May I please ask what the white layer is that is between the leather pad?
Hi brilliant video, my donkey's get seedy toe is it ok to put boots on them , thanks Paul
Sorry just getting back into UA-cam. Yes it is. I would advise using some form of anti bac paste on the seedy toe area when you put them in boots.
Question for you? How do you get the horse to stand so still on 3 legs while you work are they ever off balance? Also I imagine it feels like a spa day for the horses and they like being fussed over 😂
They get used to it 😂 99.9% are good as gold!
Hallo! Nice job! How much time passes from the first to the last video?
Thank you. 🙏 6months was the time frame
👍👍👍
that looks gross but your kind to help the horse.
Yes it’s not the prettiest, however it’s amazing how quickly they can heal 🙂
How did they get that gnarly chip to begin with? Great progress 👍🏼
It’s had a keratoma, (which is a benign tumour), removed by the vet and this is the patch that was put over the top to keep it clean.
Looks like its professionally done...
😰😰😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️🙏
OHH! My Goodness, That's Terrible, Hopefully someone took care of this
This horse is recovering nicely. There is a short video a bit further back of after surgery and I will be posting updates
I'm watching from Thermopolis, Wyoming in the USA. Grew up on a large ranch, my fondest memories.❤
Poor little donkeys suffering in the wrong climate just because humans: Oh How Cute, I Want One!😢 Move to a hot climate if you really love them. But then I'd be uncomfortable! 👵🏻So... Thankfully the farrier knows what it is and what to do but still it's so sad🥺
Yes they are definitely in the wrong climate. However there are an awful lot of them and shipping them back to a warmer climate would not be feasible and so we do what we can do to help them. They have been over here for 100’s of years now though and are very adaptable little creatures 🙂
Will sound silly but shout out to your barber for creating a cut that keeps your lovely head of hair looking indoor-perfect!
😂😂💯
Its time to LEARN to fit that toe and not drag the shoe soooo far back!
What does that mean please? I'm not an equestrian but enjoy learning and farrier work to me is fascinating even though I know nothing so I ask. Thank you Dear😊
Different horses need different types of shoe fit. Some off of the toe, some to the toe and some back from the toe, by treating every horse as an individual it means that we can get the best result for every horse
I have watched a lot of hoof trimming video over the past few years, and I wanted to tell you that i really appreciate the way you educate on your methods and differences in hoof issues. Nice looking video, without any obnoxious music or extra talking. You speak calmly and right to the point. I subscribed, which I do not do that much! Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much! Appreciate the great feed back. I will have more content coming out in 2024
Looks like its healing wuite nicely❤
The first nail did not trim away flush so I hope it was corrected.
💯 anything that isn’t flush gets rasped down afterwords
@@harryspinksfarrier4412Oh thank you! I've never had my face so close to a farrier's work before. I am in respectful awe of farriers, especially today with so much more information and materials to work with. The correction that is possible of hooves that are badly abused is nothing short of miraculous. You're part horse lover and wizards!🧙♂️🐴💗
How common is it for you to use four nails per shoe?
For me it depends on the work that the horse does and the size of the horse, but I like to use as few nails as possible. Probably 40% of ours have four nails in.
What a pretty horse, nice job. I watch “Open Gate” Brazil, my God the Farrier struggles, horses with shocking hoof problems, limited access to products and owners with next to no funds.
I haven’t seen that yet. I’ll have to try and watch it. In the U.K. we have such great access to materials and education and the guys with limited kit and education still so a good job it’s just a lot harder for them.
Nice work Harry, greetings from Roleystone Western Australia. I was sure you were Australian when I started watching but no you’re from Dorsett! Fond memories of staying with my MIL at Cole Hill, she passed away suddenly 1.5 yrs ago 😢 I hope your subs grow and Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you. 🙏 sadly Iv never been to Aus, but it is on the list of places to visit. Cole Hill is a lovely area and sorry to hear off you loss. I hope you have a great Christmas.

Using your thumb 😅😅😅....as if
The thumb is a great indicator. If the foot flexes to thumb pressure then something isn’t right. It shouldn’t be able to do that
I love it when they do that. Just as long as they do not turn it into a love nibble haha
😅 💯 no one’s wants a love nibble from a horse!
They know you have them you can see it in their actions❤️
💯 😊
Fabulous, Harry.
Thanks mate 🙏
Harry, old pal, the volume on your video is very low. Perhaps you can increase the volume?
Thanks Geoff will take a look and get that sorted for future videos
Is this the best treatment for a horse with low soft heels?
This is for a laminitic foot. They can work well for horses with low heels, however it depends on how bulbs the frog is. There may be better options. In the forms of pads and packing for those types of horses
@@harryspinksfarrier4412 thank you I have been trying to get a corrective farrier in my area and it's like finding a 4 leave clover especially with just one horse and no trailer
Salve.....come avete provveduto a ferrarlo??
He is unshod at the moment and we are treating the affected area. Shoeing wise we may end up with a hospital plate on it, but we will make that decision when we have sorted out the abscess.
I bet that was painful for him.
Does that hurt the horse?
No it shouldn’t. Shoeing should (if done correctly) alleviate any foot pain
@@harryspinksfarrier4412 oh alright It just looked like you were being a bit rough but then I have never owned a horse
Nice job. I loke how gentle you are with the donky❤
Thank you 🙏
Mmmmmm Parmesan
😂
Looks so cold i thought it was snowing at first!
😂😂 not that cold yet. It is a bit damp though!
Bel lavoro Maestro......
Thank you 🙏
Laminitis is hard to come back from, poor girl. Good work.
Thank you and yes it can be a very debilitating for the horse. A lot of work from us and the owner went into getting this one back on track
That's nice work. Clean and even.
Thank you 🙏
Le pauvre il doit avoir mal 😢
To be honest not to bad on the pain front. They cope quite well with this type of surgery
I was apprenticednto a farrier briefly when i was young. His narrowboat caught fire and he lost the use of his hamds; i ended up nursing him for two years instead. I went on to work in IT, which i hated. Life is capricious and cruel.
Sorry to hear that. That sounds like a horrible accident. It is a great trade and I don’t know where you are based or how old you are but I have had friends that started their apprenticeship at 40
@@harryspinksfarrier4412 He's a bit better now; his childhood sweetheart reappeared and married him in the end, so silver linings. As for me I'm the wrong side of 50, thinking more about retirement than apprenticeships! I keep a few horses and sheep again now, so I get to pickup and even trim the odd foot, I'm just not qualified to drive any nails! Thanks for your reply.
Triggers were triggered most definitely but very interesting, healing energies for the 🐎
Danm, poor thing.
Hey guys stop and think about angles, are you write ? Stop and think about the way to dress the feet and allow for the most important item. Movement
Is he sound enough to be ridden?
Not in this video but by the end of the follow up video he was. Sadly he was put down last year though due to other reasons.
@@harryspinksfarrier4412 thanks for the reply! My horse was recently diagnosed with the same.
Don’t even say what I think y’all gonna say but can I get a pin?
Nice vid ❤
Thank you 🙏
Broken pedal bone?
No just a very small abscess. By her reaction I thought it was going to be worse then it was.

Wait is he a stalion?
No he is a gelding.
Izzy getting a pedicure .
anatomically horse's toe is like your toe or finger with a nail. while you cut your nail isn't hurt(exceptionally while you cut it too deep). yeah horses run with 4 toes only lol
💯 the horses foot is very similar to our distal phalanx. There a lot to learn, but you are correct. If you cut to deep it hurts and you get blood. If you know what and where to trim you will generally be fine.
