I honestly would have liked to see Ilya and Link become romantically entangled in twilight princess. That game really was so much more fluid than any other offering in the Legend of Zelda universe. It was realistic and the interpersonal relationships in the game felt much more genuine than in TOTK and its prequel. I really enjoy both of those games by the way, but to put it simply neither felt like they fit in the legacy of the story and the character development seemed cartoony and a little superficial to appease the shipping die hards. Twilight princess in my opinion is probably had the best recipe for what the story is propagated as in game and by Nintendo. There is a scene early on in Ordon Village where Ilya is scolding link for being too rough on Epona and despite the lack of dialogue and brevity, something about the interaction really stood out and I felt that the two of them shared a deeper connection than I have seen link engage with in any other Zelda entry. I don’t think the developers have lost their way with the series but I do think the evolution of the original Zelda recipe is deviating in a way that replaces quality with quantity. Just my personal take

some other little things: in gerudo town in totk link can tell the teacher he has indeed found true love. link looks like hes holding back tears when you complete the dragons tears side quest. sonia and rauru seem sorta of teasing wehn zelda talks about link, like parents who know their daughter has a crush on him this confirms nothing but zelda telepathically talks to link at the beginning of botw?! link smiles at zelda out of frame during the final cutscene while shes talking (you have to use glitches or mods to see it but he does!) despite his arm being completly destroyed, he still jumps and reaches to catch Zelda when she falls. Kass when you complete his quests says that his teacher liked zelda, but "the princess only every had eyes for her appointed knight" the final scene in totk looks like a kiss setup. that doesnt technically prove anything but it rlly does lol

whats also beautiful, i think, at the beginning of their relationship, both of them were under the constant pressure from the people around them since they are chosen to do this heavy responsibility since they were kids. After the calamity, in a way they are lightened some of that burdened (link got more expressive and open with his personality since nobody really remembers him except for a few people and he doesn't really remember everyone, while zelda accepted she is already fine the way she is after defeating ganon) and in the ending scene of the special ending where they got close together, they didn't have to think their status anymore, they are just link and zelda and they are friends, best friends even, and they were now have the freedom to grow into something more. in my theory, they did grow into something more than friendship since they had 5 years (at best guess) to get to know each other again, without any statuses barring between them anymore. hope this all made sense, english is not my mother tongue haha

Zelda ruined LinkxMipha by making Link her personal knight (in the Champion's Ballad DLC). That's all the proof I needed as it meant Zelda wanted him for herself.

A while ago i commented on a Zelink video saying that Zelda truly loves link because she can only access her power when link is in danger and needs her to save him. We see evidence of this in BotW and AOC. This was my main theory that backs up the fact of their love. This video is the first time ive seen another video that sort of backs up my theory. This video (especially at 10:12) really backs this up, and shows their true love for each other. There’s another example of this in Age Of Calamity (! Minor AOC spoiler !) when Astor summons the Blights and link goes to fight them. When Zelda sees link almost about to get clapped she runs and kills the blights. That shows that Zelda really cares for link and they need to live on a farm together with their baby guardian!!!!!

10:13 want to add something that I never saw getting the attention it deserves. During the memory that ends with Link having to eat a frog, it's underlined that our Princessis is doing archeology not only out of frustration for her powers but because she genuinely enjoys it. She's directly descendant from the local omnipotent and has these dormant powers, but *she's a researcher forced to think like a nun* . This is crucial, a researcher needs to see things with its very own eyes while religious figures like these literally live out of faith. Also, those powers have to be awakened because the Kingdom she'll have to inherit will blow up in the sky otherwise. Catastrophic, but as it is it's only external pressure, it does not belong to her truly. With this setup the bond with Link resolves two problems: - learning to both trust someone else, her knight in -shiningarm- hylian tunic, the friends she made along the way, and even more importantly her own powers stemming from faith in the Goddess Hylia and her own confidence of holding back Mr. Suavidad for this hundredth of years, she wasn't allowed to even sleep, had power allowance similar to Captain Britain(my guess) and even one faltering meant Hyrule blowing up in dark red smoke; - she had motivation that were her own only to succeed in the above, the Kingdom was finally home of people she cared about and she was motivated to have it in one place for at least those people if for herself was out of question. She trusted her knight in hylian tunic to break the 'I can't have my cake and eat it' mandatory consequence and incidentally save her. This might need re[finement/phrasing] because I always lose my point whenever I start talking, but thought about it from the first time I saw it. Cannot be sure if I'm the only one who noticed, because to put it brutally this boat just a replaces another, meaning that this is not my fandom of reference and am not well informed about it, nor particularly caring. Simply wanted to point out a detail.

In my opinion, the fact that Zelda refers to her home as *OURS* in the Japanese version is enough proof. I mean, it is a small cozy house with a single bed with one pillow, and I bet Zelda won't let Link sleep on the floor. I bet they snuggle up together in bed. I honestly *HATE* how Nintendo is afraid of giving us any vital change in their characters. I mean, why even give Mario and Link their respective princesses if they are always *just friends*.

the fact that in the botw symbol that there is a silent princess and that zelda is a princes and link is silent (the silent princess in botw logo is next to the z on zelda)

I think Zelda and Link not being super open with their relationship really makes sense with both of their personalities, *especially* Link. He is so reserved.

for Zelda's reasons in totk it really makes no sense because currently you gave two elements and these two are the fact that she transforms into a dragon to heal the master sword but you emphasized that it was for link and that it was an act of love but more reasonably it was obvious that it was for the kingdom and in her case to prove her worth because she had failed for a long time to save Hyrule so she did it to help link in the interest of the kingdom and then you tell us the “I’m Home” that she says at the end of the game but there are several reasons that she pronounces these words as the most logical and sensible that she feels that “home” for her, these Hyrule which is her kingdom and since it has been a long time since she returned to the surface, it moved her and provoked these feelings.

for all you kids saying that when zelda said "i'm home" is only sum u say to ur family in japanese, zelda is clearly designed off medieval europe. just look at the castle for one second. it is very european made by japan, japanese language doesnt matter here.

Thank you for this video. Their love story is unique and stands out. Technical note: Demon King was trapped by Raru for way, way longer than 10,000 years. It could have been 100k years or longer. Gloom seeped out of him and inspissated to Malice which built over time to from each consecutive Calamity. There was 10,000 years between the last Great Calamity and BOTW, but its stated unequivocally by Impa in TOTK that there were multiple calamities. Perhaps then it is fitting that the Hero who fights the Final Calamity and ultimately slays the Demon King is the greatest hero. Not only does he beat evil, but he wins Zelda's heart. I love it!

Another way to prove it in totk is that in Zelda diary she says that links stayed with her all the time when they were across hyrule and then when you finish rebuiling the village attacked by the pirates one guy tells you that zelda often visited that village and the lovers lake, and if link stayed with her all the time like she says en her diary then they both together used to go to that lake, there is a lot more evidences in this case but i only wanted to remark this one

The japanese version of the mission logs is essentially Link's journal, documenting his journey and even writing hilarious bits in there showing his personality. We were robbed of that in the english version.
