Just an old gearhead sharing content and the struggles of trying to make a living wrenching on things. Mostly self taught, my experience comes from necessity, having to repair my own vehicles over the many years. I also always had a passion for figuring out how to get things running again. Nowadays a person can simply just look on the internet to find all the info about a repair or how to get something running, but I never had that convenience, I just had to figure it out on my own. Also my late father was a big influence, of course I didn't realize that until later in life, he always wrenched on his own bikes, and even painted them his self. He rode Harley's and was in a few clubs, so there were always bikers around when I was a kid. Motorcycles are my passion with Muscle Cars being a quick second, but I love any performance oriented.

What was the valve clearance on that motor? I can only find info on early 80s.

Beautiful!🐲
Love itI I picked one 1985 up for $400 November 2023 and worked on it last winter, fluids, clutch, carb cleaned etc. It was barn kept for 35 years. the owner met a girl and married her a year after he got the bike and then had to park it. It has 2300 miles on it...I LOVE this bike. It runs like a top.
@calebnason9617 That's awesome! Years ago I used to buy these Nighthawk for $500 or less not running sitting in some family man's garage for 5-10 years. Quick clean of the carbs, little detailing and sell them couple days later for $2200-$2500. That when I fell in love with them! Got this one for $200 basically towardswork on his other bike. These are some of my favorite all time bikes! Pretty quick and handle awesome! Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲

@@thedragon2299 of course! Love the content. Mine sat for 35 years! I'm currently making a UA-cam video of the rehab and detailing of it. I'll share it with you when it's done.
@calebnason9617 That's sounds good, look forward to it. I have a small one man vintage motorcycles shop, here's my Facebook for additional content like this as well: facebook.com/share/19eCquxAdj/
What a beauty
It's a labor of love!🐲
🖤
Hey, I'm doing a similar job on my topper, you said you got your parts from jims forever? Would you happen to have a phone number or link so I can get some parts?
@MVRGARAGE maps.app.goo.gl/3b2SSVb6zruCMbJK7 ask for Matt. Good luck on your project.
Thank you
@MVRGARAGE just don't buy them all, leave some for us🤣 No problem.
Tough day at the office today boys😂. First Ride feels so good. Still have to break in engine and button it up !
Such a great feeling to finally ride it after so long. Life just gets in the way sometimes 😅
Don’t think that’s a 330. At most a 295. Stock cylinder. If it was a 310 or bigger it would be a aftermarket cylinder.
Can't get enough Vintage!🐲
Should be done the 75' SS250 by spring, check back for reveal!🐲
It never gets old opening the NOS parts!
i have the same problem with my car. how did you get to aline all marks on the timing chain? mine its way off from one to the others... chain came off from both camshaft. thanks man.
Like I said in the video, turn crank to OT at the pointer, then make sure your intake cam is lined up,( if not you have to turn it until it is lined up with marks) then put your chain(counter clockwise) around intake cam phaser, then make sure exhaust cam is lined up with marks, and then wrap chain around exhaust cam phaser. If all is lined up correctly then you can install the chain tensioner. Roll the engine over by hand to make sure all the lines stay lined you when you bring it back on TDC. If this doesn't make sense to you, than it's a good idea to get help from someone who knows what they are doing because if you do it wrong, it will destroy your engine. Good luck.
Just wondering....did you check the cylinders for rust before cranking the engine?
@Tracer414 yes, I always start with checking them and soaking them with 2 stroke oil or most often Marvel Mystery oil, change the oil as well before starting. This is pretty much what I do on a daily basis here at Dragon Worx Vintage Motorcycles. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲 facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057489818717&mibextid=ZbWKwL
Sorry what jets sizes and needle position use with stock exhaust and only air box mod?
@eladiopena3827 150 main 25 pilot, groove 3 from the top. It made a world of difference and no hesitation in any range. But I also went down one tooth in the front which really wakes these bikes up on bottom end.
no step ladders in garages are safe from being used as a swingarms
Awesome!🐲
It could have a big center pin mk11 crank that would be worth a lot😮
@bradwilliams5242 possible, the owner said its a 1977 engine that he bought used and didn't have much info on it. Unfortunately when he confronted the guy who did this shotty work with the issues we found he talked him in to taking it back to that shop, so he picked it back up yesterday. Good luck to him...
No turbo and little carbs what shame
@bradwilliams5242 I know ain't it a shame. The guy was trying to get there, working man doing what he could afford to do little at a time. Then took it to the wrong shop and they totally Fukked it up for him. He just had the engine built by them. Sad part is he's taking it back to them to "make it right" because after all the money he just spent at thier shop, he can't afford for me to rebuild it right for him.

@@thedragon2299 I am real old and so is my big block turbo kz900 / 1327 it will hang with my busa for a couple of gears but that is about it
@@bradwilliams5242 right on, sounds like a wicked ride!
Wow, man. Even Stevie Wonder can see there is a major issue there. Starting it and even turning it over is causing more damage. Pull the heads off and actually look and measure everything and then pinpoint the problem. I used to build Z900s and 1000s engines daily in the 70s and 80s, mostly drag racing type. I've never seen this before, but could sort it in a few hours. Don't let this old school unit suffer from fools.
@sidneystead7270 No shit man, of course its obvious at this point, but I was doing what my customer paid me to do, which was to just record the evidence of my findings. Did you pay attention to the story?
@@sidneystead7270 The guy who built it told my customer to ignore the sound and ride it another 500 miles before taking it back for adjustment.
@@sidneystead7270 ua-cam.com/video/Ry6JTrHjXaU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
That head is toast, I wonder if those caps are from a different head?
@blueblood76 I believe the cam bushings were wrong or the valves were way over tight originally.
I'm sure he's sending it back because of the amount of money he's already committed to the bike with the other guy. However, you have to judge future performance based on past work. I think he's going to waste a whole lot of time and money with that guy. Sometimes you just have to swallow hard and eat the money you've already sunk into it and start spending good money for good work. I'm guessing you'll see that guy again eventually.
@philmcqueen4659 exactly. And there were many other things I found wrong with the bike, it was shotty workmanship. This fellow didn't have the money to pay me to do it again, and the other guy says he will make it right, but in the same breath says it wasn't his fault. So the other shop is going to tell him it isn't their fault and try to charge him again. I agree we will most likely see him again.
Its idling a bit fast
I explained that in the video
That journal got HOT
This bike is going to be awesome! Hope to finish by spring riding season.
A shop just rebuilt this engine 50 miles ago🤔
I did a frame off restore about five years ago . Absolutely great bike one of my favorite bikes.
@gadget1473 I agree these bikes are some of my favorites as well, I have had many of them through the years, many of them I brought back from the dead, and I can almost always count on them coming to life easily and running great. Very capable bikes too, lots of power and excellent handling leading to an awesome ride. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲
Hello i have z1000 2015 mine has milky oil in these freeze days i started my bike in coolrant there was only water without antifreeze i run bike for max 10 min did not go anywhere then after 1 day when i checked oil it was full white like milky also when i try add water in coolrant it comes from engine down from where u change oil what can be damaged should i open engine ? What can u say from experience
@Kenzoo4 if your sure it froze, then something probably did crack, usually in the head. I'm not real familiar with the make up of that engine, so I'm not sure if it has freeze plugs in the head or not, but that's one of the first places I would look.
Awesome bike!
It was actually still running when dropped off.

Nice job on restoring that bike, I'm a little more fond of the 1984 , only because the smaller front wheel looks better, It's been said it wasn't great when cornering. any thoughts on that.
@jaxsonbrn I have a 84' and 85' here sitting next to each other and they both have 19" front wheels on them, so I'm not aware of a difference size wheel. These are some of my favorite bikes though. Just an all around great bike with the best of both worlds.
@@thedragon2299 yep, no difference in wheels between 84 and 85 (or 83)...only difference is the side graphics are different between those 2 years. 83 has unique kill switch and choke but same graphics as 84.... 85 shares kill switch and choke with 84 but has different side graphics.
@stevefletcher2334 thanks for responding with the info! Much appreciated! These bikes are just awesome if you ask me!
@@thedragon2299 couldn't agree more! I was in high school when these were new and I always wanted one...finally bought one 2 years ago. Great looking, good power, nice ride....and it's a Honda!
@stevefletcher2334 Congrats! for some reason when I started buying and selling bikes, I would always come across nighthawk 650's. Buy em cheap not running, clean carbs and they would always fire right up and run awesome. I fell in love with them. Great power with a good handling feel to them. I often find myself pushing them to their limits when I'm on one because they just beg me for it😅
I have an identical one same motor. Put Lucas oil treatment and 10W-30 in it and it will quiet right down. Mine sounds no where near that bad and when it did tick it was only the first 20 secs or so.
@willieb.hardigan5780 I'm still daily driving this thing. Some days it doesn't tick at all and some days it sounds like it's going to blow up, but most days it ticks some. I have tried everything, all grades/weights of oil, tried Lucas, marvel mystery oil, you name it, it doesn't change ticking at all. It has a mind of its own. I currently run Rotella 15-40 which seems to be the quietest. But I have to say, besides the ticking it runs like a top! Currently have 190,000 miles on it. I had big plans to do a bunch of work on it, but it's been so damn reliable I just keep running it as is for now.
Great Video!🐲

Thats a nice piece of history right there. I wish people valued things the way they used to but it would be nice if the companies made them to last longer than just the warranty.
@bobbygilljr4153 I totally agree. I don't know how many times a week I say, "they don't make em' like they use to". That's basically what I do here at Dragon Worx, I revive them and then keep em' on the road. Thanks for watching 🐲 👍

@ I don’t always comment, but I watch’em all. You are a great mechanic and your editing skills have definitely improved since the early days.
@BigBuckGetter Thanks again! Way back in the day, I didn't even edit videos. Once I started editing it opened a whole new world. I have been using a free editor forever, and now they keep limiting what features I can use. So hopefully soon, I'm going to get a quality editor app, and get some better cameras. Hopefully start drawing more viewers to my channel, that's also why I been pumping out more video and Shorts to get more attention, so don't mind me if you see repeat stuff or too many videos in a day. I will most likely start adding some different content as well to break it up abit. I would like to grow the channel more. Once again thanks for watching all through the years!
Love the 2 tone paint jobs from this era. Excellent job.
@philmcqueen4659 I totally agree about the paint jobs back then. Thanks, I really appreciate the positive feedback as well! Thanks for watching 🐲
I will have to look at mine (1977) that it won't stay running after about a min. too. Of course I found that from carb. to throat was not tight so that doesn't help, but still my instincts are telling me what you are showing. Thanks for video. My channel: Wildman RG3

I have a question for you I have everything reinstalled on my gsxr 750 but when I prime my fuel pump it sound like it isn’t priming properly almost as if there’s air in the system the only code that I see pop up is f1 what could this mean
@Maine.1500 yes itcould be airlock, meaning there is air in the system somewhere, but that is rare, but if you been working on it, then its possible. You may have to loosen a fitting near the injectors to let air out. Make sure you have gas in the tank.
@@Maine.1500 does the bike start at all?
@ could the throttle body not being fully seated cause something like this
The clicking I hear is coming from the throttle body and the fuel pump is even priming anymore could this be because of the tip sensor ?
