Creation Images Photography is a comprehensive wilderness photography site that explores, captures and shares the beauty of God's Creation. Creation is beautiful, but can be harsh. Wild places will always force one to grow. It is the perfect place to face trials, test one's faith, and to develop perseverance. Not everyone can explore the wild. So this channel helps me to share my experiences.
There are three areas of focus:
1. Wilderness Hiking and Backpacking - These videos range from gear guides and reviews, snow caving, techniques for success in the back country, and just stories of my adventures.
2. Insights and Inspirations - From my "Mountain Meditations" series (which will turn into a book), to good decision-making, these videos focus on the lessons that I've learned by spending alone time deep in the wilderness.
3. In the Field Photography - Here you will find a happy blend of camera techniques and photography adventures,

MOTIVATION to go Photograph Landscapes
Thanks for a great real review and not just an unboxing. Happy to see how you enjoy the Jannu and winter camping. I have a Jannu myself and it’s a great tent for tough conditions. You have probably figured it out already but don’t worry about anything snapping when clipping on the poles. Some of them are very tight and I had the same feeling first time pitching the tent myself 😂 Being a Norwegian it’s very strange to see someone going that far in the snow not skiing 😱
I love it! And yes, I have been concerned about something snapping due to the tightness of the poles. Thanks for the reassurance. Multiple knee surgeries are keeping me from skiing anymore, so I just plod along on my snowshoes!
Too much to unpack in his video but let’s focus on the anchors for now. The way you’ve demonstrated it will pull out the peg if you’re unlucky. You can use the peg or a shovel to dig the trench and then also one for the guyline as it should have a straight path to the tent. Right now it would be pulled upwards first. Best instructions on this can be found if you search how to build a dead man anchor for mountaineering purposes. Of course if there’s not a lot of wind and the weather conditions allow the snow to solidify - even a poor anchor will be strong enough. Oh and these don’t look like Hilleberg pegs, more like MSR. Either one is fine but hope you didn’t pay the premium 😉 Cheers
Thanks for the tips! They are MSR anchors, and I understand what you mean about having time for the snow to solidify. Since I've made thhis video, I've had anchors melt out when the sun comes out, and that is no good. I'll have to do some research on the dead man anchor. I appreciate it!
And a fly… I can’t stand a fucking fly
Your channel doesn’t have much subs as it deserves this is a. Good channel keep up the work
Thank you! I appreciate the encouragement!
Don't die out there
I'll keep that in mind!
Don't die out there
I'll try!
Jannu...pronounced with a y...so it's said Yannu. 😊
Got it!
Thank you i was typing out the question u answered
Glad to hear it! Take it easy!
Gotta do what makes you happy brother. Be safe crazyman.....
Thanks! Heading up to go live in a snowcave soon. Hopefully I'll have a great video to go with it.
You got another subscriber! Be safe, stay warm, and be careful of the wildlife... I've been called stupid crazy.. At least you're just crazy!😂😂😂
❤what's for lunch😊👍 Nice set up👍
Thanks!
thoughts on the Nova 4 ?
Never used it. Have you?
@@creationimagesphotography I quite like it, but moatly for the size of it, haven't tasted it's deep cold capability
Looks cool. Stay safe, brother.🙏🏼💪🏼😇
Thank you, I will
Good job brother, keep it up. Turn on comments tho so people can encourage you, like what I am doing You got this
Thanks so much for the encouragement!
Great message! Hope you have a wonderful day friend!
Thank you! You too!
Great review, awesome tent. Like already mentioned, it's advisable to put the vestibule in the wind direction for maximum structural integrity. For my (1 person 4-season) Soulo, which has 12 guy lines, I've attached small sturdy elastic rubber bands to tie up the guy lines when not in use. In frost, elastic rubber might snap so perhaps elastic paracord would be a better option in winter time. As long as the 'solution' is mitten-proof of course. ;)
I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tips!
Where are you Dean??
Hi Brad. Working hard! Hope to get UA-cam back online soon.
Love the meal choice ha.
Thanks!
Your review has put me off the Jannu due to not much usable porch space , low ceiling , difficult setup. The Tarra I had, in contrast was easy to setup, tons of space, the only downside was weight. Would generally take the nammatj though as the Tarra overkill for solo use.
It is definitely tight, especially for two people.
Nothing is wrong that will matter in 100 years. Loving the nice fall days.
That's for sure!
Use mini caribiners to connect the guylines to the tent fixing points, takes a fraction of a second to clip and unclip, much tidier setting up and packing away. Its a no brainer. I have a Jannu
Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a shot.
Nice Job Friend! Beautiful video!
Thank you! Cheers!
In lowland Britain I’ve never heard of AMS before. Until you told us the cause I thought perhaps it was dehydration (though don’t suppose that would cause a bowel movement). Anyway, glad you survived it. Great video thank you. I enjoyed your philosophy in the one titled Essentialism as well btw!
Thank you for the comment. I've since gotten medication for AMS from my doctor that I take with me just in case.
This is one of my favorite videos. Such a good lesson.
Glad you liked it!
I guess you worked out now that the tent is designed to be guyed out before you clip the tent to the poles? You would have an easier time if you peg the tent down first then poles in, then guy it out then clip tent to poles, that's how its designed. all the best!
Thanks for the heads up! I hadn't actually figured that out, so I will have to try it on my next outing.
Fun video. Looks like the rough trip turned out to be such a blessing. Beautiful shots you got there!
Thanks so much! Hope you are well.
Crazy weather adds so much to the story of any hike in the mountains. And its almost guaranteed. Love the vid🙂
You are so right! Thanks for the compliment!
Hey friend! I am the one you met in Wind Rivers by Big Sandy Lake. Fun to connwct with you!
Hi again. Did you make it to the top of the pass for views into the Cirque of the Towers?
@@creationimagesphotography kind of. I made it up to a beautiful view of the cirque, and there was a ledge that was about 4 feet tall, and the wind was gusting so very strong that is was almost knocking me off my feet. I got worried being alone, so I tapped out and turned, for I was worried about making it all the way back. I am excited to see your pictures there though.
@@VRGetaway I'm sorry that you didn't get to capture footage of that view, but at least you got to experience it.
Nallo 4?
Not yet. You?
Wandering leads to the most incredible unforseen experiences. Love your insight on this. Thank you. New Subscriber. Ringing that bell patiently waiting for more good stuff🙂
Glad your are here. I think we will both get a lot out of each others work and insight.
That's a really interesting snow saw you have (cave carver). A friend of mine who taught me how to build igloo also has made some here in New Zealand. Thanks for the great video - it really looked like a fun adventure you had (other than being completely exhausted). Also, I know how challenging it can be to build one of these, and also film it, so well done.
I love that saw, and it was so easy to make once I found a large broken bandsaw blade. I imagine you could contact a machine or wood shop in your area. Your kind words mean a lot to me. Thanks!
Nice video, friend. The wind looked a bit exciting! It's not easy filming and also setting up your tent in cold winter and windy conditions.
You aren't kidding! There is something theraputic about that though. Everything just kind of focuses down, and you can concentrate on one thing at a time. Thanks for commenting and good luck on your journeys.
You might consider getting the 10.25mm poles. It should help with your worries about any lack of strength in the 9mm poles. I have the Allak 2 and replaced the 9mm poles with the 10.25mm. It made a world of difference in terms of tent strength and stability, as well as peace of mind
Great suggestion! Thanks!
So true, but not easy to do. Thanks for the reminder!
Glad it was helpful!
I like your message of concentrating on what you can be grateful for instead of the frustrations that happen daily.
Thanks!
Not just your photography is awesome, your UA-cam channel is too! My wife and I saw your truck with the "grab a picture" basket today at Adams Falls and got one of your pics as an unexpected and AWESOME souvenir from our trip to Colorado. Thank you so much! Keep up the great work! It was so wholesome to see that basket :D
😀 I am so glad that you liked my free photos! It means a lot to me to be able to share what I love to do with anyone who might enjoy it. Welcome to Colorado!
I was doing the Adams falls hike and grabbed one of your photographs in the parking lot. Neat channel.
😀 I was so excited when I got back from my backpacking trip and saw all of my photos had been picked up. I love being able to share what I love! Thanks for commenting.
Another great video. Another fantastic adventure! I liked your shots but I trust your eye for such things. Wonder message at the end. Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks Michael! As you know we are our own worst critics. I think there are three levels of "professional landscape photography: "magazine worthy" images that document the natural world, "popular" retail sales images that make beautiful prints, and then there are the world-class images with incredible subjects, compostion, color, weather, and lighting. Of course I am always reaching toward that last level.
I missed part one somehow. Yeah, I knew that looked like a lot of work in part 2.
Thanks for commenting! Part one was a demonstration on how I made my cave carving saw, and pult. You can see it at ua-cam.com/video/sMr2VJa3AuU/v-deo.html
What a great camp! Man, that must have been a killer though, to hike up and then all that digging. Nice though, no wind blowing against a tent all night up there, I bet you slept awesome! Especially after all that work. Sometimes, the perfect shots don't happen. It's just the way it goes. I went out the other night to shoot the Milky Way the first time this season and got a goose egg. Getting out there and having the same great experience either way is always a win. You got a great pano and a memory to last a lifetime. What did the vast majority do, while you were out there living?.... Sitting around, getting fat and being lazy watching tv. Just another night, they'll forget. What a great camp and hike! A few good photos are just bonuses to living anyway. Thanks for sharing.
That means a lot to me! I know exactly what you mean about that goose egg! But I never return home with a tally in the lose column (even if I don't get the shot I was hoping for), for exactly the reasons that you listed. When you and I are out in the "real" world, we are truly living. That is worth all of the effort! Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment.
Norwegian Xplorer has some good Videos about winter camping
👏👏great vid an very well done in brutal conditions! Trying to pack my Nammatj 3GT in that situation doesn’t bear thinking about 😂
Dam....bluddy hell fella...looked like a right cold struggle. Weldone for not panicking...even tho it looked like you were overcome by it all. Good experience to learn from tho.....
Amazing. How much would you charge to build one for me? And to pull me up in the Polk of course
No comment . . .
Wow That takes a lot of effort. It shows on the way up. I hope you can do more of this in the future. The video and music timing is great. Keep safe.
Thank you, I will
This looks like an awful lot of work, but looks like you enjoy it.
Glad you noticed! It's not just that I enjoy it - I NEED it!
This experience and video is one of the best I've ever had. I'd love to hear your comments!
Good videography in what I'm sure was difficult conditions. I really liked how the candle ember faded into the night time star near the end of the video. Nicely done. Keep making more videos like this!
Thanks! Sometimes the footage just fits together by happy accident!
Absolutely beautiful images, Dean!
Thank you! This one was tough to gather footage, but it was so worth it!
Great video Keep them coming!
Thanks, Brad! Hope you are enjoying retirement!
Very interesting video! And those colors!!
Thanks a lot! My UA-cam journey has been slow and difficult. These kind of experiences aren't exactly the kind of thing I can release every week. Learning to deal with the camera and audio in those contintions is super hard too. But it is coming slowly. Thanks again for watching!
@@creationimagesphotography Yeah and unfortunately, if you don't release videos at least weekly, your channel will never grow. Not even slowly. If you want something to happen from youtube, you'll have to include videos of something else too where you can upload at least weekly to your channel. It will be your only way.
@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism Good food for thought. I am struggling with the balance of putting out high quality/interest videos and just cranking out content that no one will watch. Maybe I should do some shorts?
