I don't think that it was a glow plug problem, I got the exact same problem starting my 300D after she sat 10+ years in a barn, however my glow plugs were working. The problem comes from the fact that the fuel lines coming from the pump and going to the injectors get filled with air as the time passes and air gets in the fuel system. You just have to tri to turn the engine on for a long time so that the air get's out of the fuel system (changing the fuel filters can also help)

what manual gearbox are you using for this swap? Ive an M57 306D2 from a 2004 X5 i would like to change it to a manual transmission however the gearbox i have been advised to use is the GS6-53DZ, Kindly give me some leads

These engines are good engines when they are maintained properly,oil changes should be every 20,000,dont go longer,no matter what the owners manual or BMW says,they are high maintenence engines and transmissions,transmissions the same on oil and filter changes and watching for leaks from both and keeping their levels maintained,a lot of people dont maintain them properly and that is where a lot of problems start from,and yes they are a leaky system with some poorly engineered sealing of oil and cooling system,other than that,a good engineered system!Proper maintenence means how many miles you get out it before replacing parts!These engines are built strong,as strong as a Diesel!Just my opinion!

Best of luck on the project! The rear door cards aren’t the same on sadans and wagons. Pull the diff and axles our and swap them into the 1995. It has a 3.07 final drive and the wagon has a 2.65. The 4matic is also ASD/LSD

Are you sure it has sls? 4matics use that reservoir for the ASD diff and 4matic system.
