Installing Laminate Flooring in Our Whole House! #EP35
In this video, we wrap up the inside! We finish the fireplace, kitchen backsplash, and put down the flooring! This was a big task to take on by myself, but I wanted to surprise Chels while she was out of town. The boys and I almost got it done in time! #construction #housebuild #flooring

Creating a Custom Range Hood! #EP34
Переглядів 488Місяць тому
In this video, we build the centerpiece of the room. This range hood was a huge part of our kitchen and tying the room together. It is burnished Venetian plaster with an soapstone sealer and rift sawn white oak beam. This took over 100 hours to craft, but we could not be happier with the result! #farmhouse #kitchen #plaster The products we used were all by Firmolux. The plaster was Marmorino Be...

Grinding and Sealing the Concrete Floors! #ep31

Grinding the floors was very difficult. I used and 8" grinder and cup wheel to grind 3,500 s.f. It took roughly 12 hours of hard work but was worth it in the end. We wanted to seal the floors to stop any chance of radon coming up through the floor or vapor that could disturb the flooring. We used a product called Radon Seal. This stuff was super easy to use and didn't have the harsh smell that ...

    So, let me preface this with I do not work in the trades haha. I do own some land and have been looking into DIYing my home build. Because quite frankly I just don’t have the money to pay some or wish to take out a loan. My question is, how do I gain the minimum necessary knowledge to set up and pour my own foundation to my home? Where would I go? Who do I talk to about acquiring the knowledge to do something like this?

      I watched a lot of UA-cam videos from poured wall companies, studied the code book, read forums on best practices or how to overbuild things, and the best is to make a relationship with a local builder. It might take a bit to find one but if you can find a friend of a friend who’s in the trades they can answer most of your questions!

    Had this issue a few years ago, i was hired at a landscaping company. We were placing rock in a companies garden path/walkway and i had a steady pace I would load up the front and once a few rocks were lined up at the back I would go drop off and spread making sure it was a good depth before moving on. I was working the left side while 2 guys worked the right side they were loading up super heavy and weren’t no where near as far as I was to completing my side. They had massive piles right next to each other, not spread and would constantly stop to take a breather. The boss comes out and shits on me for not filling up my wheelbarrow, calls me lazy and proceeds to start filling my wheelbarrow As he’s filling I start telling him to take a look at my section how full it is and already spread out and to realize how far ahead i am. I point out that if we were all properly using our tools we could possibly have finished by now, he’ll maybe even gotten paid more by not having a third guy. He stops…. Looks at everything… takes a minute… and says you’re right we don’t need a third guy…. You’re fired… call hq to set up your last check Lmao i was like wtf bro i was so confused cause it sounded like he was gonna be rational I still load my wheelbarrow this way, just because it’s a labor intense job does not mean you need to kill yourself doing it. “Steady pace wins the race and always wear a back brace” lol

    • @RathburnRanch
      @RathburnRanch Місяць тому

      There’s a very large range depending on market. You can find some old school guys that’ll probably do it for $5, most companies in our area including us, would be somewhere between $8-10. Remember, concrete is not something you want to go with the lowest bid on. Ask the company what measures they take to insure they give you a high quality slab.

Where can I get cheap concrete. I was quoted $120 a yard or $10-$20 a square foot. I wanna build a sturdy structure and then bury it under earth. Some people said it would be cheaper to use used shipping containers but you still need some concrete for reinforcement because containers can collapse under intense weight, they said they are only strongest at its 4 corners and the sides and roof can cave in eventually after intense weight from earth pushing on it for some time
