@@bigp3006 Prasutagus, Boudicca's husband made a deal with Rome to share his lands with Rome and his wife. Upon his death, the Romans renegged on the deal (women couldn't hold land. Makes you think the Icenii were more progressive). They flogged Boudicca and had her daughters gang raped. She united the tribes and attached Camulodonum (Colchester), Londinium (London) they burned it to the ground. So much so that there's an archaeological phenomenon underneath modern London called the Boudicca line, caused by all the burning. Any Romanised Britons were killed. The women had their breasts cut off and sewn to their mouths, symbolically sucking the teat of Rome (as Romulus and Remus did with the wolf). Lastly Verulanium (St. Albans). The Britons' tactics worked because they fought guerilla style. They also had fast chariots with the hardy local horses. The main part of the Roman army was in North Wales, sorting out the druids. So, Gaius Paulinus Suetonius marched his men to a place outside St Albans, with a forest/hill to their back, so they couldn't be out flanked. Numbers vary, but the odds were between 4-1 and 6-1 in favour of the Britons. However, the Romans were better trained and equipped. The British chariots would charge, the Romans would open their lines and close again, easily dispatching the charioteers. The Britons had no armour, only woad, massive swords that made you think they're over compensating, and long moustaches that wouldn't look out of place in a gay bikers' bar (most Europeans had full beards, Britons has moustaches). It's said that once a Roman had served his rotation at the front, he could sit at the back and eat an apple to recover. The Britons were disorganised. The Romans pushed forward. The Britons' carriages with family and baggage blocked their exit. All were slain. Boudicca poisoned herself. Then Briton was a colony for another 350 years. On a happy note, the Britons were such a pain in Rome's butt that they had to spend 4x the soldiers to keep everyone in line compared to a similarly sized piece of land.
