    It's amazing how most of the rest of the Karate World has lost this since 1980. Good to see Tang Soo Do keeping it up.

      @@DonkeyEMakesYouWiserNow appreciate it. We try to keep it realistic but relatively safe. There definitely are deficiencies to this kind of light contact sparring but it’s the kind of thing we can do every time we train.

    This guy is always fantastic to watch, and great at real traditional TSD. One note, the side kicks were changed from front kicks by one of Funikoshi son, the man who too Karate to Japan. This fit no real bunkai, but were done for physical fitness over combat applications. But that is a long story. lol! Great Hyung.

  • @RobKHere
    @RobKHere 19 днів тому

    I have Dan ranks in both Okinawan Karate as well as TSD. For one, this Hyung execution is as good as you can get, very balanced, just missing the kihap. In TSD this is about a 4th or 5th Dan level. In my version of Okinawan karate, we do not use the pyung ahn or Heian forms, our white belt form is Seisan. This was traditionally the first kata taught in early Okinawan styles like Shorin-ryu. TSD got this form from Shoto-kan, and I must admit, this very done here is better than many shotokan karate people. I can see the years of dedication and polish. My hats off to you my young sir! Tang Soo,

      @@RobKHere thanks for the kind words! I don’t kihap when I train alone because it feels like I’m talking to myself. I do really like this form.

    Very similar to our kata Hangetsu in Shotokan Karate, and favorite of mine for many years. One major difference is we use Mae Geri (front snap kick) instead of Yoko Kekomi (side thrust kick) s your style does here. The rest of the differences is mostly timing of slow vs fast movements.

    I've had the opportunity to train in Tang Soo Do schools that had no Moo Duk Kwan lineage and also Mu Duk Kwan and from my experience the non M.D.K was just like traditional TKD with the exception of the Hyungs...in fact I've also seen Traditional Tae Kwon Do using T.S.D. forms. The Mu DuK Kwon has some softer things and the way the execute the d.knife hand block from the triangle on hip. Makes me wonder if the name was the instructors personal preference.🤔

    I did karate as an adult & I didnt like it because of how rigid it is with its traditional practices/moves, thats it. I saw it as sub optimal. The guard is too low, doesnt allow for free expression on how to kick, very limited overall. I found much more freedom & practicality in Muay Thai where I'm let use even side kicks (yoko geri) if I want to. Besides there is clinch training, decent boxing, a decent guard, more elbows & knees & even headbutts if you are in the Lethwei type of Muay Thai.

    The reason karate doesn't attract adults is because dojos overwhelmingly market and run geared towards children and are little more than dragon daycare.
