    I am rewatching your recap just now. So the needles you need for lace knitting are of course quite fine. Did you bring a whole assortment of needle sizes with you for all the different workshops or were those provided? Just wondering what I need to pack next year. (Can you tell I am excited already?)

    I use the queue feature for fantasy knitting and fantasy shopping 🤪 You know that feeling when you have a spark of inspiration or need, like "I NEED a loopy fuzzy boucle sweater" and you go down a ravelry deep dive, dozens of tabs open, researching different yarn bases that you don't own, but you've maybe built a cart on 3 different yarn shop's websites? But realistically, it's the middle of summer, I've got 3 summer shirts on the needles, and a robust Christmas knitting plan that has my next several months booked. I will add my top contenders to my queue, pairing the pattern + yarn, and get that satisfying feeling of having made a decision and thus a concrete step on my path towards getting that dream sweater, without spending any money or actually disrupting my current knitting plans.

    I loved all your recap videos from Shetland and Ireland. If you could only do one of these tours which one would you suggest? Also what did your husband do while you were in your workshops in Ireland? My husband wants to come with me to Shetland but I don’t want him to be bored

    • @rachelisknitting
      @rachelisknitting 4 години тому

      I think that both tours are phenomenal! I recommend looking at the itineraries and comparing them to decide which one sounds more appealing to you. My Scotland tour for May 2025 sold out really fast, but we are working adding additional tours shortly. Not sure if they will be in Ireland or Scotland yet. Non-knitters can get up to all sorts of stuff during the workshops. In Shetland, the non-knitter on our trip did a lot of walking around and taking in the sights and scenery. One day in Ireland, my husband DJ climbed a nearby "mountain" while we were in a workshop. The tour guide sometimes is also able to provide a list of local suggestions for non-knitters to explore while the knitters are in the workshops!

    Maybe if you have a pretty container, like a basket, put the combination of yarn in an area you go by often. Pet them, rearrange them, have fun. Like you said, maybe never, ut stop to smell, fondle, pet all the yarns that "give you joy". (Psst, sound familiar) 😉 😊

    Wonderful final part of your Irish Knitting Tour. It's definitely made me a little envious seeing all the fabulous places you visited and the great workshops. Until I watched your Shetland tour and now this one I never realised that Knitting tours existed. Thanks for all your hard work in making the videos while you were on the tour and then editing for UA-cam, with all the links too.

    About the plastic storage--hack: also put a few cedar spheres or a small block in each, to do the same function (moth repelling) that your chest itself does (even more important for medium to long-term storage). . And about the Doppio sweater. You are not committed to it right now. You should do whatever feels best to you. . But here are five reasons *that you yourself mentioned * why you *should* do it: . It's a pattern you like; it looks to be a fairly quick knit-up; you already have sufficient lovely matching yarn for it; you'd be doing it in concert with dear friends with whom you've been last year and will be in Ireland this Fall; and, it will give you permission to buy other useful, beautiful yarn next time you are there. That's a lot of *plus-side.* All I'm saying. . Take it as you will.

    this is an excellent explanation to share with people who think we charge too much. If you assembly line the rat and make more then that changes the cost too. This is also a wonderful process to check if your projects are profitable when comparing what your time is worth and what the market can sustain. More makers need to spot check their costs like this. It helps you focus on who to make things for. Thank you Rachel for your time on this!

    Hi Rachel, I loved seeing all your knits and will be casting on the ribbed vest by LionBrand as my first ever garment. In your video you mentioned that at the start you were a much looser knitter than now and I am having the same problem. For the ribbed vest I had to go down to 2.5mm needles and then I am still not completely on gauge and that with worsted weight yarn. So how did you tighten up your stitching, or did it just happen with practice? Thanks so much for all your videos I am bingewatching them right now.

    • @rachelisknitting
      @rachelisknitting 2 дні тому

      I am still a bit of a loose knitter, but I find that forming my stitches on the tips of the needles (the narrowest point) has helped me tighten up my tension a bit! The good news about the slipover you mention is that it will stretch and compress due to the nature of the ribbing. So you shouldn't have to worry too much about fit because of that!

    Found your channel by accident, and was super intrigued to hear about your trip as I have strong connections to Scotland (even though I have lived in Australia for decades and am currently living in Darwin, which is in the Australian tropics … 😊). I have to say, this is the BEST bit of armchair travel I have had the privilege to enjoy in ages! Congratulations on a job well done. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 It was a real treat to be able to sit here in my air conditioning, spinning away and knitting, while seeing some places that were so dear to me as a child. I doubt I will ever get back for a visit, but this was the next best thing. I may live in the tropics, but I still love my Shetland lace knitting and Fairisle, so it was awesome to see the exhibits in the museum. Have subscribed and look forward to more of your videos. Hugs from Down Under … 🥰🌴🌴🌴

    Beautiful! I miss knitting Icelandic and other sweaters like this. I grew up in a cold climate, so it was a constant for us. But in southern California and Hawaii where I’ve lived the last 20 years it’s just too warm. But I’ve gotten over it and I’m back to, using wall again and hoping that someone will buy my crazy hand dyed hanks. I am going to be traveling to London in Edinburgh, end of January and beginning of February so looking forward to getting some specialty yarn there. Any suggestions are appreciated.
