    The homeless issues are NOT confined to downtown AT ALL. I'm putting my house on the market this spring because I can't take it anymore. And unfortunately, like many West Coast cities, the extreme progressive politics are RUINING the city. If you are into skiing and sailing and into the outdoors the surrounding areas are great. But this guy is clearly looking at bellingham with rose colored glasses.

      Hi Chris! Appreciate the perspective. On second thought, you are probably right that the homeless population also expands down the Guide all the way to Walmart and on Telegraph by Home Depot. Anywhere else I’m missing? Or anything else you think is a con about Bellingham? I always want to give the best interpretation of Bellingham that I can.

      @JoshCrownWhatcomCountyHomes Hi Josh.....let me think about that for a bit. I do think you did a pretty nice job with the video on the whole of it and should be commended for the effort. I've lived here 25 years and Bellingham sort of had a heyday in my mind starting from the closing of the GP paper mill up until maybe about 2008 when increasingly it's started to decline in terms of quality of life on nearly every front. Truly after Mark Asmundson our Mayor at the time left. Our most recent Mayor Seth Fleetwood has been an absolute disaster. I'm not particularly hopeful.... But it's a little bit like talking to my Seattle friends about conditions in their city. And they're all kind of like nothing to see here.....which is living in total denial.

      @@chrishadley8334 You have a bit more Bellingham experience than me. I moved here in 2019, so I guess I haven't seen the downfall that you describe. I have definitely seen the downfall of Seattle, so if it is comparable then I see your point! Where are you considering moving to?

    • @mattdecker6791
      @mattdecker6791 3 місяці тому

      After five generations we left California for WY and the homeless addicts were the primary reason. At some point, people will realize that bummery isn't a victimless crime, because the taxpayer, the robbed homeowner, the child who'd like to play at the park, and the store owner whose patrons lose access, are all victims.

  • @JourneyDrops
    @JourneyDrops 8 місяців тому

    Yeah this is actually why we are going to be moving in the next 2 or 3 years, because of this, but also there's something they won't mention, there's a TON of homeless people. EVERYWHERE. I'm not joking when I say there's a lot of businesses closing down town because of the homeless people. Every free way entrance and exit has homeless people. They are outside of every grocery store. It's bad. It's pretty here, but like it's becoming less safe over time. I have to walk to get my kids from school every day and walk because we don't own a car. And I have seen at least 1 or 2 people a week tweaking out on drugs right near the aquatic center which is right next to the elementary school. I have physically seen people doing drugs in the alley's behind the local businesses. I have only been here a year, and I can already see the decline. We pay $1467 for a 2 bedroom. So eventually my plan is to get on my feet and move away from here. Originally I wanted to buy and stay here, but unless Washington does something about the homelessness crisis, I can't see this getting better. They are all coming down from Seattle and other areas. The pluses I will say, the district as a whole has been phenomenal for my special needs kids. The teachers actually care. But the district has a weird school schedule. Elementary is out by 2:20 everyday, and then every Thursday is 12:20. This is NOT including planned teacher work days. My kids have also been off since December 15th for Christmas break. So I can't work a normal job to accommodate them. There's a massive lack of child care- or the waitlists are almost 6 months or more out. So if you need child care I would get on the waitlists ASAP. The pro's are, LOTS of nature. I feel safe going to the local parks, and generally people are super friendly and are VERY active. I love the artsy parts of down town, and I love to go to the local coffee shops or checking out the Co-op. I also LOVE third planet. They are very open and have tons of metaphysical stuff. Tons of good little food places. Literally just tons of homeless people. And honestly that will be what kills the area if the local government doesn't get it in check. So this is totally my opinion, but like everything mentioned here is correct. My sister has been actively applying for jobs for over 6 months and she hasn't been able to get hired. Would honestly recommend looking more into the Mount Vernon area or more towards Burlington so you are at somewhat of a half way point between Seattle and Bellingham to get the best of both worlds. But the cost of living is going to average about the same.

    We moved to B’ham in 2015; this guy’s video is spot on. The grey skies are a mental health challenge, for sure. We have a cool downtown, but as mentioned, it’s degraded by the homeless & crime. Most crime is just petty theft; if it’s not nailed down, it gets stolen, especially bikes. There’s very little in the way of actual violence on the streets, but we always carry pepper spray and keep our eyes open for shenanigans. There are plenty of these Bellingham videos made by realtors; this one is very accurate and transparent. Well done.

    I feel like I’m gonna make the same mistake 22 year old you did😂 I’m so desperate for independence that I’m finding these little affordable towns and saw a UA-cam comment about one last night where a lady said she tried moving to Aberdeen, WA where I was looking and people would break in to her lot and leave dead animals on her driveway and destroy things for months! I said no to that place and started looking elsewhere only to find out the cities I liked were military hot spots where not many people and things were nearby. The listings are so misleading because they’re obviously not gonna mention the bad things but it’s been a hard search so far… Hence how I got to your videos! (and Bellingham 😂)

    Born and raised in Bellingham myself, living here over 30 years now, the desirability of this town as a place to live is a double-edged sword. I understand it's a fantastic place to live; I am hard-pressed to want to leave myself. And the ever-increasing cost of more money fluctuating into the area makes it near impossible to SCRAPE by with a modest income. Good luck buying anything unless you are making six figs a year. There's not really anything to be done to stop people coming, though at times I wish it could be that way. The influx of people and especially money increases the cost of living, as well as the prevalence of drugs and crime. So, fuck you everybody for turning this lovely town into more of the same corrupt metropolises that you so long to escape from. There is some good that comes from more people coming, but really, I think the more people and the more metropolitan the area becomes, it takes away many of the desirable traits that draw people here in the first place. I guess us here are lucky to enjoy it before it gets inevitably blown out. Enjoy the decline.
