Do PRIME LENSES Make You A BETTER Photographer?
Fun fact! I once had a client project where I had a render queue of 250+ videos because of subtitles in different languages and formats. Good times. Hope you enjoyed the video!
Try using proteus and iris should have the option to add second enhancement. I just started using topaz and it takes a lot of tinkering for old low quality videos.
Thank you, I appreciate it! Will give that a shot. Yeah it can definitely test your patience at times, haha, but when you finally get that result it’s worth it.
Is it so that I can't put any effects on the magic mask, otherwise everything is black or the mask is gone. Only the first frame is still there
Hmm, it kind of sounds like you may have forgotten to track the magic mask? 🤔 As far as I know you should be able to add additional effects on the masked area.
@@chrisjohnsson the magic mask works great but when I want to do something with it the mask disappears or the video goes completely black. macbook pro M1 max . D.R. studio
@@patrickgoethals3235 Strange! I know that you might have to redo the track sometimes after changing/adding things... If it still doesn’t work I would probably try creating an alpha channel output of the mask before adding the other effect, create a new compound clip of that clip in the timeline, and then add the effect on that compiled clip. Does that make sense? 😅
it’s not showing that i have face tracking, do i have to buy it somewhere?
No it’s built in inside the software, no plugins. If it’s not there in the list with the mask tracking options it might have changed in an update..? Not sure as I haven’t used it myself in a while, to be honest. 😬
this is actually useful, thanks!
Glad to hear that, thank you!
Clip your Mic, much less annoying
I don’t know, it’s kind of nice holding it while recording, gives me something to do with my hands when in front of the camera. Fun fact, Røde do actually sell a grip attachment for this mic, if one ever wants to go full newscaster.
Thanks for the video. Is the process same for video where I sit and explain about stuff and I want the background to be blurry.
Yes, that should work just fine! You might just have to create a bigger mask to include everything in the foreground. Or multiple masks, whichever gets the best result. Thanks for watching! ☺️🙏
Wrong title! This NOT available for Davinci Resolve 19. Only for Davinci Resolve 19 **Studio**.
You’re right, I just changed it. Thank you! ☺️
i can't fine magic mask tools?
That might be because you're on the free version, I think Magic Mask only is available for the studio version of DaVinci, sadly.
Nice intro. Nice examples. Nice explanation. Nice tutorial.
Thank you, really love to hear that!
I appreciate the video but I feel like you could have edited out a lot of unnecessary stuff. Maybe I'm just too impatient.
Appreciate your feedback! I’m sure it’s a little combination of both haha. But I hear you. I’ll find that balance one day!
Thanks!
You bet, thanks for watching! 🙏
You can also use it with Depth Map
Very true! You might get a lot of bleeding edges on your subject when using the depth map to blur though, is what I’ve found st least.
Hey man thanks. How do you sync your iPad to your computer to use the pencil ?
You are very welcome! This was using the Wacom cintiq tablet, that I bought for photo editing, but it’s great for pretty much any type of editing. I use it all the time haha.
Hi, I was wondering if there's a way to make your own type of censoring that tracks like the mosaic censor, I'm trying to use it for a project but I've yet to find a video with a tutorial on it
Hi! You can definitely change the effect to a Gaussian blur any other type of effect that you want to replace the mosaic with. Or were you thinking about a specific type of effect?
thank you!
You are very welcome!
I don't know either. It kinda looks better, but also blurry and cartoonish. I think our brain is better at filling in the lost details than AI, so these kinds of enhancements are probably best used when you want to go from mid to high pixel density, but not if your source is low.
I think you’re right, the gap in detail is probably too big for it to enhance properly. Still, a strange sense of the footage being better, in an uncanny way haha.
Great video, nothing crazy, straight to the point, plenty of examples and very chill.
Thank you for that, really appreciate it! 🙏
they forgot to put a collar on your shirt
@@holobolo1661 Haha, I had a feeling I payed too much for not enough shirt..
Have Depth Maps gotten better throughout the versions? Im using Davinci 18 and im hesitant about updating to 19, but I might aswell if it makes these better
Good question! Not sure how much the effect itself differs from 18 to 19, it hasn’t changed as much as Face Refinement for example. But I feel like all these ”intelligent” effects in DaVinci do get better with each update, even though it might just be a little each time. I can say that I’m very happy with moving from 18 to 19 at least. Smooth transition for sure.
amazing video, straight to the point. Thanks!!!
Thank you, love to hear that! 🙏
Filmed, edited and published this one in one afternoon. Hope it doesn't reflect too much on the quality, hehe... Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any good tips on how to get creative with the depth map.
A voice de clicker would have been nice! Otherwise impressed you got this out in a day
@ Noted, appreciate the tip! And thanks, I’m happy with how it turned out as well, considering the time spent. ☺️🙏
Perfect
Thank you! 🥰🙏

Very insightful, thanks for taking the time to post! 👍
Glad to hear that, thank you for watching! 🙏

Thank you, and you are very welcome!
I hope you enjoyed this one! Just a really easy way to improve the light in a scene with some simple compositing in the Color Page. Hope this technique sparks some ideas for you. 😏
Magic mask isn't there for me
Magic Mask is only a part of the paid studio version I’m afraid. I think it’s a one time fee of 300 usd to upgrade to the studio version, if my memory is correct.
@@chrisjohnsson oh alright thanks for letting me know
this was great thank you!
You are very welcome!
not working man
That’s a shame. What isn’t working exactly? Maybe I can help (although I’m editing in DaVinci these days.. 🙈)
@@chrisjohnsson Hi Chris, despite selecting the audio file I get an error ''Please select exactly one audio file in the active sequence''. I have one sequence and one audio file, how do I fix this?
@@EditorAayus How strange! As long as the music is in a sequence and you have made sure it’s selected in that timeline when using the plug-in it should work, as far as I know. Try reaching out to the developer if you keep having that problem. They probably know things I don’t.
For youtube, talking heads even an a7s2 still be more than perfect
@@TitoCaviar Yes, definitely agree!
I have an doubt
What are you having doubts about? 😃
Hello sir
Hi!
1:33 Thanks for the video mate, but I don't seem to have the symbol for 'Magic Mask', can you help out?
This might be because it’s a part of the studio version and not the free version, sadly… I think the studio version DaVinci is about 300 USD, but a one time cost thankfully.
@@chrisjohnsson Thanks, I tried a slightly different technique by adding a kind of lasso round the subject, it worked! Not perfect but the target wasn't moving much anyway, so it worked. 👍
@@evacuatedspace69 Love it!
It doesn't render with the audio levels you set. It only uses the unaltered audio source from the file. Thats so annoying.
Oh really! Yeah that’s enjoying.. Have you tried checking the ”render timeline effects” box on the deliver page? Don’t know if it solves it, but I feel like it should. 🤔
@@chrisjohnsson not the op but damn this was the fix I was looking for. Feels kinda silly that I missed that but thank you for the help!
Great content my friend! I am curious, what lens did you use to get this beautiful radial blur behind the subject? Thanks!
Thank you very much, really appreciate it! It was filmed with the Helios 44-2 that I picked up from IronGlass. It’s amazing for portraits like this and have really nice lens flares.
Hello, first, thank you for the video, really helpful. And I really want to know which screen you are using as a touchable, functional extra screen for Resolve, that looks really cool. Does the screen works well with resolve?
Hi! Thank you, that’s great to hear! It’s a Wacom display I originally bought for photo retouching, but I use it for almost everything these days, it’s great. Usually mirror my main monitor when I use it during editing, but it also works nicely as a low res second screen. Can recommend for sure. I think my model is the Cintiq Pro 13 inch. ☺️
feel like its so complicated for no reason
I personally like that it’s available right there in the edit page. But I guess it all depends on ones workflow, I’m sure it totally useless to plenty of editors, haha. ☺️🤷♂️
This is amazing! Thanks for sharing it! And by the way, your content is top quality 👌
Thank you! Love to hear that, really appreciate it! 🙏☺️
Super 🎉
@@TimetoTalkwithYevgen Appreciate it! 🙏☺️
Thanks for the video Chris! Great to see some creative ways that you’re able to use Magic Mask. The Magic Mask tool is so good, it saved me on my last UA-cam video. It allowed me to adjust the levels on my background to be more consistent with the changing light during my shoot.
@@bseng Thanks, Ben! Love to hear that!
Thanks for watching! Would love to hear your ideas on how to use the magic mask or any questions you might have. Let’s talk about it, I’m learning as well!
Hello sir
I have an doubt
Nice! Ok, someone beat me to suggesting the depth map instead lol. I'll add you can do it in the color page as well (no need for Fusion).
Love that! It's just great when you can achieve really cool things without having to jump into Fusion.
Jeez, this guy wastes your time SOLUTION IS ON 02:36
I see I forgot to put in my own chapters on this video, thanks for the timestamp! It is very helpful for people in a hurry. 🙏
Hello, how can do the same thing but with cuts in our edit ? If I have small jump cuts and the second clip is almost the same as the first one, do I have to paint a mask again?
Hi! Good question. Yes, either redo the mask for each little clip or create the effect on the entire take, make it into a new compound clip in the timeline and then create your jump cuts. I think that should work too, but it's just a spontaneous idea.
如果你能把声音转换成字幕,我就能理解。谢谢。
I have added subtitles now, I hope it works!
@@chrisjohnsson Thank you very much. You are a good teacher, very careful.
