Hello there, my name is Anja, and I'm a fashion and textile designer based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Designing My Dream Wedding Dress PART 2: Creating a Prototype and Making Pattern Adjustments
Welcome back to my wedding dress journey! 🤍🌸👰♀️
In this exciting Part 2, I’m diving into the hands-on process of turning my wedding dress design into a real-life prototype. Starting with the paper pattern, I show you step-by-step how I use real measurements to sketch out the bodice, create my custom bell-shaped skirt, and add the puffed bishop sleeve for that elegant, romantic touch. Watch as I transfer my design onto fabric, using an old bedsheet to test fit and flow before committing to the final materials.✨
In this video, you’ll see:
✨ Drafting and adjusting the pattern to ensure every detail matches my vision.
✨ Cutting, pinning, and stitching the prototype for a perfect fit.
✨ Making key adjustments to the neckline, open back, and train to bring my sketch to life.
If you missed Part 1, I recommend checking it out to see my inspiration and design notes that guided this stage. Be sure to subscribe and stay tuned for Part 3, where we’ll shop for fabrics and start sewing the final dress!

Your design looks gorgeous girl ❤
Thank you so much!! That is so sweet 🌸
which app do you use for that ? i mean in which u are making sketch of dress
They were done in Procreate o my iPad ☺️ It's my favourite software to use for sketching 🌸
@ okay thanks 💗…btw sending good wishes to your upcoming new life💌
How would you incorporate an elastic material around the waist? How would that change your measurements to still get a snug look around the hips?
Hello there, great questions, so I wouldn't incorporate an elastic material, I would just add an elastic band in the waist covered with the same material as the pants are... just like you have it in your PJs or sweatpants. 🌸 With that said, I would have to make the area around the hips whiter (usually it's nice to make it 1/3 bigger) so that then I would be able to add that elastic band and put the pants up and down. I hope that makes sense and that I explained it okey ☺️
excited to see how it turns out !
ooo thank you so much 🌸 yeah me too ☺️
I think the last one is the best in terms of design and the lace will add elegance and I suggest addition of some pearls to bring the lace and the silhouette together adding a touch of fun too and pearls and lace are timeless. I think you can also add angel sleeves for a more angelic and beautiful effect and seriously I'm amazed that you created such wonderful designs.
Thank you very much for you comment ☺️ I really appreciate it 🌸 Those are some nice suggestions 🤍
Keep it up girl 😊😊❤
ooo thank you 🌸 that's so sweet

Just subscribed, very excited to see how it turns out!
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, me too 🌸
Can't wait to see it finished! ❤❤❤❤❤
ooo I am also so excited☺️ I really hope it looks like in a sketch
What fabric r u thinking abt maybe rawsilk it’s considered the fanciest and most luxurious fabric where im from
I think I will use Satin for the base of the dress - to give it a bit of shine and that beautiful flowy feel and Organza for the sleeves - for the sheer moment and contrast 🤍 I am really excited 🌸
I just got engaged a little over 2 weeks ago, and I'm having the same problem. The dresses I really love that have nice fabric are so expensive 0_0 I'm more on the beginner-intermediate side of sewing, but I want to make my own dress too 😁 I'm excited to watch your videos!
ooo so exciting, congratulations 🌸🌸 Yeah, I completely understand. It's very difficult to find a nice dress for a decent price... I hope you will like the content and that I will be able to help you 😉☺️
Yes, i would like to see it, maybe you can share the patterns you use for or show how to start from scratch. We have very similar taste 😊

Oooh thank you so much, that is so nice to hear ☺️ Oh really? Congrats 🌸 I am sure it's beautiful
Thanks! It helps a lot
Super happy to hear that, glad it was useful
1. Dont use pins on certain fabrics like silk and aarin as they'll mark. Do you the clips. 2. Most patterns have a seam allowance but if you're copying a garment then do remember to add it on. 3. Whats she's talking about is tacking or basting - same thing just people use different words. There's no special thread, it's normal sewing cotton. Use something that contrasts so it's easier to see to remove and yes, for more difficuly seams like set in sleeves or slippy fabrics, tacking is very useful. Just remember to tack inside the seam allowance so you don't leave holes in silk and satin fabrics.
Hello there, thank you very much for your comment.🌸 I really appreciate your thoughts and I love that this channel is becoming so full of knowledge.
Pattern companies are different. Most patterns in the U.S. include seam allowances. Also, read the pattern!
Thanks for the tip!
Yes of course, it is just a general tip for beginners.☺️ And sure, some patterns have the seam allowance included and some don't - that's why it is important to be careful 🌸✨
I am 68 and still have a sewing passion. Your video reminded me when I was at secondary school learning how to make dresses.
Hello there 🌸 that is so nice to hear, haha thank you for your beautiful comment ✨ Yeah, sewing and fashion are wonderful
Once again, all good points.🎉
Thank you so much 🌸 really appreciate it
Yes! The first skirt I made in "Girl Scouts " took about 4 months to finish.
That is great, a skirt is also a great beginners project - I agree a 100% ✨
So glad to see a young person being so enthusiastic about sewing. I've done it my whole life!
Haha ooo that is so nice 🌸 thank you very much. Waw, that is amazing, I am sure you have so much knowledge and little tips and tricks to share ✨

haha right 🌸 I keep seeing them everywhere😅 Hope you liked the video
So cool! :)
Thank you☺️ happy you like it 🌸
Very cute!! ♡
Thank you very much ☺️✨
get a loop turner for turning straps!! they're a few bucks at a craft store but superrr helpful for straps! another thing i like to do it use a safety pin too, i'll pin it to one end and feed it through the entire loop!
ohh thank you so much for the suggestion 🌸 I really appreciate it - Will definitely look for it ✨
This is extremely cool but my first thought was Toyota makes sewing machines?? Also just from doing a backstitch on the first row when you start you can just sew it straight and it will crinkle. (Sorry if I’m not making sense I’m just curious and don’t know the wording for it)
Haha yeah they do - funny right😅 and the fact that it is pink 🌸 yeah you can make a backstitch at the start and at the end of the link, or you can make it just at the start and then make this zig zag pattern and make the backstitch only at the end of the fabric. (I hope that makes sense)
They look so good 😊💙
thank you baby 🤍 really appreciate it
Класс!! Воспоминания из детства.. моя мама так же продевала нить в своей машинке и шила мне вещи в школу
👍🌸✨🪡
Omg they are so cute😭perfect for summer🥰
haha yeah, thank you ☺️ happy you like them 🌸
🌸🌸🌸
Nice 💙👍
Thank you 🌸 really means a lot
love it!!
haha thank you 🤍
Overlock the edges first if you want to press the seam open surely
really? Thank you for sharing 🌸. I was taught to do it afterwards.
Nice tips 💙
haha Thank you very much, glad you like them 🌸
To make it easier, you can put a piece of baking paper on top of the "fuzzy stuff" before you sew it. It can easily be removed when you've finished. Edit: Oh, I forgot to say: Great idea!
Ooo thank you, that is so nice of you. I really appreciate the tip ☺️ Will definitely use it the next time.🌸
@@gratus.studio.anjajaklin 😊👍
you are supposed to trim down the first seam allowance to make the french seam small and elegant
Yes. But maybe she made it wider so it would be more visible?
Hello, yes that could be, but I really wanted to make everything a bit bigger for the video - for the visibility. Thank you for your comment.
Hello, thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it - yes, that was exactly what I was trying to do... next time I just have to mention it 🌸
💙💙💙
