Things You Need to Know about All-Optical Network (AON) | GLSUN
All-Optical Network (AON) refers to a network where the transmission and switching processes are entirely carried out via optical fibers.
This means that data transmission from the source node to the destination node takes place entirely in the optical domain, with E/O and O/E conversions occurring only at the points of entry and exit of the network.
Since there's no need for frequent E/O and O/E conversions, network speed is significantly enhanced. The main technologies of AON include optical fiber technology, SDH, WDM, OXC, optical switching technology, PON technology,
and optical amplifier technology.
Among the various devices and components in AON, OXC, and OADM are considered the core technologies, while optical switches and optical switch arrays are the key technologies behind OXC and OADM.
