    The FD 28-50mm f3.5 is the best FD zoom they made, parfocal, sharp wide open. It’s just hard to find.

    @Travis Forbear What were your settings on your camera? I have the a5000 and I am looking to buy the same lens because it makes beautiful videos. Did you have your ISO set or were you on auto? And were you shooting with wide open aperture?

    • @travisforbear255
      @travisforbear255 3 роки тому

      Not quite sure about all the settings, it's been a while. Most of the video was probably shot between f3.5 up to f8. Iso usually at 100 for video. Manual mode.

    I still use Canon FD lenses with Canon M50 - 35-105 and 70-210, they are extremely good, especially the second one, they produce a much better image than modern lenses!

    Hi Travis, we have the same camera (canon 5dm2). I am interested in getting this lens but from what I read online, there is an issue with the back element hitting the mirror of the camera when focus to infinity. Can you verify if this is an issue and what kind of lens adapter do you have for this lens? Thank you.

    Very good video! Very nice pictures ! You talk about macro shots, does that mean that the primary utility of this video lens is primarily for the macro? because I would like to buy it for normal video use.

      no the macro isn't the best in fact it's best for normal video use as it keeps it's focus with changes in zoom

    Nice video. I have the same lens. But in my lens itś not possible to get any sharp image on objects that is far away. Like 100 meters away and so on. Things that is far away will not be sharp. But maybe itś how the lens is. Itś more like a macro lens and not for filming or taking photos of mountain and so on.

    • @travisforbear255
      @travisforbear255 4 роки тому

      Yes, you just need an adapter with a focal reducer. I use it with one and it works just fine. Just make sure to buy a decent one. The extra glass in the reducer can make the lens soft if it's cheap glass. Check around and I'm sure you'll find one that is affordable.

    I just found your video wooow… a great one Bro…..I love to buy that Lens too...cheaper as Tamron 90mm f2.8..I maybe should buy Adapter but would you please tell me is it a good buy if I buy SONY LA EA4 Adapter for my camera Sony Alpha 5100? Because it is E-Mount camera...is this lens fit for E-Mount camera or should I buy an Adapter? Many thanks for the video and if you answer me thousand thanks :) regards from Munich (Newbie in camera-world)

    • @travisforbear255
      @travisforbear255 4 роки тому

      Hi Monika, I use fotodiox fd to e adapters. This lens is full manual so the Sony adapter you want would be fine, but it is meant for auto focus lenses. It's a great adapter, just pricey. I don't own many auto focus lenses for video, so the cheaper adapters work just fine for me.

    • @smashtime1904
      @smashtime1904 4 роки тому

      It's a good lens, a bit large and heavy buy not as bad as you might think. I always thought Canon FD lenses were crappy cause the couple of lenses I had tried were flimsy/poor condition but as I started researching lenses to fit my needs - in my case lenses to equate to 70-210mm f2.8 ect with a 2x crop factor and a 1.42x crop factor from a speedbooster - so I really wanted to give a couple FD lenses another try, and I'm sure glad I did. This lens and the much rarer 50-135mm f3.5 are amazing! There's a few more you may want to look at like the Tokina made 35-105mm f3.5, SMC Pentax A 35-105mm f3.5, Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm f2.8 and 28-85/28-90mm f2.8-3.8 /2.8-3.5.

    • @travisforbear255
      @travisforbear255 5 років тому

      This lens has 2 modes, regular and macro mode. This video was mostly filmed in the regular mode. It's a pretty sharp lens for a non L series lens. f3.5 is a little soft, but f4 and beyond is great for video. It's an under rated lens in my humble opinion. For the price of a good copy and adapter, I'd say it's worth it. Very versitile lens.

    Great footage. You should try it on the Fd-Nex Zhongyi Lens turbo II focal reducer. Basically turns this combo into a FF fov and aperture like on a FF sensor camera. I see a huge quality difference with my setup and almost eliminating the crop.

    • @dpixvid
      @dpixvid 3 роки тому

      Single Lens Reflex wouldn’t recommend for the FD lens. Mine became loose to camera mount & almost impossible to get off, plus it scored the sensor mount. The FD mount puts a good deal of pressure on the focal reducer due to the twisting motion of the breech lock. Be warned! I have Turbo II for CY mounts no problem, shame the coatings on Turbo II are decent

      DONNIE LESSARD there is a dedicated switch on the lens. Zoom range is decreased, but it does well for an older lens. I'm sure you could get closer with macro rings.
