General Relativity Explained
India
Приєднався 13 жов 2022
This channel explains the mathematics of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity. Tensor calculus, differential geometry, spacetime curvature, Lorentz transformation, Riemannian manifold are also explained. It also explains the concept of gravity in Newtonian mechanics and how it is generalized to spacetime curvature. This channel is dedicated to General relativity.

The Einstein Hilbert action is a fundamental concept of General Relativity that led to the formulation of Einstein Field Equation. David Hilbert arrived at the formulation of spacetime geometry using action priniciple and Einstein did that using partial differential equations which had various tensor components. Einstein Hilbert action has profound influence in understanding General Relativity as it is simpler, elegant and has far reaching consequences that even embraces other areas of physics including Quantum Field Theory. This video, will teach you in understanding the concept of Einstein-Hilbert action, the Einstein-Hilbert debate and the core concept of this formulation. This is the first part of the video and I will be covering the concepts in the subsequent series.

Very interesting thank you. So is the Einstein-Hilbert derivable from first principles or just plucked out of the air, a bit like the Field Equations? It has always puzzled me why they can not be derived somehow from first principles. Thank you
Thank you very much. Here is your answer The Einstein-Hilbert action is not directly derivable from first principles in the same way that, say, the Schrödinger equation can be derived from the underlying principles of quantum mechanics. However, it's not entirely "plucked out of the air" either. Here's a breakdown of its origins and significance: (1) Motivations and Derivation: Generalizing Newtonian Gravity: Einstein sought a theory of gravity that was consistent with special relativity and could explain the anomalous precession of Mercury's orbit. He knew that such a theory would have to involve the curvature of spacetime. (2) Principle of Least Action: The principle of least action is a powerful tool in physics, providing a framework for deriving equations of motion. Einstein aimed to formulate his theory of gravity within this framework. (3) Identifying a Suitable Lagrangian: The challenge was to find a Lagrangian density that would yield the desired field equations for gravity. Einstein and Hilbert, working independently, identified the scalar curvature R as a promising candidate.
thank you

Great video.I am a student of class 9 and i am doing self research and study in physics. And finally, now iam in front of GTR course.so,would you please give the introduction to all of the main topics such as in case of newtonian mechanics ,first we learnt a bit calculus and then was making ourselves familiar with each of the terms and then dealt with kinematics and then with Newton's laws.would you please actually make us familiar with general relativity (not special relativity) in the same way
Hello, thank you very much for your feedback. This course on General Relativity wil cover up everything starting from Galilean Relativity, to Newtonian Mechanics, Special Relativity, non-Euclidean geometry, Differential geometry and so on... Also on this channel you will find whatever mathematics is required, Linear Algebra, vectors and Tensors and so on. So, stay connected and please share the video so that others can also learn.
Just a question none ever answered to me : if a black hole appeared suddenly near another black hole, would not that change the "shape/size" of the event horizon ? If yes, should not that allow an object to get out of it ? If not, how to explain that intuitively ?
The interaction between two black holes, especially if one suddenly appeared near another, indeed affects the shape and behavior of their event horizons. When two black holes come close enough to interact, they don’t retain independent, spherical event horizons. Instead, they form a complex, distorted, combined event horizon that behaves as one unit. Here’s a breakdown of why this doesn’t allow objects within the event horizon to escape: Merged Event Horizon Shape: When black holes approach each other, their event horizons merge into a single, larger event horizon that envelops both black holes. This shape is dynamic and often elongated or warped as the black holes orbit each other, but it’s still a continuous boundary. The merged horizon is mathematically a single surface that no part of can be exited from within. No Exit Pathway: The event horizon is a surface where escape velocity equals the speed of light. When two black holes merge, they don’t create an escape path; instead, their combined mass and gravity cause the merged event horizon to encompass both. Even if the event horizon’s shape changes, the light-cone geometry (the directions in which light can propagate) doesn’t shift to allow any direction that leads outward, so nothing can escape once within this new horizon.
I wonder if you can change the electrical reaction that forms Gravity and un-bend the Spacetime 😆 Modification of an object to repel from the ground would be quite an accomplishment 🤔👍
Great video! 17:29 If it's wrong, why is there such a convention?
By wrong I tried to mean that the picture of the person pushing the ball is erroneous as for gravitational potential it was just an analogy.
But how can the equation make sense without a minus sign? Wouldn't it mean that the acceleration is in the direction of increasing potential? How could that make sense?
@@hershyfishman2929 In gravitational potential, + and - signs indicate the direction of potential energy. Gravitational Potential: Gravitational potential (V) is a scalar field describing the energy per unit mass at a point in a gravitational field. Plus (+) sign: A positive gravitational potential indicates: 1. Energy required to move an object away from the source. 2. Repulsive potential (not common in gravity, but occurs in certain theories). 3. Higher potential energy. Minus (-) sign: A negative gravitational potential indicates: 1. Energy released when an object moves closer to the source. 2. Attractive potential (typical in gravity). 3. Lower potential energy. Example: Consider Earth's gravitational potential: - At infinity: V = 0 (reference point) - Near Earth's surface: V < 0 (negative, attractive potential) - Far from Earth: V > 0 (positive, repulsive potential, but decreasing) 1. Gravitational potential energy: U = mV 2. Gravitational field: g = -∇V

The relation between Grassmann's ideas about linear algebra and general relativity is a suitable subject for undergraduates.God bless MarcelBic...
Yes. But a small correction. That is Hermann Günther Grassmann. Here I am talking about Marcel Grossmann, Swiss mathematician and friend of Einstein
Awesome vid! You mentioned a part 2... Where?
Will make shortly.
Sir your video is wrong right at the beginning. A quantum system in itself is not probabilistic.... only when a measurement is made the outcome is probabilistic. The Schrödinger equation is perfectly deterministic. Only when there is a transition from small scale to large scale probabilities come in. (Copenhagen interpretation)
Quantum mechanics supplies probabilities for all the things that might happen or all the things that might have happened in the past.
@@generalrelativityexplained that does not correct your statement
God imagine doing that in a war zone of an industrial war. That is amazing! Didn’t Ludwig Wittgenstein also come up with some great ideas in war.

Also, are you familiar with any experiments regarding the effects on a light beam and shifts in its spectrum as it propagates through a radiation field and/or a magnetic field? I’m asking to see if the observed light coming to us from around the universe and it’s apparent red shift could be due to interactions as that light transitions from the interstellar medium to the heliopause which could create the illusion of Doppler shift which then would lead to the erroneous belief that the universe was expanding? That then would in turn get rid of the need for dark energy. Such an erroneous belief could explain the dead end physics has found itself in as of late regarding unification? Please let me know as well as sharing your thoughts on the hypothetical thought experiment of what the 2nd and 3rd order effects would be if the universe was static as Einstein once thought and not expanding? I worry that the observed red shift is our modern day equivalent to our former belief in the constancy of time in the 19th century which lead to the erroneous belief in the Aether which I believe could be equivalent to our current belief in universal expansion and the unprovable dark energy.
Thank you for the video! Do you believe that there could be value in revisiting Einstein’s final attempt to unify electromagnetism with General Relativity in his Unified Field Theory now that we have computers to help with the complex mathematics that I have always heard was the problem with his Unified Field Theory? I believe that it dealt with torsion which at first glance could be beneficial with strings?
Absolutely love it! Love how you tell what each component is and is for! Thank you!🙏
Thank you
