Gandalf Revealed! Interview with Daniel Weyman from The Rings of Power
At the invitation of Grace Hill Media, on Monday 30th of September I interviewed Daniel Weyman, one of the stars of Amazon Prime's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, for the Catholic Weekly (CW). This interview was about the revelation of the identity of the character he's been playing since season one -- the Stranger -- as the Wizard Gandalf in the second season finale which aired on October 3rd. Daniel does a deep dive into his motivations for playing the role, his interactions with other characters, and discloses his love for J. R. R. Tolkien's work. We also discussed the series' faithfulness to Tolkien's work, as well as the latter's Catholicism. Here is the link to the CW article:

In 2019, I gave a presentation at the Antiochian Christian Orthodox Youth's (ACOY) annual NSW retreat on the theme of "Stand Aright, Stand with Fear," titled "Our Whole Life as an Offering to God: Learning to 'Stand Well.'" I have renamed the presentation to reflect the themes I actually addressed and to make it more accessible.

From a lecture delivered for a Byzantine Studies course at St Andrew's Greek Orthodox Theological College (2020). This presentation utilises photos I took of the extant Byzantine art and architecture on a research trip to Istanbul, former Constantinople, in 2011. It analyses the relevant churches and monuments in their historical context. High resolution versions of these photos will appear in ...

The Fall of Constantinople: The Byzantine Achievement and Legacy
The men of Arnor gave Mithrandir, his common name 'Gandalf'. Oh and Gandalf never met Bombadil until after destruction of the One Ring! Hate this series! Anyone that is not familiar with actual Tolkien, will think this bs is cannon, it's not, it's badly made fan fiction.🤬
Wonder why no one asked why Gandalf doesn't appear on Middle Earth until the 3rd Age?😂🤦♂️
I mean it wasnt much of a reveal lmao
Sauron: I have (have had) many names. Gandalf: You’ll know when one name is your name. Dark Wizard: That is a name they gave me out of fear and misunderstanding. Adar: Adar is the name that I earned. Miriel: declared “Queen of The Sea” Merimac: “I’m Nobody.” 😍😍
RoP casting director " we need someone who looks like a young mckellan"
Haven't seen Rings of Power, but the Critical Drinker has some great commentary on it 😁
How does he feel about the strong possibility of being measured by Ian McKellen's gold standard for the rest of his life?
Probably not well because most people in Hollywood are petty children or extremely insecure.
Love Sabaton and Blind Guardian great stuff.
Interesting speech and research Mario.
Non-scholarly comment: The fact that a city did not form around Gobekli Tepe, despite its apparent ritual significance, could be attributed to its natural isolation from water and other resources. Nevertheless: something that really intrigued me about this place is that it seems to have been intentionally buried, also at a period predating recorded history. This may have actually prevented a city from growing around it. Truly an interesting place.
Congratulations
Great discussion and overview of your book!
Thank you!
Interesting conference about eschatology of millenarism. Hugs Mario Baghos.
Excellent speech, Mario.
Thank you!
Fascinating material! It has practically refused to stop raining all year in my usually VERY dry part of the world, which has me thinking about experiencing "the waters above" in quantity. Something like the coastline rising, reducing the amount of safe, ordered dry land, causing the chaos of death to draw nearer, and destroying structures which are too far away from the center. I'm not particularly adept at symbolic thinking, but I've been enjoying your videos!
Thank you for your interest Ethan! You provide some interesting reflections on the aquatic submergence of land and infrastructure from the periphery to the centre. If the centre is usually perceived as a stabilising force (in most symbolic thinker anyway) then the encroachment of chaos--one way to interpret water--can be truly troubling. Don't forget that water also has a purifying/positive significance as well!
