FIRST LISTEN to Unknown Pleasures ALBUM || Joy Division
This is my first time ever reaction to the album Unknown Pleasures by the English 80's alternative band Joy Division. This is the first half of the album 'Unknown Pleasures' and is their most popular album. The bass, guitar and vocals really stood out to me in this album and really reminded me of all the other popular tracks from it's time and more recent tracks in the indie rock scene that I enjoy.

NEW FAN reacts to The Smile for the FIRST TIME || The Smoke
Переглядів 1539 місяців тому
This the the reaction for my first experience listening to The Smile, and I chose the most popular track 'The Smoke'. I decided to check them out as all I knew of them was that Thom Yorke was the lead vocalist. This was a surprising and pleasant experience, but watching the recording back, I am embarrassed about the shear amount of times i repeated "combination I've never heard before" lmao. In...

DUDE reacts to WEIRD FISHES/ ARPEGGI || RADIOHEAD
I'm late to the party, I suppose... great that you're checking out the whole album now and I'm glad that you're enjoying it. Actually for a first impression those ratings seem quite fair and I'm sure that this record will quickly grow on you. Just as you mentioned how it was with Radiohead it's the same with Joy Division: these songs often don't 'work' at first glance, give them time and listen to them over and over and they will expose their magic. Great to hear that you're liking Lush as well. I'd recommend (if you shouldn't know them) to listen to Slowdive, especially their album 'Souvlaki Space Station'. The song 'When the Sun Hits' has a similar impact on me as 'New Dawn Fades', another grower and it still gets better to me each time I hear it. It just came to my mind because it's aso classified as Shoegaze just like Lush as well. And Shoegaze is a genre that took a lot of inspiration from post-punk artists like Joy Division.
I actually still dance to this. How can anyone sit still while this is playing, talk about a way to instantly fill a dance floor. lol
the reviewer sounds like he's been teleported in from 100 years ago, edwardian english. where the fuck did you get that accent from?
Great content. Just subscribed. Keep em coming ❤️
If you like erethral music and joy division listen to lowlife I'd recommend sometimes something as it's my favorite track
It's a source of probably misplaced pride that New Zealand was the only country in which _Love Will Tear Us Apart_ was No 1 in the charts.
Joy Division's recorded music is for the most part very bleak. I think that is the reason why they're appreciated. They chose to not offer "oumff" in the ordinary way, but both of their albums are masterly produced by Martin Hannett and the songs equally written and performed by a band that will create interest forever.
"New dawn fades", "Twenty-four hours",and "Decades" for a start. Joy Division were something else.
If you like their sound, then you can hear their heat breaking story in the movie memorializing them: Control 2007 - truly an amazing movie
Leeds leeds are falling apart again 🦊
I remember hearing the news that Ian had killed himself, right before they were to grace the USA on their first North American tour. I would've seen them for sure had they made it here. Didn't surprise me he killed himself, just the timing did.
Imagine a 9 year old boy listening to John Peel under the bed sheets in 1979 and hearing joy division for the first time ... was a fan from then and still listen to them weekly ..They have influenced so many bands ... check out henry rollins talking about unknown pleasures
new dawn fades is an absolute classic
Shoegaze can actually trace a pretty clear lineage back down to Joy Division - their direct influences had a heavy dose of goth rock and indie rock, both through lines that pretty rapidly fed back into JD.
I know it’s odd given how the singer died but this is the song that helped me recover from my suicide attempt.
FFS
Erm, Why the FVCK are you styled like My Generation and Culture ? Is this a bloody Joke ?
She's lost control!
This is USA calling... Now call up Joy Division's odds-n-sods album "Still" (1981). It features some great outtakes from "Unknown Pleasures" that I think should have been included... and in the Compact Disc age 15 years later no doubt would have been...
Not K JOY DIVISIONS best song.Check Atmosphere' it's huge.
Can you do a review of NEU 75 or just the song Negativeland .Please
Du wirst deine Reise machen. I know it. LG
Try a bit of Rush if you like drums
The pain in this song is visceral. I’m 60 and I still feel it!
Something I liked about Joy Division was their bass...
Para mí esa época pasó de largo, porque era demasiado joven... pero a finales de los 90's e inicios de los 2000 (gracias napster) descubrí lo que sería mi droga musical: Joy Division, The Cure, Interpol, The Smiths, She Wants Revenge, Bauhaus, Cocteau Twins, etc.
Can't wait to see part two and your reaction to Shadowplay.
That was Lush at the end, good track, Desire Lines is good too......
You have lots of junk on woodrow like me in my flat
Great reaction. You also have to listen to the sophomore album Closer. It's even better than UP. Can you please react to The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge, a masterpiece of a first album from a criminally underrated post punk band from Manchester. Also, Viagra Boys - Cave World, a post punk band from Sweden who mix post punk with elements of electronica, punk and jazz I hope to see them pop up soon. Subbed.
LWTUA is their most commercial / poppy song, and therefore best-known song. It's also by far their weakest song. They only had 2 albums, due to Ian's suicide, and their best songs are: Atmosphere / New Dawn Fades / Transmission / 24 Hours / The Eternal / Decades / Dead Souls. And no, JD are not "typical" anything - they were extraordinarily influential though, and pretty much every indie band after 1980 copied them. So to you they may sound "typical" lol. But they were the source. I've been a fan for 45 years, and therefore might be expected to dislike a film about the band (if you're really into something, someone else's take on it usually is a shallow PITA) - but "CONTROL" - Anton Corbijn's prize-winning 2007 film about the band is excellent - do check it out. Clip from movie, based on true incident - Ian, having a breakdown, unable to perform, lead singer of Crispy Ambulance drafted in, crowd didn’t like him and a riot broke out: ua-cam.com/video/8zkzpoWEAwI/v-deo.html And here they are, live, with "She's Lost Control": ua-cam.com/video/FD2SfQJOK08/v-deo.html
Bro there are the masters!
Will you react to ok computer?
never say never but i HAVE at this point heard about 60% of it
It sounds like you have adopted Radiohead as the soundtrack of your life, this band is mine. The good parts and the bad. Check out the Movie Control. I think you would love it. I purchased it here on UA-cam but no idea where else to find it. Just look for clips to get the vibe. Every song has a story behind it.
This reaction got my subscription. I plan on checking out your Radiohead reviews.
Giggs will tear you apart again
Leeds are falling apart again
If you like Joy Division and Radiohead check out Bauhaus, contemporaries of both JD and The Smiths. "Bella Legosi's Dead" and "She's In Parties" are among their most well-known and a good place to start.
Joy Division became New Order sort of. Two killer bands. Do you dig the band Rush? They are a drum heavy band. Cheers!
Subbed.
There's no fucking around with this band. They are the greatest. You chose well kid. Now strap yourself in before listening to New Dawn Fades
WTF are you talking about, Jonty/Ollie/Piers/Tarquin/Ben?
Bartholomew
24 hrs and She's Lost Control are by far the best Joy Division tracks. Love will tear us apart is a decent single, and clearly laid the groundwork for what New Order did the rest of the decade, but by no means Joy Division's best work.
if you like drums, react to Broadcast's song Letter from Home... nobody reacts to them & they're missing out.
If you haven't heard it I'd highly recommend Joy Division's song "Dead Souls" it is my personal favorite, and probably one of their most impressive, live version or studio, both are fantastic. Thank you for making these videos!
Not sure if you know but unfortunately the lead singer Ian Curtis commited suicide in 1980 at the age of 23. He suffered from depression and epilepsy which caused him to have seizures, he wrote all the lyrics and they in my oponion are very important as he used the music to express himself, you can feel the emotion in his voice as well, unfortunately they only have 2 albums, this one and Closer (released after he died), I really hope you react to it at some point, Closer is even darker and the lyrics are very heavy and haunting, it is basically Ian's suicide note, very heartbreaking, and it's sad that the band members said they thought they were "just lyrics" as they reflected his state of mind.
I hope you give She's Lost Control a listen.
I first heard this at a party believe it or not, more a gathering of like minded punks. It was dark, fucking dark and definitely the darkest thing I'd ever heard back then and probably since. THey made Leonard Cohen sound like the Smurfs ;-) This was 1979 and I was 16.
'New Dawn Fades' of course, amazing song. The bass / drums intro to 'Wilderness' is really cool. I wonder what you'll think of 'She Lost Control' since it's one of their more well known songs.
