Just witnessed Joanna Mason giving debutante and certain winner Miss Yorkshire 16/1 the worst ride ever to finish a flying 2nd. If she doesn´t get a suspension for that the useless fuc king c unt!!!!!! THe shoudl NEVER ride for connections EVER again. I feel for Gemma Tutty and Owners, but it´s their own fault using a CRAP AMATEUR JOCKEY like the Moronic Joanna MAson!!!
I grew up watching Willie v Lester, Eddery, Cauthen et al. So underrated. He never stopped riding and I won a right few quid, not just on his winners, but straight forecasts as Willie would ride out for second. Legend.
Gentleman Willie
Pinker's Pond was a particular favourite of mine, and although he only won the one race in 1962, Willie was aboard Pinker's Pond in three of the nine races he contested that season.
Red rum in different colours..
When chasing was chasing…
He says about strong jockeys, but willie was tough Himself . His relentless style , used a lot of energy for sure
Think in the very early 90s. Carson rode the card at Catterick.. It was either 6 out of 6 of 6 out of 7.my memory fails me on the winners but I remember.
He always had a brain, and had to worknto develop style
I vividly remember when Willie had a terrible fall from his mount Silken Knot in the Yorkshire Oaks at York's Ebor meeting in 1982 the talented filly took a false step and came down tragically she was fatally injured and had to be destroyed Willie suffered very serious injuries and was taken to (what was then known as...) York District Hospital where I believed he stayed for some considerable time. Thankfully the great Scot improved and was able to move to his home.
never knew when he was beaten, total class and one of the all time greats
Met him on a plane going from Ireland to England years ago or vise versa can't remember now it was years ago got many wins from him such a lovely man always pleasant to talk to
one of the greats .
What a guy he was my grans favourite any horse under 8 stone we used to lump on always won
Chatted to him on our own for about 15 minutes, such a delightful human being.
Great friend of cheat Graham Bradley
Oh shut up
So he was a ' great friend of cheat Graham Bradley '......and? You didn't finish your sentence.
Graham is a super guy, you'd never meet another like him, and he could tide, just not well enough, lol, but he won a few big races.
Always humble
Well done Conor Beasley for NOT wanting to win on Atomise at AYR today... You are a FRAUD and should be suspended!!!!!
A very good family. Tim is always a trainer to follow on Yorkshire tracks
Zoe’s ex racer London!!!!!!
Didn't Lester piggott win on red rum ..as a 2 year old
My horse
Ridden by Lester Piggott,Basil.
Great to see this footage of my all-time favourite horse for the first time. Rummy would only be a six year-old here.
I wonder who owned him at that time because they’re not the colours that won his Grand Nationals for Noel le Mare in 1973, 1974 and 1977.
Was it Mrs.Bretherton?
or Brotherton?
@@christinenolan4594I cannot find any owner’s name before Noel Le Mare bought him as an 7 year old in 1972. Red Rum was bred by Martyn McEnery in Ireland. He himself named him as Red Rum by taking the last three letters of his sire Quorum and his dam Mared. His first race was as a 2 year old in a 5f sprint in which he dead heated. Ironically that race was at Aintree. I can only assume that as Mr McEnery named him, then he owned him until he was sold to Mr Le Mare.
Lurline Brotherton sent Red to Doncaster sales in 1972,I believe.
@@christinenolan4594 well researched Christine! Yes, Lurline Brotherton was the owner of Red Rum before Noel Le Mare bought him in 1972. She sent him to the sales because of the ever increasing vet’s bills for treatment of Red Rum’s pedalostitis. Interestingly, Mrs Brotherton had won the Grand National with Freebooter in 1950.
this is great to see thanks for posting
According to Wikipedia Red Rum was passed from training yard to training yard before Southport car dealer Ginger McCain bought him for his client Noel le Mare. Any idea who trained the horse before Ginger McCain and how much he bought him for?
He started with Tim Molony, and then Bobby Renton (I think), so he wasn't yet running in the famous Noel LeMare colours here.
Lester piggott won on him as a 2year old
Great Memories, but the course looks like a point to point compaired to Todays courses tho.
Wonderful to see Rummy again , safe to say his Grand National record will never be bettered , simply a marvellous steeplechaser .
also because its no longer the grand national we knew 😢😢 even shortening the run to the first this year. one day it will be a 5 furlong sprint with no fences 😆😆
@@alanrossreviewskilled it when they filled the drop at bechers. All the horses then go down the inside. Stupid weak people running this sport now, haven’t got a clue
what was the name of this race red rum won and now is the race called
Charles Vickery Memorial Handicap Chase.
Red Rum wearing blinkers 👀
Thank you so much for finding this.marvelous to to see rummy racing apart from the nationals.l didnt think this footage still existed. Cheers once more.
I believe most of the ITV 7 from that era exists, it's the actual World of Sport programmes that have been largely wiped.
Nice to look back at memorable races at Catterick, but I would have expected some footage about God's Solution as well....
www.google.com/search?q=gods+solution+horse&rlz=1CAMJNG_enGB1100&oq=gods+solution+horse+&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUyBggAEEUYOdIBCDY0NjZqMGo0qAIAsAIA&sourceid=chrome&i
Red Rum was a very modest chaser.....until Ginger McCain got hold of him in 1972. For example, he was allotted bottom weight in the long handicap for the 1972 Scottish National of all entries. He then improved a significant amount for his 1973 National win - stones
Remember, he was coming into his prime as an eight year old when Ginger ran him in his first National. At nine he was at his absolute peak; giving a pound and a beating to L'Escargot; one of only five horses since Arkle to have won more than one Cheltenham Gold Cup (and that includes Galopin Des Champs, who has just done it).
Great to see him again.
Another track that used to have a Water Jump
Red Rum's first race was a 5f sprint, where I believe he dead-heated for 1st.
The sprint for 2 year olds at Aintree. Mother was Quorum a sprinter, sire was a sprinter. Red Rum basically was bred to win the Aintree 2 year old race. Lester called him a freak
....yep...at the 1967 Grand National meeting...
@@chatham43 that was what he was bred for, the opening 2 year old was worth money.
Once ridden by Lester Piggott
@@stephenholmes1036 yes good memory.

Gwan the wack kid
the commentary is totally out of sync with the images!!! ;' jumping the fourth...' - not a hurdle in sight!
Starting on the 4th jump doesnt make it a "FULL" race as mentioned in your title
the starts at the fourth fence, but they are actually jumping the first. or maybe the second . Somehow lost the first par t of the commentary, which becomes clear when the commentator says 'and he wins' ....when they are still a couple of fences out!
the COMMENTARY starts at the fourth fence....
