@TheFairway8 Thanks for the comments. Yes I agree the top mesh is useless in the rain, but great for securing snacks, maps for quick access. I kind of like the interior top lid zipper compartment to stash my keys and wallet. Items that I throw in, leave and not open until the end of the trip. I've own the pack for many years and take it everywhere, I will probably down size to the new 25L version once this pack breaks down.

@trailtreker7002 I did not know that camping near water in freezing conditions heightens the hypothermia levels in the body during the night. I really wanted to test my gear to see if it would stand up to the cold, even a few budget pieces of gear. Thank you for the comment

Hello, Thanks for the question. This is a semi-free standing tent which means that part of the tent will still need to be staked out, but you are able to move the tent around to the right spot without disassembling the whole tent. The primary reason why the back does not have a double Y pole structure is to save some weight without compromising the integrity or wind resistance of the tent.

@@DarrenYee Thank's for the answer, but in my opinion the difference in terms of weight and volume are don't comparable with the benefits of a freestanding tent. Adding a few more sections of poles doesn't rise up the weight exessively.

@@DarrenYee I tried single wall tent like the Naturhike Vik2 on the Italian Dolomiti Alps. Some freestanding and not freestanding double wall used for backpacking and moto trip at altitudes from zero obliviusly to over 2000mt. At this moment i testing the Naturhike CloudUp2 and I think that a flaw is the excessively vertical walls which reduce internal livability. However, it has the rear Y that makes it freestanding wich i consider better then the one in the video. So I would have combined the spaciousness given by the poles of the one in the video with the rear Y part like the 'Clouds. I also tried one non freestanding but since I'm not a poles-guy I don't like them.

@ludovicocazzola Nice I wanted to try the Naturehike vik2, there is also another Naturehike Star River UL that is a freestanding that looks promising, but I haven't seen too many reviews. I might have to bite the bullet and review it myself, lol

@robertozzz777 Yes, after your trip air dry and store in an open zip lock bag. I try not to keep it screwed onto the soft flask for storage to prevent mold and mildew. Thanks

Yeah Magesafe is cool, but with some draw back. Charging speed, battery gets hot. I haven't found one that charges more than 15W. What do you use?

It switches on if you are charging a device or the power bank is being charged. It automatically switches off once the device is fully charged or has fully charged the power bank. The power bank has power safety features that can detect when it is close to being charged slows down and then powers off once fully charged.

Yes, This tents inner is exposed in the back and it does produce condensation. Anything that is touching the exposed wall in the back does get wet, unfortunately. To combat this I try to put some kind of vapor barrier in between my sleeping bag and the back like my rain jacket or pack liner.

Good question, 12 lbs. Is the base weight without consumables including food and water. I am budgeting about 2 lbs. of food per day and carry about 2 liters of water. So my total trail weight will be a little over 20 lbs. over the course of the 3 day backpacking trip.

Hi Brian, Thanks for the comment. The Farpointe Alpha Cruiser is 90 gsm and weigh's 4 oz. paired with my shell I can wear it down to freezing temps. Beyond that I would bring my puffy jacket. I have not tested a 120 gsm alpha direct so I can't say if it would be warmer than a puffy jacket. Let me know how it goes if you try it out.

Yep, I didn't know about it until last year when my brother in law and I did the Strawberry Fields bike ride. I definitely recommend checking it out if you are in the area of Santa Cruz.

Thanks doubling up on any type of insulation will keep you warmer. Just make sure you have a warm enough sleeping pad because the ground will suck the heat right from under you.
