Eric Stenman - The Barbarians Of California - Interview
The Shit Talk fellas had a very enjoyable chat with the super talented studio engineer, producer and mixer Eric Stenman. Eric has been working in the music industry for over 35 years, both playing bass and guitar and running studios, wearing all sorts of different hats along the way. Going back to 2011, he has worked with Aaron Bruno and Los Angeles based band AWOLNATION. In recent years, Eric and Aaron connected with some heavy material that Eric had been working on in the shadows. Fortunately for all of us, we now get to hear what they came up with, and it is absolutely stellar.
The Barbarians Of California have smashed onto the scene with the release of their first album And Now I’m Just Gnashing My Teeth. It’s packed with all kinds of musical flavors from punk to metal and thrash, punctuated by some moments of surprising calm. Fellow AWOLNATION members Isaac Carpenter on drums and Zach Irons on guitar round out the band’s lineup and they’ve delivered a heavy, super energetic, slammin’ first album. We’re all hoping that they hurry up and tour this album and then release more material!
You can follow The Barbarians Of California on Instagram at @barbariansofca

Fronted by Brian Fair (Shadows Fall, Overcast,) Derek Kerswill (Unearth, Seemless,) Matt Lebreton (Frozen, Cannae,) Pete Gelles (Birch Hill Dam, Sorrowseed,) Downpour brings a delicious mix of the heavy with some metalcore, progressive metal and straight up power. We love this record and our only beef with it is that ...

This episode the Shit Talk triumvirate yak about Schizophrenia, the latest album from Cavalera Conspiracy. Of course, as the majority of the content on the record was first released in 1987 by Sepultura, one could be forgiven for saying it’s technically a Sepultura album. As sad as I am to see Mick Mars not a part of the song, this was a great opportunity for Motley to utilize John 5s guitar skills to put a different guitar twist on a classic Motley sound should they have chosen to go that route. It could have been epic. Instead what we get is a lazy, over computerized AI song with lyrics so bad it makes Nickleback look good. This was definitely a missed opportunity. Look what Sabestian Bach did with What Have I Got to Lose, a great track that could have fit in on Slave to the Grind. Motley should have followed that route.

Invincible Shield is the best album ever released by Judas Priest. It's simply a masterpiece. Best lyrics, best message. Best production. It's a album of hope. Halford's faith is clearly on display. The only great song on Firepower is "Rising from ruins" My favorite songs on Invincible Shield are Panic attack, Crown of Horns, As God is my witness, Trial by fire fire, Sons of thunder. Devil in disguise could be a Bible sermon. Every song is great. The Lodger is the only "strange" song. Panic attack starts off with the turbo synth.

@@scooter29 I loved Guardians/Rising from ruins, Never a hero. I liked Traitors gate and the acoustic song, I forget the name. That's about it. I gave the Firepower album a grade of B- I will say Guardians/Rising from ruins is definitely the bridge and pathway too the Masterpice "Invincible Shield" which I gave a grade of A++ Its absolutely miraculous that JP was able to accomplish this masterpiece. Ritchie almost dies from a heart issue, Glen Tipton with his ongoing ailment of Parkinson disease. Rob Halford's recovery from prostate cancer. Words cannot define how great Invincible Shield really is. It's one of the greatest Rock/Metal albums of all time by anyone.

Great episode! Love Ministry and love the new album. Definitely a return to that late 80's sound which is also my favorite period. I was very into industrial back in the day, probably because my anger at what was going on in the world was matched by my love of sampling and new production techniques. My faves are "Goddamn Whit Trash" and "TV Song". Totally makes sense "Ricky's Hand" doesn't quite fit because it is a cover of an song by the post-punk band Fad Gadget, who are more keyboard focused. Anyway, great job. Please check out my podcast/YT channel if you get a chance. We will likely be covering this album sometime soon.

Love bands you can put any one of their albums on and listen to it from start to finish and not want to skip a single track! Unearth is one of those rare bands! Also, they have always stayed true to their sound! Never sold out! Like Metallica for instance... old skool Metallica is so amazing! Wish they would go back to their roots!
