R2 will forever be one of the strangest mysteries by far, it had Badniks, work was started on the boss, it had a whole scene in the ending sequence, concept art ect. I recall a few years back the "Plan Book" for the game was found by one of the designers in a tweet that mentioned it possibly had more info about it but declined to share more. The soundtrack also apparently having at least the bad future remix as well makes me think they at least did the good and bad futures but probably not the sequenced past music before the level got cut. Speaking of which there's conflicting information that apparently the designer for R2 didn't do a good enough job or that the level was too slow and more platform based which is why it got cut for Collision Chaos...
There is a lot of nonsense on the internet We did some research, and yes, R2 was cut because all the music in the game didn't fit on the disc So if R2 was cut because of the music, then maybe the music for this level was created? Moreover, R2 was cut around 0.02, and 0.02 is the MIDDLE of Sonic CD development So, something was created, but whether we will ever get it is unknown I can't say anything about the speed of the level, it's just that the level itself was supposed to be technical lol It's unlikely that if the level was so slow, they would cut it out completely (and this is art, objects, etc.) because it's very unprofitable, it would be easier to just rework it For example, in 510 TTZ was slower than in the final, but they changed it

A little thing I noticed about the aqueduct concept art is that you can see the background of the level, with a blue sky, grey mountains, some green at the base of the mountains, and a large brown area, looking more arid. Maybe the present would have the background looking kind of like a desert, but the level itself would be a green area with trees due to the aqueducts, while the past would be a lot greener, with the forest expanding through the background, the bad future is a wasteland with technology, and the good future has the forest back and also some positive technology.
My theory is that they threw that background out because it wasn't possible to implement rainbow waterfalls on it And that background from concept art moved to QQZ Past
@@makasinaaaa that doesn’t explain the dirt brown. I think that the Little Planet concept art would have come first, and then the aqueducts. We won’t know for sure unless the background ever gets released.
@@Cretaceous158 I think the brown ground was just a placeholder to later decide on the color of the ground You don't need to take every detail from the concepts seriously, the same SSZ doesn't look like what was on the concept at all (another concept art, not the one of the little planet)
@@Cretaceous158I really think the dirt brown and aqueducts are for the foreground instead of bg, counting all the limitations of the hardware, a bg that is desert and forest would be hard to do as well as the themings clashing with each other, again it's my opinion

Wow i never realized the pattern in CD's level colors, and this project is just so cool!
there are many hidden patterns in SCD, one day I will make a video analyzing them The only level that stands out from the patterns is WWZ, but maybe they just changed the color later in development

I've played all those SCDU builds for so long and seeing how this became in the end is just charming, everything fits well together, everything makes sense, everything is just perfect. (The old bg just couldn't go to waste like this, I had to use it lmao) In a certain way, this project also helped forging our friendship, this is magical (if that makes sense) And now, here we are with what seems to be, the best R2 period.
