I used this technique to build a fake faux fireplace 5.5 feet tall and 5 feet wide with cardboard boxes! Honestly Its turning out amazing! I live in an old brownstone in NYC and it pairs perfectly with my apartment. Thank you sooo much. I'm going to send photos once its completely done. It took me 4 days so far to build the base with the boxes and essentially tape everything together. I laid out my tape and then put the joint compound over it. Then removed the tape and now I'm going in with a second coat of Joint compound and then using your technique to make it look old and rustic and I'll paint it while its simi wet as well. Thanks for the help!

I’ve seen so many of these faux-brick tutorials using this exact method but yours is the only one whose finished product actually looks like authentic brick. This is absolutely gorgeous. Your brick doesn’t just look like the standard brick wall either. It looks like the bricks have been there for ages. I can’t even begin to express how impressed I am. Your painting skills took it to the next level. I’m so inspired now. I have to try this. Thanks!

I agree this is one of the better ones. As she stated and I fully agree, its all about layering, stippling, and multipe different colors. With colors, 90% of people walk in the store and say "I need red." Or pick out a can of a "valentine's day red" haha or something, and coat the wall, haha. If you heard too, dont keeo the perfect right angels. or sharp lines, Brick is never that. Anyway, just a passing message, I am doing a wall for client and thought I would check a few others jobs. Be well

Hey, artist and faux painter here. Paint cos. often change the names but not the actual color formulas of paints. Find a friendly experienced employee or write or call corporate and they should be able to look up old color and find new name. Hope it works .

This is the absolutely first time I have ever left a comment on a anything, but I really love this idea! It's totally ingenious! It's exactly the look I've been wanting and looking for. I've see quite a few other ideas and I feel yours is the most realistic and high-end looking by far. One question? I looked all over to see what dimensions I should roughly tape off, and what size painter's tape made that size of grout or morter, as well as the general dimensions of the bricks themselves? Lastly, it looks like there may have been spots where some of the bricks were taped off smaller than the others, some of them 2 in a row. I like that, it looks more realistic as bricks are never exact copies and they break, chip, etc. Was this intentional then, and if so how did you decide where to put them? Thank you for taking the time to post. This video was very inspirational and made my day when I found it!

Try doing a coat of matte clear sealer on it, it will create an invisible coating that will protect it and keep any of the paint from getting wiped off when it's cleaned!
