Walking the Abel Tasman National Park (26-28 Oct 2024)
Walking the New Zealand's Abel Tasman National Park Great Walk over 3 days from Tōtaranui to Mārahau with Nicki, Bridget & Dave. Despite walking during a very wet labour holiday weekend (26-28 October 2024), the rain did not detract from the stunning coastal scenery.

My family Ross. I want information please.
Hi Scotty. Can you please share your email with us so we can explore a potential collaboration opportunity?
Thanks for the comments. Tough call but I would choose the Roxburgh Dam end to Shingle Creek. Nice diversity of scenery and easier return ride!
Hey Scott, Thanks for the video. Impressed you did both ends in one day with no jet boat! If we could only do one section, which would you recommend? Second half looks steeper but also sweet views. Cheers

Wish I could make it to Ross Island !
How is first tracks up at the summit? is it a bit icy or just perfect?
you didn't video the best bit down from Cowboy Paradise
@@TheHealingNature Always hard choosing the sections for an edit but agree that it is a very fun section of switchbacks. The hill over to Lake Kaniere is always taxing at the end of the day.
I was there 2 weeks after you. Snow was still mint.

OMG I WENT THERE LAST WEEK IT WAS SO FUN!😂💗
I wanna go do that luckily im going to adventure park tomorrow
I actually live in nz chch 😂 I think I’ve been here but i don’t know but if it has a gondala I have been
Theres a chairlift there but no gondola
Same
Wow!!!!! That is pretty cool
People in Nz chch 👇
Me
Let’s go
What time of the year do you think all of the runs are open?
The weather is more variable these days but on whole August typically the best month for all runs to be open.
@@scottybsactiveinterests 👍 see you next winter!
Is that new snow?
It was a couple of days old from memory.
Oof, tonnes of grass! Here's hoping 2025 is a colder one.
super nice to see what that run looks like. Thanks for sharing. Looks nice having confidant ski buddies pushing your boundaries.
Cheers. I ski with a good bunch who are usually happy to wait when I have to pick my way down the really steep stuff.
You really ripped that catwalk!
Gosh where has all your snow gone, maybe it is time to start looking at your carbon footprints.
Regardless of snow, everybody should be considering their carbon footprints. Worth noting that Mt Hutt strives to be the first NZ ski field to open and had a great snow base in May but got decimated due to rain the week before opening. Like the northern hemisphere, the season has started late with great snow that should last the distance to closing in mid October.
I was there for this season, they had (and still do I believe) a 2 meter base. Plenty of snow. Its was the damn wind and rain! Side note, anyone that says Mt Hutt is not the best ski field in NZ is just wrong.
Oh my God.😂😂😂😂
Awesome, beautiful. You are making me jealous, Scotty 😂😂. I really want to head back to MtHutt this season...so expensive, all costs together. Will see...
Yeah, it can be like $600 for a spring pass and $30/day to get the snoman shuttle from chch. Plus very expensive flights if you're from out of town.😢 But I'm excited to give it a go!
Knee cam was awesome!! It gives a real ski feel seeing the skis bounce the bumps.
Thanks, used a GroPro Chesty with the straps wrapped twice around top of my ski boot. Works good facing backwards as well.
Very nice. Seems more suitable for ski but not snowboard. I kind of freak out a little when there is a cliff 😂😂😂.
Skiing is a lot easier as there is a long flattish traverse out on this run which would be painful on a snowboard. I have seen snowboarders take the Poor Man's Heli run on the Raikaia Chutes as this drops out directly near the Raikaia Car Park. No real cliffs but the potential for a very long slide if you have a good spill but at least with powder this is not an issue.
Powder...rarely an option in Turoa 😢
You don’t understand how badly I wanna go skiing rnn omg it looks amazing
Well done getting this on film! Gratz on the free tshirt!
Been thinking of trying Mt Hutt, thanks for all the recent footage!!
I could lap that route a few times. Decent chalky snow...
Very nice, wow. Don't think I have the courage for that 😂😂😂
Me neither, but when you ski with much better skiers, you end up following them and challenging your skill set!
Thanks Scott. Seems like a really, long, fun run.
The run is not that long compared to the scenic Triple Lift ride back up! Definitely fun though, usually in the first half of the day before the rollovers get shiny.
Looked like a typical Hutt off-piste run, fairing for your life 😅
Cool!
Is it a chest mount or on the helmet
Used a chest mount. Reasonably tall and got sick of whacking GoPro on helmet mount with chairlift safety bar getting on and off.
@scottybsactiveinterests6807 do you have any footage of the top towers and access to it. Have just moved to the area and wanted to see how to get up there. Also you're footage great to watch
@@stevefox6198 Check out my latest video on skiing South Face. You make exactly the same traverse but drop off sooner to ski down through Towers. Take a look at the Mt Hutt Ski Runs Map and you will see what I mean - it is well sign-posted. Also have a chat to the Ski Patrollers at the top of the Summit Six as they are very helpful regarding current conditions particularly as we move into spring freeze/thaw conditions. Mt Hutt's "firm and fast" forecast description is their code for icy! When they say "we recommend you wear helmets", that is code for very icy! Enjoy.
@@scottybsactiveinterests Mint thanks heaps for that
Nice Scott. Ended up not doing the international on Friday. Didn't see that video before 😢. It was my first time at MtHutt on Friday, and your videos helped a lot with the confidence etc 😊 so thanks again. I have to say, watching the other videos I thought Platter Splater wasn't that steep but I did it anyways 😂. I think the conditions didn't help much. It wasn't icy but a bit hard at the start. I'm sure it feels better when it's softer. Looking forward to seeing a new video of the international. It seems fun. Is it a good one? Will try to head back to MtHutt until the end of the season. Thanks
Thanks for the nice words. Glad you had a great day on Friday. International is a great run but best enjoyed in the first half of the day before the snow is scraped off the top of the rollovers leaving icy patches that tend to raise the heart rate. As for Platter Splatter, steep but magic when the snow is soft however when firm, you lose a lot of altitude in 3-4 turns! Spring skiing is fantastic at Hutt, the slopes all soften at different times as the sun moves around and there is usually no crowds.
' Icy patches that tend to rise the heart rate ' 😂😂😂. Thanks for your reply. Yeah will try to head there in September.
Great vid, thanks Scott!
There's only month left so rn it's august and when it's September last month to ski
Coming to Mt Hutt next week for the first time after living in New Zealand for 18 years. Mainly go to Turoa. Super excited. Thanks for the videos.
Hope you enjoy Mt Hutt. Snow is fantastic at the moment.
i like the stabilized knee cam
@@ugielka Thanks, wrapped my GoPro chesty mount to top of ski boot. Works well rear facing too.
Using a GoPro mate?
Yep, GoPro12 with Max Lens Mod 2.0 lens filmed at 5k resolution using horizon lock.
Looks absolutely fabulous 🎉🎉🎉
I am old enough to remember that triple chair opening back in the early 80s...
Nice video and music ! , our daughter will go to Christchurch as student change and home staying for sister city program next month ends. We would like to go skiing. Then I met the video. As first day icy , but not so bad condition i feel, Enjoy your season.
With a few snowfalls since opening, the mountain has been transformed with nice skiing now and more snow to come. Recommend taking a look at the Mt Hutt Webcams. Hope your daughter enjoys the skiing and her study in Christchurch.
Fantastic video. I like the stormy and wet Westcoast. 6 times there.
Thanks. Have cycled it annually with some mates since 2019. Great track.
how early did you get there
Around 5am. Not quite so serious as the folks that overnighted or as one of the guys who arrived 50 hours prior!
Great job! Nice day on the water.
Thanks 👍
Looks pretty fun
The little snips of snow version were a great addition
An hour long version would be good😮
How long did it take you to walk to the end?
It is roughly 5km each way and took about 1.5 hours each way with plenty of photo stops.
