could feel lost when the present is full of chaos and fear, while the future looks increasingly uncertain. In the long run, we are not simply in a battle between ...
Change the Soul, Change the World
Переглядів 1,7 тис.Місяць тому
In the midst of crises, the soul tries to become conscious. If we awaken to our own calling, face our own fears and find our own destinies, then we become able to help change the outer world. There's an old idea that said humans are the make weights in the scales of time. Humans are but a speck in the universe on one hand, but because the soul is secretly connected all the way back to the origi...

This episode of Living Myth addresses the issue of the “strongman” in politics and the way it exemplifies and contributes to a loss of authenticity, a lack of integrity and a loss of soul in modern cultures. “As a storyteller and someone who studies mythology, I carry stories around, maybe in the same way that someone might carry food or medicine or equipment in a backpack in case a need arises...

The ever green Christmas tree of life. Is the tree that holds all the 9 realms. The 7 planets plus the sun and the moon. Odin is prolly there at the north pole right now laughing like a bowl full of jelly himself. The little bear or little dipper and the big bear circle him. His eight legs of this horrible hobby horse sleipner guide him through the night sky today.
Such an important teaching for these times. Thank you Michael. Invaluable ❤

Michael, thank you for the years blessings you bestowed, nothing else to give you, than Irish humor of long ago'ed. Hope it gives you a laugh, long may you go. Happy Christmas, to a merry goo' year we row.................. Johnny Murphy died last nite, Ed. What happened him, boay. Coming inta me house like ..... slipped on the kids skate, head through the porch window. Ahh, that's an awful way to die. Na, that didn't kill him a’tall. Jumped up, fell inta me casa, como su casa. Staggered, tore all the photo off me wall. Clattered his way ta da kitchen, bumped against me fridge, an all, 6 carving knives fell. BAM man, right inta the chest, like it was fookin' hell. Jaysus, that's a terrible way ta die. Na, warming up, was our boay Johnny. Wandered, dazed and confused, inta me sitting room, me oldest on shrooms. Fell inta the fire, howled like a banshee, when he got spired. From all this jumpin' sky higher, Jordan like, spiked his head, on the chandelier……….fuckin nikes!………..and fell down dead! Yikes! Oh my god, that was a horrible way ta die. Na, that didn't kill him a’tall, Ed. Fell up the stairs (can ya believe tha boay - up the bloody stairs). Destroyed me banister, the hotpress. Scalded hands, crying for his mommy, his pance, he wet, me kids were immediate fans, when they heard that bit. Tears tearin’ down his face like rain, blood-head punctured and spiked in vain, 6 carving knives in da chest, like some sort of beau geste. Cork’s Hollybough, Irelands Own monk on fire, freaky it was, like some sort a national sacrifice at our behest. Fell out me bedroom window, curtin's cindered, onto the concrete slabs below, like a godforsaken skinhead tindered, ta the audience shoutin’ fook me, Thoreau. Jaysus Tommy, that's a terrible way ta die. Na, that didn't kill him a’tall. Fook sake, Tommy, what the hell killed him, boay! Ah, I had ta shoot him, Ed. He was wrecking me house.
