Just an old gearhead sharing content and the struggles of trying to make a living wrenching on things. Mostly self taught, my experience comes from necessity, having to repair my own vehicles over the many years. I also always had a passion for figuring out how to get things running again. Nowadays a person can simply just look on the internet to find all the info about a repair or how to get something running, but I never had that convenience, I just had to figure it out on my own. Also my late father was a big influence, of course I didn't realize that until later in life, he always wrenched on his own bikes, and even painted them his self. He rode Harley's and was in a few clubs, so there were always bikers around when I was a kid. Motorcycles are my passion with Muscle Cars being a quick second, but I love any performance oriented.

Maybe it’s due to the garage or camera mic, but this Vz800 has a higher pitch, “panther-like” growl to it that mine does not. Although while idling and with the lower pitches, they sound similar. I’d like to know the details on this bikes exhaust. Im perfectly happy with the way my bike sounds with it’s Vance & Hines pipes, mostly I’m just curious.
@gutterbee unfortunately I wish I would have done a better video and had more info on this bike. I originally just did a quick little video because I didn't really think many people would even care, ends up being one of my most viewed video with so much response. I still get several messages per day about this bike and people wanting theirs to run like it. Unfortunately I don't have any details on the exhaust, but the bike actually sounded so much better in person. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲
did you just buy it??
@alexvasquez9313 that was a customer's bike I worked on a couple years ago. It had been sitting for years so I rebuilt the carbs and some other items as well. I actually have one in the shop right now that is identical. There are some videos of them here on my channel. Thanks for watching 🐉
@@thedragon2299 ah i see. i was trying ti buy this EXACT bike on craigslist but it sold and thought maybe it was the one. was gonna try and buy it lol thanks.
Yup, milky oil is always antifreeze leaking into the oil. Excellent bug chasing by you. Well done.
@mw6563 thanks, first time I came across this on one of these, but judging by all the comments it occurs more than I thought. Thanks for watching 🐲
I've nearly perfected the single carb conversion! It would be awesome on this bike!
When putting the new tensioner in, as it’s tightened it moves it far away from top dead center. Does it matter if the exhaust or intake side is installed first?
@jcar716 Intake side first, definitely watch the video again thoroughly because I explain how I did it. It doesn't matter if everything moves together but if after you install the tensioner the timing marks are off, then timing is off. Make sure you are using a tensioner that is retracted until it's all the way in, then release.
got an 04 sat 10+yrs...cleaned carb, cleaned tank, replaced petcock, new spark plug...it's barely runs on full choke, still won't really take fuel...im about to take carb apart again
@sim7409 yeah, sounds like you either didn't get the idle jet cleaned or the idle passage way in the carb body, it's important you spray carb cleaner in the passage ways to ensure it comes out the other end, same thing with all the jets. Also alot of choke passages in the bowl get clogged real bad and needs special time and attention. I've been there many times before, that's how I know. I would try everything to avoid taking the carb off again, but ultimately that's usually what it was. Good luck. Thanks for watching 🐉
@sim7409 also don't forget about the idle mixture screw and the passage way to it. Sometimes the idle mixture screw is still capped off from factory and must be removed.
@@thedragon2299 thnx yea i had it completely apart..idle screw also..other than orange stains from old gas it didn't look that bad but ima do it again see what haps
@sim7409 it won't hurt nothing just to be sure, also check engine compression as a precaution 🐲

Good job, I did similar to a 1982 and a 1980 GL1100. after basic cleaning, carburetor and gas tank cleaning they run quite good. The GLs have a lot better engine design than the cb750s

The motorcycle I was waiting for, I hope it all goes well. I bought my 84 700s with 55 thousand on the clock, I've never even heard it run yet. Compression is a little low, but it's been sitting for 4 years. That Honda looks in way better shape than mine. Thanks for the update.

@UriahPrice-de9qf Ahh...patience patience, you have to wait for the next video. Actually, as you may know this is my business, I didn't have this bike scheduled for repairs yet, just diagnostics. When you start it make sure you put the cover on the air filter. Believe it or not that kept my neighbors from starting.
I have to say, I've got the same 2002 and red but it has never broke down, left me stranded or hauled. Routine maintenance is all it's ever had. I bought it new and will never do away with it. I've been riding for 44 years and don't plan on ever stopping. Even when I have a broke ankle I still rode 😂. Good looking one you got
Modern equivalent would be the Z900RS. In terms of weight and performance, it's no comparison. But the ZL sure is an aesthetically beautiful machine in its own right.
@exothermal.sprocket what do you mean no comparison 🙃The ZL900 Eliminator has the GPZ900R engine, it produces 105 horsepower, the Z900RS has 95 Horsepower. I've rode both bikes alot, love them both and there isn't much difference in performance, only in riding position. Have you even rode both of these bikes yourself? ua-cam.com/video/o7sWiJtkb5g/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@thedragon2299 I've owned the Z900 which is the better tuned version of the 948cc engine, and weighed 468 pounds. Tuned it made 125 hp at the wheel and was smooth as butter. I know the RS is retuned and down about 12 to 15 hp on the Z900. Just in sheer weight and power, brakes, fuel injection, handing poise, the new machines are better. I went looking for the ZL at a whim due to reminiscing about bikes that existed when I was a kid.
Rings do have a gap for air to seep past
@user-vt3on9ck6f rings have an end gap for expansion, not to let air seep past. If they didn't have a gap, they would expand beyond bore size and become tight in the cylinder, causing catastrophic engine failure. You need to stop listening to the internet seriously. In this video, it would be referring to air leaking between the rings and cylinder, which is caused by worn out of shape rings. Thanks for watching 🐉
Sounds like the carbs are out of sync. I Have an 86 that i bought new. Still have it. At one point i kept it in the house for 2-3 years no fuel. When i decided to run it again it was rough and needed choke. It was the diaphragms that stiffened, which at the time i didn't know. After about 2 years of running it very little, the diaphragms loosened up and ran fine. To Sync these carbs you need a vacuum gauge setup that gauges all 4 carbs, 1 is your base which you adjust the others to. The engine will sound like this one when 1 or more carbs are out of sync with others making it run on the richer carbs and the other carbs lagging, which makes it smoke because the choke is choking the rich carbs and the lean carbs. This is what it sounds like to me. I hope this helps.
@ConsortiumBlaster hey thanks appreciate the help. You have learned a couple things over the years I see. I actually own a Vintage Motorcycles Restoration shop, I'm doing this stuff everyday and I do infact have several sync gauges, however this was alittle more than out if sync, this customer had just got screwed bad at another shop for $3500. The motor and carbs were supposedly rebuilt, but what I found would say otherwise, oh they did some work alright but it was bad workmanship. In this video, one cylinder didn't even have any compression and the carbs were actually overflowing. You will see the conclusion, or at least more on this bike coming soon. After I tore the engine down and found the shotty work, the customer decided not to put another $3500 dollars into it, and picked up the bike, after a week of thinking, he called me back and set up an appointment to bring it back for a proper rebuild. It should be here in a couple weeks or less. So check back for those videos coming soon. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲!
