Loren just sung this at my cousin's homegoing two weeks ago, he tore this up.

Its not a private golf course, its a public course. They did not take the land. The beach is still there, its better than ever, anyone is welcome, and in fact is maintained by the developer to help the city with their financial challenges. Don't believe the lies.

If you want to help yourselves, it's not time to rise up but time to get a better education and learn the skills necessary to work for companies like Whirlpool and others. Whirlpool has spent millions and millions of dollars in Benton Harbor (most recently a 65 million dollar building on Main Street that employs 1000 people). If you aren't willing to get an education (mostly free), learn new skills (nearly free) and do the work necessary to capture a high paying job, then you have nothing to complain about. Don't fall for the "we're a victim" camp ... everyone who reads this has an opportunity to rise up on their own if you are willing to do it.

What a lot of unnecessary litter! Will those responsible for organising its release be collecting it up? Or is it going to be allowed to foul our streets, our countryside, our beaches and our oceans? Balloon releases are harmful to the environment, to wildlife and to domestic animals. Even biodegradable balloons can last - and do harm - for a year or more.

If you think it takes a simple phone call to set up an appointment with a representative who disagrees with you, you've never tried to do it (watch 'McCotter & Me: seasons 1&2). If you really want that appointment, sadly, this IS what it takes.

I never said they should be refused a meeting. Would you expect to go to a doctor and just waltz in? Of course it's the Rep's job to listen to constituents, but in order to serve them properly, people should make appointments - just like in any other professional setting. All it takes is a simple phone call. Also - a lobbyist cannot present a check inside the office; that would be in violation of the campaign finance law. So they, like everyone else, must request an (offsite) appointment.

I should also point out that we were very polite at all times. As a result of this demonstration of commitment, we were given an appointment. On the other hand, kicking disabled people out of their home and not giving them a chance to defend themselves, that's rude.

What are you talking about, Lorilea? It is the representative's JOB to listen and represent the people. The people are not an inconvenience. They are his boss. That so many politicians have lost sight of that is exactly what's wrong with our government today. If they were lobbyists stopping by with a check, how long do you think they'd have to wait?

This is why you call ahead for an appointment, rather than just dropping in unannounced, with complete disregard for someone's schedule. That's rude to the Representative, AND to those who made arrangements prior.
