    Nice mash-up of games. I have done the same with others that have boards that would work with other systems. Look forward to your video on it.

    Is 'Soldiers' you are referring to a published game with rules and components, or are you recreating a game using different pieces from a variety of games?

    • @Nangwaya

      The Soldiers game is a published game, and all I will bedoing is adding a terrain feature to the rules, that is really about it. Here is the game I am referring to and also where you can download the rules free, if you want to look: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4241/soldiers-tactical-combat-in-1914-15 www.spigames.net/PDFs/SoldiersRules.pdf

    Could three hexes concentrate all the their strength points against a single hex in mountains? It seems like the attackers should be heavily penalised for fighting in mountains, if they're not alpine units. Maybe three hexes couldn't coordinate an attack against a single hex, and they should be limited to attacking from only 1 or 2 hexes? I wonder how this all worked out historically. I really have no idea how any of this should work! 😀

      @Nangwaya 4 дні тому

      You are sounding very much like Alberto, in his comments about mountain wrafare, etc. Yes, they certainly can concentrate all their strength points on a single hex. I am not doing the "everyone has to be attacked in your ZOC" thing. Thanks for this!

    I must have missed this; what does a counter represent? A division?

    • @Nangwaya
      @Nangwaya 4 дні тому

      My counters are what I cam calling Battle Groups, and they represent one or more divisions. In Der Welktrieg, say six divisions worth is the staking limit. So what I am doing, to represent the various comparitive strengths of each forces armies, for example Germany being better than say Russians, I am giving the Germans have a higher Strength point cap they can put in a Battle Group than the Russians, although they would still have the same divisional overhead and infrastructure, etc. Hope that makes sense.

    I am also in favour of summarising rules and removing many exceptions, but some of the things you mention are not logical in my opinion. Defending in the mountains is easier (the terrain protects you...) + attacking in the mountains is more difficult (movement, generally if the defender has chosen well, is upwards...), so even if both fight in the mountains, this cannot cancel out a defensive modifier, for the above reasons. Cavalry always supplied. Horses eat fodder... but soldiers need, in addition to food, ammunition, spare parts, additional clothing, medicines... I think that in conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries, Napoleonic foraging or the American Civil War as a supply, even if it is limited... I don't see it. And even less so that they can supply. Just as you show the artillery... it has too powerful capabilities. It is not affected by ZOC and it exercises it... and as it does not need supply, it could cut off the entire enemy rearguard with impunity without problems... in the style of the cavalry in the US Civil War. I think that what is really unnecessary, and more so in WWI, is to exercise ZOC in high mountains. The capacity of units established in high mountains to move, at that scale, to influence or stop enemy units moving nearby (at that scale it doesn't have to be so close) is really very limited. But everyone designs their games as they see fit!

      First off, thank you so much for your feedback! I am truly gratedul. I will be thinking of what you said for a while, however, I think I will be incorporating your mountain thinking, into my game. I am really exapanding it on the next go-around, so it should start to break very quickly, and I can learn from it. It feels like the first day getting the training wheels off, and thinking I can now peddle hands-free :) This ought to be interesting, but I hope informative for how to proceed. Thanks again!
