@@jardon8636 They are traditional German catholic student fraternities. The fraternities stem from the 18th and 19th century and they dress in their traditional uniforms. There are also non-religious, traditional fraternities with similar uniforms. Look up "Studentenverbindung" if you're interested in their history.

Why does the pope want to destroy this?
I’m wondering, what is the flags symbolizing? Is it house flags, or school perhaps 😊? And why QR code flag? It was very majestic watching this video. I’m curious about the occasion this video was captured; was it a special event or celebration?
I think they are flags of various parishes in the Cologne archdiocese. The QR seems clever...there will certainly be people filming the procession with their phones, and they can use the QR code to find out about the parish or whatever the flag is for. The three banners at the beginning represent the Three Kings (Magi) who visited the newborn Christ child. This cathedral contains a shrine with relics (bones) of the three kings and is therefore a major pilgrimage site for visitors who want to venerate the relics.

@@thenorwegianyoutuber The flags are also from different catholic student fraternities (the guys with the colorful uniforms) and other catholic organizations. There are various catholic associations/organizations in Germany in every diocese from catholic boy scouts to the order of Malta volunteers who are often represented in high mass with their flags.

Beautiful, but almost a crime that this wasn't done before the old, high altar instead of the free standing one in the nave.
They're so liberal in Germany that, when ten altar servers wanted to be the thurifer, they gave each one a thurible so that no one had their feelings hurt!

I've always been amazed by the beauty of the Catholic Church. If only the Pope didn't allow blessing of gay couples and actually stood for Christian values... because it's just not happening. Instead we're soon going to see an LGBT banner in one of the priests hands one day. :(

The tradition of incense at Catholic services began with the Three Kings (Wisemen), adoring the Baby Jesus and presenting Him with their gifts of Gold, Incense and Myrrh, a plant. Incense signifies His Divinity, Gold His Kingship and Myrr His humanity and are forebear of His eventual death (The Jews' bodies of that time, maybe even still, were enclosed with a salve derived from the myrrh plant).
