Why Do People hate the Wii U?

Thanks for watching my video and hearing my thoughts on the whole Wii U matter! Personally, even though it sold super badly, I still have a lot of fun and amazing memories with the console and it’s so sad more people haven’t played it! I wish I still had my Wii U right now, but I sold it before the switch came out so I could use it as money towards the switch! Bahaha Join my discord! discord.gg...

Jesus loves you!
Don't forget to predict an action-oriented game centered on Geno (from Mario RPG). He deserves the same treatment as Snufkin, but with combat.
That would honestly be so cool! But I’m not too sure that’s gonna happen ngl!
Jesus loves you!
Nice video! I agree with you on everything except the 3D Mario. I don't think we're gonna hear about it until the fall. I'd like to be wrong though
Fair! Honestly I’m not too sure myself I’m just assuming bahaha
I hope Nintendo Direct will be good
I do too bro! Bahaha
Unless they are getting the switch for this game alone how aren’t they used to 30 fps?
Nice job
Why are people like this!? This is a remake of a classic that we wait for 8 years & now that we got it, the fans argue over the new music, the graphics are too shiny & the game doesn't run on 60FPS. ...Seriously?
I haven't been paying attention to the twitter scene so I don't know if anyone has brought up this point, but biggest argument I could see for at least questioning the drop to 30fps would be for the mechanics. Paper Mario may be turn based, but it's very heavily focused on timing action commands. For normal attacks this doesn't really matter, but for tight windows like the super guard, their ability to balance a mechanic's difficulty has been effectively cut in half. Superguards used to be a 3 frame window, which would be 1.5 frames at 30fps. So I don't know if they made it 50% harder or 33% easier. The same could be asked about power bounce in its later bounces. That said, though... the problem *only* applies to the high skill moves that had very low frame windows. They're more of a show of skill and mastery over the game than anything else, optional risk-reward mechanics meant to offer you a new way to approach battles if you're up for it. And even then, it's not like the moves were completely revamped, they've just had their frame windows changed slightly in certain niche edge cases. When you look at it that way, it's a really minor complaint even at its strongest point. As for the graphical side of things, I know you already talked about this but the paper style doesn't need 60fps at all. And if I'm being honest... doesn't it make more sense for a paper world to have a bit of a snappy art style to it?
Dope video! I gotta my favorites were Splatoon, Smash, and Mario Maker
R.I.P. first SPLATOON game i haven't played it but it's been a fun journey.
True that
Legit this is the same with there merchandise
Great Video Shu. Keep it up dude!
Comment idk
I love the Wii U the same way I love the PS Vita. But these days, it's not like the GameCube and Dreamcast where it still gets homebrew, new indie games and ports, etc. and the ones I had there are playable elsewhere. I do love the Wii U, but I think anyone who wants to go into it new these days will be left disappointed. Unless they want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X or Sonic BOOM Rise of Lyric. I'd say it's great, but also a "product of its time" to no small degree.
One thing it still does better is local multiplayer. Having the tablet be player ones screen, and the TV for player two is WAY better than forcing us to dock a tablet and split a ridiculously small joycon set between two people or buy another one.
I'm just hoping this'll lead to an all-new, original, Paper Mario RPG, that brings everything good from the first 2 games back. Just my list here: -NPCs (and enemies) that vary and deviate from their original, standard counterparts. -Partner"s", with an "s". -A story that's actually interesting. -Writing that doesn't involve a reference to, or characters acknowledging, the fact that it's 'Paper' Mario). -Just, less focus on the 'paper' aspect, whether it's the writing or the environments, but just, like, reserve it for the characters. 'Story Book' Paper Mario is like, actually peak. -Etc.
they're probably going to drag their feet on it since the financial success of the remake is further evidence that they don't have to make new (risky) content to make huge profit, due to so many fans trying to relive their nostalgia (even though they'll never relive the first-time-playing experience that they're chasing) the modern business model for established developers will place more emphasis on remaking/porting old, popular games while pushing out a new title here and there to maintain relevance, unlike the early 2000s when most titles were new games
good video, but a better argument would have been if you pointed out all the actual gameplay improvements made to the game. gameplay matters more than graphics and story when it comes to a game. there's quality of life improvements and they even made the backtracking less painful. it'd be hard to drop the game over the framerate alone after knowing that the gameplay itself is just objectively better.
True! My bad haha
I say this as a Sonic fan. Paper Mario fans, stop acting like us. This is OUR thing. Go find your own. Y'all are taking one tiny little flaw about the game and making it bigger than it actually is, and using it to say the entire game is ruined. THATS OUR THING. THATS WHAT WE DO. WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO BE US?
Please I hope not. No ports. Just want to see new games
It’s really looking like a port right now haha
You have such a positive energy. I love this video! Thank you
Thank you! Haha
5:14 This might be or might not be the case, but since nintendo is a Japanese company there's a chance. Muji in Japanese can be written as 無字. 無 no/nothing 字 letter/character. It's most likely a placeholder, like if they called it in english Unnamed. I don't know though might just be a coincidence.
Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s a placeholder! People on Twitter have been saying the actual code name for the Nintendo switch 2 is ounce!
I'm more... disappointed by it. I want to support the first alright decision for this franchise in 20 years, but I still have the original, and I think it still looks fine. The presentation overhaul is very much a: "I sure would hope the game looks better on newer hardware"... but that's all they really have. And it causes the game to run worse. Woah. I'm missing nothing by skipping the remake (aside from saving money). One of the most influential games for me and its remake leaves me indifferent. It's odd to me. We could have gotten balance changes (the community has 20 years of hindsight on what's worth using or not), a new Chapter/actual postgame, a new Partner, new Badges (not just a glorified option for the old soundtrack), actual QoL (like Badge Sets that can be saved and loaded as needed, like a romhack of friggin' PM64)... Instead, I saw people getting excited for... On the fly Partner-switching. I imagine these people didn't have a d-pad on their Gamecube controllers. ...Am I just jaded?
Honestly your take is completely understandable!
Lol 30fps in a game that looks like the best paper I’ve ever seen? That’s just reaching hard, like 60fps is sharp, but on a game like this it barely even matters.
i'm happy japan got these controlers cuz only games u can play w them is this game and the clasic ones u get from nintendo online. also in my opinion they are straight up ugly, compared to cartrige
The Enemy Octoling from SPLATOON should be a racer Sanitized Octolings as well.
That would be cool! I’d love to see that as well!
@@pkshuuu Personally i was hoping that can happen so stupid baby mario baby luigi baby daisy baby peach and. baby rosalina can be replaced.
Yeah I'm real surprised they haven't added Kirby or Captain Falcon. Considering both have been represented already via karts or trailers. Also the Mother protags are such an out there idea, but I'd be down for it
True true! Okay it’s true that the mother protags are SUPER out there but it would be so awesome to see them! Like they deserve so much more screen time brooo
Forget about Mario being bland and Pokémon’s downfall, 3d land Mario Kart 7, dark moon, dream team, and all mainline Pokemon games on 3ds are fantastic
the switch is like nine years old... chill
I would probably buy the game for the Switch 2 and since I have just about all the modern Nintendo consoles Wii, Wii U, Switch, 2DS XL well the 2DS XL is just a 3DS so yay I would buy the Switch 2 just to play the enhanced version.
Fair enough! Botw really is an amazing game so i get that!
Yay I just hope there extra content on the Switch 2 version of it to @@pkshuuu
So it's basically a watered down NES Remix? Where's our Famicom controllers? The second one has a mic.
Yep you got that right! Lmaooo
My personal nickname for the Wii U is “Nintendo’s best mistake” Hmm… you know, hacking my 3DS did get me playing it again, maybe I should look into doing the same to my old Wii U.
LOL that nickname! Also you should totally hack your Wii U! There’s so many amazing games to play! And for free too lmao!
wouldnt O stand for the O-led console and maybe its an updated version for it?
Most likely no! It wouldn’t make sense for a version of botw to run specifically on an oled since an oled performs the same as a regular switch!
I've said this in another video, and i'll say it again: all i care about right now is to play the gosh darn game! Yes, i would prefer it to run 60fps like the original, but at least im not flipping my parents and crying and pouting like a baby over a downgrade of fps. And the worst part? Some people on the internet shame others for not minding the downgrade. I sware, the media is always overextended whether they're right or not!
Real!
Dope video. If they put this on Switch 2 I may get it. I always wanted to try Zelda
Fair enough! I prolly won’t get it cuz I’ve already played botw it was cool but it’s not like a game for me ngl
Another good video pal keep up the good work! did you react to those trailers yet?
I forgot about those trailers ngl! I’ll do them soon! Maybe! Haha
The only people that hate WiiU are: Ppl that never owned one OR Nintendo haters (the ones that loved that "Console Wars" bullshit, called Nintendo a company for little kids and, for some reason, are quiet af now That Nintendo is dominating the market 😂)
I love Nintendo but I didn't get the Wii U and there's a big reason why: the games simply weren't that good. Two major issues I had with the Wii U's lineup: 1. A lack of open 3D adventure games 2. A lot of entries felt like safe, rehashy feeling sequels to games we already played on Wii, DS, and 3DS So for the first point, I grew up on the N64 and GC with games like Mario 64/Sunshine, Banjo-Kazooie, OoT, and Metroid Prime. Stuff that had vast 3D environments for you to explore. Sandbox platformers, action-adventure games, Metroidvanias, those are the types of genres I gravitate to. So... where were those types of experiences on the Wii U? Mario completely abandoned all vestiges of sandbox platformer gameplay in favor of being a fully linear platformer. Metroid skipped the Wii U entirely. And BotW was delayed into being a cross gen title which the vast majority bought on Switch. So what was left? Xenoblade Chronicles X, a side entry in a niche ARPG IP (and one that I've felt really lacks the Nintendo charm and quirkiness, so I haven't really gotten into), and WW/TP remakes. That's pretty much it. Are those the kind of games that are really going to draw in people like me that also grew up during those era, or to people on other platformers that liked more modern experiences like Skyrim? Those kinds of genres and their audiences were WOEFULLY neglected on the Wii U. As for the rehashes, it seems like their idea of "adventure games" on the Wii U was NSMB-esque linear platformers. There were multiple games like that. You had NSMB itself with NSMBU, then 3D Mario disappointingly followed the NSMB approach and rather than making an ambitious and unique entry like what Sunshine and Galaxy was, it just iterated on 3D Land in a very NSMB-esque fashion (3D Land and 3D World really are the NSMB of 3D Marios). Then you had Tropical Freeze which did very little to build on Returns, just throwing in some alternate characters (whose abilities weren't really even needed much in game) and swimming, while STILL feeling like a regression from the original trilogy because they still did not have the buddy moves or Animal Buddies not named Rambi. Kirby didn't get a main entry, but he did get another NSMB-esque sequel to Canvas Curse in the form of Rainbow Curse. And Woolly World basically just comes off as Nintendo saying to Good Feel "Do Kirby's Epic Yarn again, but this time make it Yoshi", which I guess is technically new but in spirit just feels like they're again phoning it in and not really doing something new and creative. So yeah, let's not pretend like the Wii U's lineup was some masterpiece that every Nintendo fan needs to love. There were a few bangers here and there, Mario Kart 8 was really good, and I presume Splatoon and Mario Maker were too as I enjoyed their sequels on the Switch, but it felt like for every good game there were 2 mediocre ones. I just felt like there was too much uninspired mediocrity and not enough of that Nintendo quirkiness and creativity to really buy in to this console.
I love Nintendo and got a Wii U, yet I kinda hated the console. It's not bad, but I believe a console should live or die by its games, and the games on the Wii U just didn't do anything for me. SM3DW, Smash U, Woolly World and NSMBU were all fun games but felt generic and lacked any identity, like Nintendo settled for the games just being good. I also wasn't a fan of Mario Maker, Splatoon, or DKC Tropical Freeze for different reasons. Then ya had other games like Star Fox Zero, Mario Party 9/10, and Colour Splash that should've been great, but were held back due to bad design decisions. Like Boltstrike said, there was also a lack of variety in genres, and a lot of Wii U games felt like rehashes of older games on other consoles (The same argument people use against the Switch funnily enough). The only game I truly liked was Pikmin 3, and even then it removed some features from Pikmin 2 that I really cherished. If that was it though, I wouldn't hate the console. But, the Wii U put Nintendo in the red for a long time, making them struggle more financially, plus the Wii U came at a time where I desperately needed entertainment, and while every other Nintendo console had provided that in the past, the Wii U failed at it miserably
Bro great video but from the nice innocent intro i wouldnt expect you to be cussing later in the video. Nothing wrong with it but maybe that may be keeping youtube from serving it to your desired audience as you keep growing. Just a thought but keep it up!
True! I never even thought of that!
Real man😭 the new switch needs more personality.
Right???
great video bro :)
Thank you!!!
@@pkshuuu np i also love yokai watch so you got yourself a sub :), also if you have a hacked switch there is a fan translation to english
I feel that I grew up on this as well and I took forever for me to beat ge ice guy but it was a real struggle trying to figure out how to beat the spider boss😂
BRO LITERALLY SAME!!! Like those bosses were SO HARD AND FOR NO REASON 😭😭😭
@@pkshuuuI sure gotta sympathize with you on that boss the giant ice face was annoying and it also reminded me of Glalie from Pokémon as well.
i dont hate it
Nice video. Personally Switch Attach is a trash name. If they name it that it'll be the Wii U all over again. Also as soon as you posted this a new Zelda leak has come out
Bro literally! I’ll make a video on the Zelda leak tomorrow lmaooo also yeah the switch attach isn’t really.. a great name at all lmaoooo
Another good video pal keep up the good work! and great they are making a live-action moana perfect! Another cash grab by Disney! 😡💢
Lol I didn’t even know a live action Moana was on the way! That’s certainly interesting
@@pkshuuu No it's not interesting it's a terrible remake of a good movie.
Source?
The official nintendo website? You can go to the Japanese nintendo store online for the physical deluxe version of the game and it shows the exclusive famicom controllers, you can also just look it up on google lol
Main reasons I hated the Wii U were the following: Lack of 3rd party support Cringe ads Miiverse was almost Twitter levels of toxic You needed the gamepad for a lot of these games meaning if it broke you couldn’t play Splatoon or Mario Maker The Gamepad battery also didn’t last long at times. Honestly only reason why people like it now is because it’s easy to mod and the people who grew up with it are old enough to defend it online. The Switch is just superior in almost every way only problems I have with the Switch are no messaging and the Joycons have a chance of drifting when you buy them. Is this comment going to piss people off? Yes. Do I care? No because I wanted to say my peace.
Fair enough!
people don’t hate the console, they hate the era it represents. the lack of games. the awful and cringe marketing. the over reliance on gimmicks. the genuinely awful year that was 2016 where every nintendo game releases is one of the lowest rated video games ever. missed potential. the fact the switch is literally just a better wii u in terms of hardware kinda says it all.
Some people genuinely really do hate the console! So this video was really only geared towards them and my opinion on the subject since they despise the Wii U so bad bahaha, but I hey what you mean about the games!
@@pkshuuu ah that’s silly of them. also cool Ranking of Kings profile pic
Forgive me for this rant, it's all just my opinion, but. I hated the Wii U for... A lot of reasons. The Wii U just felt kinda soulless and corporate to me, like yeah it had the Mii plaza and there was music which was nice, but it was mostly just white/grey whereas the Switch pops out with more colours. Also it takes the Wii U much longer to boot up games than it did with the Switch, or even the Wii/3DS which sucked. It felt like they phoned it in a bit after the Wii's success. There was only a handful of good games, with a LOT of them not being good or exciting like the Mario Party games, Star Fox, and many of the third party games. And even the good ones felt kinda bland and uninspired like SM3DW, NSMBU, and Smash U, whereas a good majority of the Switch games are just... great. I'll admit the Wii U did have some neat side features, but I never got into them since I mostly just play games. And I'm sorry but I very strongly disagree with the NSO vs VC view. I may be alone with this, but I actually found the NSO better than the VC in every single way. The emulators on the NSO are better, especially comparing the NES and N64 emulators which looked dimmed and had input lag on the Wii U. The NSO also has rewind features for some consoles AND had proper save states, which I heard (Not experienced) were annoying on the Wii U. Though the VC had a bigger library of games, you had to pay for each of those games individually, whereas the NSO you pay a set amount and you get access to ALL of the games. Now yes, the NSO expansion can get pricey with $50 each year, but because of the unlimited access it works out way cheaper overall. If I were to pay for all of the games on the Wii U VC that I wanted to play from the NSO, I'd be paying well over $400, over 4 years of the NSO + Expansion service. Because it's subscription based, I've played so dozens of games on the NSO that I never would've bought on the VC because of how expensive it'd be. I may not own them, but that doesn't take away from the fact I played them. The VC might have a better library, but that doesn't mean much if I can only get a handful of that library at a reasonable price. I'll also concede that without the Wii U, there'd be no Switch. But that doesn't excuse many of the Wii U's faults, and I think it's unfair to attribute all of the Switch's successes to the Wii U just because it was its predecessor. It's like saying a child's accomplishments should be given/owed to the parents just because they birthed them. While many Switch games are just Wii U ports, some of them have pretty beefy expansions like Pikmin 3 or SM3DW that make them much better. And even the similar alternative/sequel games like Smash Ultimate, Origami King, Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Party and many others were much better than their Wii U counterparts. On top of that, the Switch has a plethora of unique exclusives that again, I personally found more fun than what the Wii U had to offer. This isn't all to undercut what the Wii U did, it wasn't all bad and it had a lot going for it, I bought it back in 2012 and had some fun with it, but couldn't get hooked on it and ended up playing other stuff instead. It actually almost put me off of gaming, and that all turned around when the Switch came out. Again, just my opinion, but there's a reason the Switch sold over 10x the Wii U, and I don't think it was just because of the poor marketing
No I know! I just said that there are some people who call the console horrible because it sold badly which isn’t really true imo! Also I don’t think it’s unfair to attribute the switch’s success to the Wii U! In a way it is true because if the Wii U never happened the switch would have never happened which you already said! The whole parent and child analogy you made was true so in a way we’re both right! Also you’re right about all of the virtual console titles costing money individually, but they did have a lot more diversity of virtual console titles on the Wii U! They had over like seven consoles of virtual console titles to choose from while the switch only has like four or five!
Also in a way the Nintendo switch feels soulless to me! Like don’t get me wrong there are a lot of great games and all, but there were so many quality of life features just robbed from the console! Like we have no themes, no eshop music, no miiverse, we don’t have anything that really makes the switch stand out besides it’s games even though the games are supposed to make it stand out I just wish there was more… creativity you know?
Same. The Wii U's lineup felt so phoned in. Especially their platformers. So many rehashy linear platformers that did little to distinguish themselves from their predecessors, I would even go as far to say that several of these games could've passed for DLC instead of actual new entries. My biggest issue though, is that they pretty much neglected 3D adventure games, especially ones with any kind of openness or exploration. Like for me, I grew up on the N64 and GC with stuff like Mario 64/Sunshine, Banjo-Kazooie, OoT, and Metroid Prime, and the Wii U offered very little in that sort of vein. They had planned for BotW in 2015, but thanks to delays it ended up being cross gen and most people just bought it on the Switch. Then you had Xenoblade Chronicles X, which is a side entry in a niche ARPG IP (even on the Switch Xenoblade still hasn't sold super well), and WW/TP remakes. Slim pickings even by the Wii U's already dry standards, it was definitely a sad time to like those kinds of genres.
@@pkshuuu "The whole parent and child analogy you made was true so in a way we’re both right!" No, no you're not both right, that's not how it works. You only get credit for your own merits, you don't get credit for what your successor does. At best you get a mention for being an influence, but it's incorrect to say that the successor's merits are also the predecessor's if they did not do the same thing.
At least you lot get something, mate. In Europe we trully get jack... For the Japanese, there is Japan, America and a massive void, apparently
Jesus, I’m sorry you guys didn’t get anything, I honestly wonder why that is…
Just got a Wiiu 2 days ago as my graduation gift, and i was evwn shocked to find out that it was the EXACT same one my dad returned to Gamestop when I was 11 years old. 😢

@@pkshuuu Thanks. I got Nintendo Land, and then when I used it the second day, I should you not, I see SSB4 and Splatoon (FUUL GAMES BTW) preinstalled on there. mind you, the console was factory reset. I'm not mad btw Also, thank you. :)
I don't get it I love it tbh
Same!! It’s such a great console!
Same because they had ports for every game before it. I have respect for that
