Abstraction in visual art, particularly painting, is filled with a history of imagistic languages , spatial , and painterly tropes that often skew the meaning of the work. The meaning is not direct it always has to be read thru past style or technique that eludes to original intent of the form in the past. Example , Abstract Expressionism, Cubism , OP Art, Geometric Abstraction, ect. Most visual art in all cases is this plus based on how the language is executed ie , pallet , painting technique , interaction of forms or composition. Abstraction does not have as strong a hold on the expression of the unseen as in the past due the it's own history .
