    I think probably 1900-2100 is what one should aim for a FAANG, with 1900 being good for Amazon or MSFT, but 2100 for Google or Meta.

      I should specifically mention for USA. In India interviews are much harder. I have a lot of USA friends who solved 150 fundamental problems and walked into Amazon / Google I imagine if you look at the company tagged questions, you won't see many 1900+ questions

      I have noticed in India solving the problem is way more important compared to USA where they are seeing how to communicate and how you do with assumptions imho.

    I would really also suggest foundational stuff; reading and doing all the problems in concrete mathematics, then reading CLRS will definitely make you pretty proficient without even touching leetcode.

      For my CS degree we did Calc 1,2,3 + Discrete Math + Linear Algebra. None of those helped me solving DSA problems. So I don't even recommend them cuz it personally didn't help me. I read Skiena's Algorithm Design Manual too (idk about CLRS) and it was a great book but did not help me solve problems better. Only practice helped me solve problems better

      When people set out to learn English, I'm like, "you should start with Olde English. Then move to Middle English. Learn Latin, then also consider German and French. 15-20 years of study make it so that English is quite easy to learn."

    • @sisyphus_strives5463
      @sisyphus_strives5463 9 годин тому

      @@the-real-dr2050 I don't think this is analogous. Many of the theoretical concepts give you a strong intuition that may even lead you to developing algorithms on your own. I know that it is not necessary, but I do think it is the most optimal if one would like to improve their problem solving capabilities to the furthest extent possible

I'm practicing C++ stuff too so I can move into being able to do embedded type of projects / code faster programs. Start ups would be really cool. Sounds like a fun idea

      Pythons really nice for leetcode. You can write code very quickly and have it consise. It’s also why I choose it for interviews. SOMETIMES, Leetcode has bad test cases and you have to avoid certain Python solutions but it’s overall great. I would use it for Leetcode and job interviews. But it’s bad for competitive programming sites like Codeforces

    00:00:00 In this section of the podcast, Raymond Jones interviews Sierra, a rising senior at the University of Michigan majoring in computer science. Despite the challenging job market in tech, Sierra has managed to secure an internship at Uber. She shares her unique approach to getting interviews, including messaging recruiters and using psychology. Sierra also discusses her experiences as a minority in tech and offers advice for others. Additionally, she talks about her success in growing a significant following on LinkedIn and her involvement in various tech projects and clubs. Sierra shares her journey to building her professional development in CS and securing an internship after a previous disappointment. 00:05:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker, Sierra, shares her experience of becoming a leader in her school organization, Colorcoded, and creating events to help students with professional development. She was inspired by seeing other students' journeys online and wanted to be a role model for black women in tech, particularly from Detroit where tech resources were limited. Sierra started posting daily on LinkedIn, offering advice and support, and eventually gained a large following. She helped students prepare for interviews and landed internships herself through unconventional means, such as hackathons and unsolicited emails. Sierra's determination and drive to help others in her community led to her success and inspired many. 00:10:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker shares her personal experiences and beliefs about achieving goals, particularly in tech-related fields. She emphasizes the importance of having a strong mindset and acting as if one has already achieved one's goals. The speaker discusses her own experiences with impostor syndrome and how she overcame it by focusing on her goals and taking action to learn new skills. She also highlights the role of psychology in shaping one's character and success. The speaker encourages listeners to be resourceful and to view failure as an opportunity for personal growth rather than a setback. Additionally, she mentions that hackathons are good opportunities for companies to discover new talent. 00:15:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker discusses the importance of hackathons for students looking to break into the tech industry. She shares her personal experience of winning hackathons hosted by Capital One and JP Morgan Chase, which led to job offers. The speaker explains that hackathons are not limited to college students and can be applied to by anyone. She advises students to work harder than their peers and emphasizes the importance of applying to companies that align with their desired technologies. The speaker also mentions that cold applications can be effective, but messaging recruiters and using psychology can increase the chances of getting interviewed. Overall, she encourages students to be persistent and go above and beyond in their job applications. 00:20:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)", the speaker discusses various strategies for increasing one's chances of getting an internship or job in the tech industry. She emphasizes the importance of reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn and making a personal connection. The speaker also mentions attending preparatory programs and hackathons as effective ways to get noticed by recruiters. She shares her own experiences of landing offers through these methods. Additionally, she suggests posting on social media as a way to make connections and potentially get referred for opportunities. The speaker also touches on her personal experience of becoming a software engineering influencer by sharing tips and tricks on social media and engaging with her audience. 00:25:00 In this section, the speaker shares her experience of wanting to give back to her community in Detroit and provide opportunities for students interested in computer science. She hosts a College and Career Workshop to help students network with professionals and asks them to return to their alma maters to share their experiences. The speaker believes that making resources accessible to everyone is important and has benefited students at her school. She also discusses her perspective on being a black woman in tech, stating that she doesn't constantly think about her identity in this field but takes advantage of being an oddball to showcase her skills and confidence. 00:30:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)", the speaker shares her experience of attending a panel discussion featuring black women software engineers. She expresses how striking it was for her to see and connect with women who looked like her and shared similar experiences. The speaker reflects on the cultural significance of seeing representation and the impact it had on her. She also touches upon the economic and demographic factors that influence the underrepresentation of black women in tech and her involvement in organizations that aim to foster growth and development in computer science for this community. 00:35:00 In this section, the speaker shares her personal experience of lacking guidance and knowledge about college applications and corporate careers during her middle school years. She expresses gratitude for her parents' support and the resources they provided, despite their limited understanding of the corporate world. The speaker also notes that this lack of knowledge and guidance is not uncommon in her community, and that many students are not exposed to information about niche corporate careers or after-school programs. She emphasizes the importance of having role models and connections within the industry, especially for underrepresented groups. The speaker also mentions her experiences with racism and sexism in the industry, but shares that she doesn't let it bother her and instead focuses on her abilities and logic to overcome any challenges. 00:40:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker shares her personal experiences of being a black woman in the tech industry and how her background in gaming has shaped her mindset. She explains that people often have preconceived notions about her based on her appearance, but she has learned not to let it affect her. The speaker also discusses how her upbringing in a predominantly black community has influenced her approach to racism and how it has not limited her. She emphasizes the importance of having a strong mindset and how it can positively impact one's career and life. 00:45:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker discusses the importance of having a positive mindset and working hard to overcome barriers, particularly in the context of systemic racism. She shares her personal experiences and emphasizes that while individuals can work hard to achieve their goals, the systemic issues that disadvantage certain groups should be addressed. The speaker also touches upon her preparation for coding interviews and the role of social media in connecting with influencers and peers. She mentions having met with Morgan at Harvard We Code, who has provided valuable resources and support. However, she does not have a favorite programming social media influencer or consistently look to one particular person for guidance. 00:50:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)", the speaker discusses the role of social media platforms like LinkedIn and Twitch in helping individuals navigate the corporate world and discover new opportunities. Morgan, a graduate and undergraduate influencer on LinkedIn, has been a significant help to the speaker in learning about professional development and applying for internships. The speaker also mentions their own experience on Twitch, where they have built a community and discovered opportunities in industries they were previously unfamiliar with, such as high-frequency trading. The conversation then shifts to the speaker's goals in tech, with a focus on becoming a 10x engineer and eventually retiring as a software engineer and angel investor, while continuing to stream on Minecraft UA-cam. The speaker also mentions that software engineering careers can be short-lived, citing examples of retirees who continue to work in the field through streaming or consulting. 00:55:00 In this section of the UA-cam video titled "She Just Got An Uber Internship, Here's How (Is tech doomed? | Diversity as SWE | Mindset)," the speaker shares her experience of running a community project called Tech Cadet, which aims to promote project development, growth, and computer science-related projects for students who don't have internships. She discusses the success of the program and her dedication to it, despite having a busy schedule. The speaker also answers a question about computational Redstone in Minecraft and offers advice to younger college students, encouraging them not to let impostor syndrome hold them back and to take advantage of available resources. She emphasizes the importance of taking action and not complaining about a lack of experience.
