My father, his mother's side, goes back to Mrs. Curtis, Washington's wife. She had children before her marriage to Washington. Lee was her great grandson. My grandmother carried this name. That is my Irish side.

Wonderful Tea Table, Susan. I agree that voting is a real privilege which we must not take for granted! We have so much to be thankful for here in America. Thank you for your interesting stories about the Swiss chalet in the mountains. Those were beautiful memories. Speaking of memories, my father passed away in September and his memorial was on October 27th, a few weeks ago now. It was Reformation Sunday and meant so much to me as I was raised in the Lutheran church. I treasure my memories of my faithful and generous father, Torval, a proud Norwegian who always encouraged my sister and I in our music. ❤

Your discription of my mother's trauma in the war was quite the way it was. Würzburg was destroyed 1948 as the war was already ending. My mother was 23. After the distruction of Würzburg my mother, who's violin was destroyed, worked as a nurse, though she was not an educated nurse, at a hospital. Many wounded soldiers died in her arms. Later she was given a violin and joined the gypsies. Her brother twice escaped the Russian concentration camps. My grandparents left Eastern Germany, because my grandfather refused to become a communist, in order to keep his position. They then lived in one room till 1958. My grandfather was a 75% war invalid from World War I.

Luther (after 1517) took out 7 books of the established Bible (since 395 AD) and corrupted other passages he didn't like. He left the Church and spread heresy and apostasy so why would you talk about him on All Saints day. He is a heretic probably burning in hell. I know we don't like talking about hell nowadays, but it is a reality.😢 I hope he repented before the moment he died.

When I lived and did ministry in Russia in the mid-90s, I spoke to many groups of young people and others about various American holidays. Halloween was, of course, of great interest to russians. I was able to explain the reason we have all hallows evening was because of the remembrance of the Christian saints who have gone before us in death to Heaven. As a matter of fact, every single major American holiday is rooted in Christianity. It was a great method for evangelism in a country that, at the time, allowed for free discussion of religion and politics, following the breakup of the Soviet Union. My understanding from Russian friends is that it's not quite so open today. Interestingly, America in many respects is absolutely more totalitarian than Russia now. So we ask God to bless America!
