    Hi. I've bought Peyote seedlings and instead of replanting them, I would like to know if I can graft them onto San Pedro rootstock. Its the start of winter here now, so will it still work if I do it now? They are a year old.

      It definitely is possible but it's recommended to do this during warmer seasons, as both cacti will be actively growing. If you can do this indoors with controlled light and temperature, that can help!

    I'm wondering how free draining the surrounding clay is, won't it trap water around the roots without more drainage? Also are a few days between planting and watering enough time for the roots to heal over and avoid rotting?

    • @SeductiveSpaceship23
      @SeductiveSpaceship23 6 днів тому

      You should *always* wait about 14 days to water after repotting/damaging roots to avoid root rot. Generally the soil should be well draining but I guess they can adapt to various circumstances. Trichocereus are very resilient plants. Some would even say they're hard to kill.

    Question: what happens to the vascular bundle when log growing a san pedro? I see new offssets coming from all the lenght of the plant so I wonder how the horizontaly oriented vascular bundle can bring nutrients from the rotts below it to the offsets above.

    Can the San Pedro cactus 🌵 resist snow and ice? I want a few tall columnular cactus for my yard but don't want anything that won't resist snow and ice.

    • @SanPedroSource
      @SanPedroSource Місяць тому

      While the San Pedro can tolerate some cold, it is maybe not the best choice for areas with prolonged snowfall and freezing temperatures. You can, however, use protective measures like frost blankets to provide an extra layer of insulation, trapping heat from the ground and helping to keep the cactus above freezing temperatures. Just make sure to cover before frost hits.

    Why does it say "5 major types of San Pedro Cacti" but one of the types is a Saguaro Cactus? 🤔

      It can take between 5-10 years depending on the type of trichocereus it is, growing conditions, if it's a flowering type, etc. The first 2 years it will be pretty tiny, then it starts to get sizeable but won't flower until they're mature.

    How can you identify them all as san pedro and then comparing them to san pedro?

    • @SanPedroSource
      @SanPedroSource 2 місяці тому

      That's a fair question! It's a common and accepted naming convention in the San Pedro community when you're talking about these cacti. Besides the umbrella term "San Pedro", we reference the Trichocereus pachanoi/Echinopsis Pachanoi as its common name "San Pedro" for time and ease, and the others as their common names as well (Peruvian, Bolivian, etc). We can understand how that might be confusing at first.

    • @SanPedroSource
      @SanPedroSource 3 місяці тому

      It's very important to allow the cut end of the cactus to callus over. This creates a protective barrier that helps prevent moisture from entering the plant, reducing the risk of rot. We suggest taking the plant out to inspect it, cut it again if there is any damage or soft/dark brown spots, and let it callus properly before replanting. Hope this helps!
