stellar stuff, man this song could have been released today and no one would have been the wiser. let's make sure this song never fades from our consciousness
Hey James. It is indeed from December 1991 (hence the Xmas decs!) - it was only a few months before it was released as a single, but it wasn't uncommon for bands to preview songs on 'The Word' some time in advance. I think the band were trying to get away from 'Leisure' asap and reinvent themselves again, hence maybe why the early performance here?
As the guy who originally uploaded it, yep! Alex used to occasionally visit the Hothouse on Holdenhurst Road in Bournemouth (still there but called Sound Circus) and, true to form, was charming and a dick. Asked my mate if he could get off with his missus if he bought him a triple tequila. There's the measure of the man.

This can't be 1991... Popscene didn't come out for a couple of years after that! This is from November 1992 apparently!
zararity just because popscene didn't come out until 1993 doesn't mean this wasn't 1991. It was released as a single on March 30th 1992
They started playing it live in their sets in 1991 - i think the date is correct.
Probably December 1991 - they've got the Xmas trees up in the studio...
@@iyers Quite right, it's December 1991.
Blur used to play live many songs 1 or 2 years before they were released (Popscene, Oily Water, Parklife, Mr.Robinson's Quango, etc.)
1991....what a fuckin time to be alive and young
