Loading the Proprioceptive System Hands
Bringing awareness to the muscles of the hands improves feedback to the brain for effective motor planning and muscle grading, especially with resistive activities. Using resistive activities strengthens the hands and increases internal awareness of how the hands are moving for improved dexterity.

Meaning & Purpose to Help Children Become Their Best Selves

Everyone has fears. Children are the same. As parents, we have a strong desire to protect our children, keep them feeling safe, and also avoid the things that we know trigger fear. But as a parent, it is also important to guide them through their fear in small increments, show them how to take things slowly without becoming overwhelmed, and to never give up. As we show our children that it's no...
Worry Brain vs Bravery Brain

When I am working with kids during a therapy session, I always teach them that they have a worry brain vs a bravery brain. Their worry brain holds them back and their bravery brain pushes them towards success. When they tell themselves they can do - they always do! But I don't teach them this until I know that they have built some motor and play skills that allow them to be able to do something...

Respecting the Worry Brain
Переглядів 82 місяці тому
In the process of building bravery and resilience, it's also importance to respect a child's fears as they move out of their comfort zone. Anxiety does not respond well to compliance demands. Children who are anxious often get overwhelmed and cannot push through. So respecting the "Worry Brain" as you are growing the "Bravery Brain" is critical for success.
How to Grow Your Bravery Brain
Переглядів 192 місяці тому
Worry and fear are a natural part of human existence. Some of us are more prone to it than others and some of us can easy push past it and go full speed into an activity. But for children who can't, it's important to foster development of a child's "Bravery Brain" - This is the part of their mind that says "I can do it!" "It is possible". Having this skill helps children move from a place of fe...

      Ideally, 3-4 times per week. I like to recommend that parents do them as a warm-up before doing homework or even in between completing work for two different subjects if homework time is challenging.

    Learning this word is kinda breaking my heart. Though I didn’t know it until maybe a week ago, I have suffered from dysgraphia for my entire life. (I am 30years old) growing up I had terrible hand writing, my teacher constantly complained to me that they could not read my had writing. (Hell I couldn’t read it) I was able to remedy this to a point through years of deliberate practice. Now my handwriting is legible if I don’t write too fast but it is far from “elegant”. The other symptoms of my dysgraphia I have been much less successful in remedying, such as my propensity to misspell words, and misuse punctuation, my difficulty in understanding when to end sentences and structure paragraphs, my reduced capacity to notice mistakes in my writing, the vast gap between my verbal acuity and my ability to express myself in writing, my strong emotional aversion to communicating through writing, and a number of other difficulties presented by my disability.

    • @SensationalachievementsOT
      @SensationalachievementsOT Рік тому

      It's hard to struggle with something no one put a name to when you were young. Dysgraphia has many subtypes. It sounds like you were able to work on the motor part but still struggle with elements of dyslexic dysgraphia, which would account for the spelling, difficulty recognizing errors, etc. Reading specialists who have a background in working with people with dyslexia symptoms can help with this if it's something you want to address. Sometimes even if you are a good reader, you can struggle with pulling spelling and sentence organization from memory during the writing process. Hope this is helpful!

    • @SensationalachievementsOT

      Yes there are depending on the type of dysgraphia you have. I put up a few simple videos of small exercise sequences but there are many combinations if you can identify if you have motor, spatial, or dyslexic dysgraphia.

    • @SensationalachievementsOT
      @SensationalachievementsOT 3 роки тому

      Elder Phillip J Nelson I will add another video about vision, space, and writing activities for you from my Facebook live webinars. And yes positioning will be very important for your arm if you get arm pain or have trouble coordinating your finger movement. I haven’t seen a correlation of height to dysgraphia but certainly could exacerbate symptoms if you don’t set your desk up for support
