    You know Michael, even if the velocity slows down a bit after a number of shots, in the case of hunting, that first shot is usually the most critical. But on a shoot it does of course. But in my opinion, both those targets look pretty damn good to me! I’d say, good Shootin! Thanks So Much for all your testing and research that helps us all. Many Blessings! DaveyJO in.Pennsylvania

    A q-tip and some gunblue will set a brown tarnish to brass, which might help with daytime sighting. Goofy idea, I know... "That takes away from the beauty of the gun!" So, it doesn't matter if you miss or injure your quarry, if your gun is pretty? Gotcha... the fronteirsmen were all wrong. 🤦 (Edit): second part was meant for closed-minded individuals.

    the power you get from the wood you turn to charcoal is do to the amount of cellulose that would has in it. Cellulose is the sugar or the fuel that is used up. If you boil a piece of wood and sugar water and then let it dry and then char it you'll probably get more power. That's my theory anyway lol

    I add a mixture of stale urine and dextrin solution to my milled powder before pucking, about 8-10% by weight. Dextrin will help bind and the urea and mineral salts from the urine act as a pH buffer and burn rate deterrent. Faster powder does not necessarily equate to higher velocity- in a longer barrel you want a sustained pressure plateau, not a spike. When my powder is corned and sieved into various sizes, last step is tumble coating with 0.2-0.3% graphite powder, this helps water proof the grains.

    I have already seen the Paul Harrell video, that was posted last night. And I bid my fair well to Paul in the Muskogee language. Now I am going to ask that you please forgive what I am about to say next. To me, the person that told you to invest in a modern gun has about as much smarts as a person with road rage standing in the middle of a highway with a black powder revolver pointed at him saying: That is not a real gun! That is just my opinion. But seriously how smart can a person that says those kinds of things be? And do they really lack that much understanding about things?

    How far were the archery targets?

    • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
      @lamebeavertradingco.1642 5 днів тому

      The distances varied, Mostly with in 15 yards. It's not so much the distance, it the angle of the shooting. If you shoot archery, next time get your distance, then stand on a milk crate and see how accurate that shot will be. It's quite the challenge. When I ran this archery shoot years ago I set it up in the woods, several complained about loosing arrows in the trees. I have not run the archery range since 2013, that's when I was asked to manage the Knife and Hawk comp. for this rendezvous.

    I'm just glad to have had the time and ability to pick your mind. I honestly outright carry my c&b BP revolver openly, but it's not because I have any aversion to modern firearms. Rather, it's my political stance due to my hardline on learning history, and listening to experience.... but I don't think you want that here(politics, not talking about the gun support 😂). What I struggle for, and strive for, is making a BP c&b revolver reliable enough for defensive open carry actually work. Some people have the misconception that a black powder gun isn't an effective or reliable solution to being attacked or an effective defense against someone that is armed with modern weapons. I'll go out on a limb, and say that you are like me, and don't subscribe to such tomfoolery. It doesn't matter who gets the most shots off... it's who gets the first vital hits. Nothing replaces training. So don't listen to them and take it to heart. They don't want to see reason, and you don't have to force them to.

    • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
      @lamebeavertradingco.1642 5 днів тому

      I train to make the first shot count the most. ( No matter which gun I grab first).. That's why I am a stickler for making my BP revolvers hit the point of aim, If they do not, It's like bringing a knife to a gun fight, If you watch gun battles as the news present them, you will notice those with a lot of rounds tend to miss a lot. Even gang members do have the guts to stand there and take real aim. That's why I do what I do, to help change misconceptions. I have seen many people give up on BP revolvers because they wont take the time to do what is necessary to sight then in. As you can see for me I have no problems dove tailing in a Remington sight, I don't care what the purest say about this.. It's about building confidence. Hope this helps.

    Firstly, R.I.P. to Paul Harrell. As for what UA-cam will do, it really does not matter if it is a modern weapon or a black powder replica. UA-cam will strike down any video at any time. They are that bad. I have for years suggested that the 2A group find a good platform to go to. Sorry that some relied on the money that they were making on UA-cam. But that is a deal with the devil.

    • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
      @lamebeavertradingco.1642 5 днів тому

      It does seam like UA-cam focuses on those who do monetize their channels and feature guns of all kinds. Makes me wounder how Paul H managed to keep his channel for this long of a time. I also think if you tend to make enemies on UA-cam they register complaints with UA-cam just to raise red flags. I see it across a broad spectrum, not just in the gun world.

    That's a Large Print Reprint of the Manual. I've got the Original issue version . I tried this on my first batch it works O'kay for Shotgun Shells but was a Total disappointment in my Revolvers .It also tends to crumble to dust over time which is why Dextrin is sometimes added. This method was never intended to be Pucked as it was only for Emergency Combat use by Soldiers trapped behind Enemy Lines.

      Where do soldiers get KNo3 and sulfur behind enemy lines. I thought about this scenario when I was reading this. That's why I cracked the joke about the whiskey. It doesn't make any sense to me, I have to keep asking the question where do you what you need to improvise making gun powder. Does the military send in the KNo3 for a just in case, sulfur included. I'm still scratching my head over this one. Thank you for the comment.

    Looking at some of my notes, I have used the label "settled density" for my components in g/cc. Using my numbers, I come up with a ratio by weight around 73.9 / 18.5 / 7.6 Someone else's settled density numbers can and probably are different. I don't ever plan on weighing anything out by volume unless I'm improvising.

    Last year I bought a pair of Uberti 1858's and nether gun would fire everytime with factory nipples. I orderd slixshot nipples and one of them wouldn't fire at all. I sold one to my cousin he'll fix it. I bought a conversion cylinder for the other one and that worked fine. I ended up giving it to my daughter who is interested in SA revolvers. Im done with Remingtons I'll stick with my Colt clones. I've had other quality control issues with Uberti as of late.

I learned the match head thing from my Dad who was reloading rim fire 32 for a S&W he had. All my Cap& Ball revolvers have slixshot nipples my caps work ok with them.

    kno3 is very hydropilic, or soluble melts at 334 f sulfur melts 240f f and is plastic, not soluble what makes the puck "puck"? H2O Steam about 214 depending on alt, temp water, or MOC one? alchol, the more pure the better, is very hydopilic and used to dry h2o from things in a lab setting(like windex drys?) as it redily evaporates and carries large amounts of h2o with it, I did qc h2o -30 dew pionts in big Rx, tech, areo sytems, pet and or human food, with 99.9 and 100 isopropyl alchol. Dry hot mixed AMP with alchol fast! and it will dry fast. Please remember you will have isoprpyl hot vapor(clear flame) and AMP togather. Please dry away from hazards. once Pucked you have little surface area for the humidity, so YES! pucked is less likely to get wet. Or? Dry. The mil spec is for screened AMP any place, lots of surface area, and humidity. Your pucks looks great! I bet they sound great, like ceramic, or china when you clink them together. That was FAST for big chuncks!! Lit off easy too. My Goals! Thanks for getting me new IDEAS!

    • @lamebeavertradingco.1642
      @lamebeavertradingco.1642 5 днів тому

      Thank you, yes they sound great, like ceramic, very solid. So perhaps using 50/50 water acetone, the acetone carries the water out of the puck quicker, thus not needing a long drying time. I am watching newer BP content creators as they come up on my recommended list and a reoccurring comment is needing a longer drying time. Their test burns are telling me they are not milling their powder long enough. Lots of big chunks of Kno3 left behind. They'll learn. We all did by experimenting.

      @@lamebeavertradingco.1642 I have used the acetone, not much different as "I noted" or noticed, while looking. Same hazard for the most part, but the A is less bad for US as a bio with out proper fume, vapors, and such PPE. I have access to 99.9 IPA via Mexico and regular medical visits. and its' "medicinal?"

    I think adding alcohol to your solution will precipitate the potassium nitrate (the potassium nitrate is driven out of its solution). The technique is called in Dutch "a solvent pair". A long time ago I was an industrial chemist, I only worked in a lab for a short time, the last 30 years I did other things.
