Sharpening Your Pencil and Gesture Drawing to Evoke Attitude & Energy
As an artist, having the right tools can make all the difference in bringing your vision to life. One of the most fundamental yet often overlooked tools is the humble pencil.
// The Basics of Sharpening
It's all about the marks I want to make. This means I am using either a single blade razor blade or my PowerMe pencil sharpener for a sharp point.
// The Gestural Drawing Technique
One of my favorite techniques with drawing is what I call gestural drawing. This involves using a sharp point to capture the essence of a subject quickly and intuitively. With gestural drawing, I'm free to express myself without worrying too much about details. It's all about capturing the mood and feeling of a piece. Then I find the right balance between precision and expressiveness. I've found that using a pencil with a long point made by a razor blade allows me to be more free and gestural in my drawing.
// The Power of Attitude
When holding the pencil, it's not just about the tool itself, but also the attitude and energy behind it. So, why does sharpening a pencil matter when it comes to your drawing experience? For me, it's not just about the tool itself, but also the attitude and energy behind it.
// Breaking Through Perfectionism
As artists, we often struggle with perfectionism and fear of failure. But what if I told you that sometimes, imperfection is exactly what's needed? By embracing gestural drawing and letting go of our need for precision, we can break through these barriers and tap into our creative potential.
Sharpening a pencil is not just about taking care of your tools; it's about unlocking your creativity and approaching your art with the right attitude.

Переглядів 9014 днів тому
The way a mark is made in a painting depends on several variables: the medium used, the surface used, and most importantly, the brush used.
