Another thing the surgeon wont mention is adjacent disc disease witch usually takes 3 to 4 years if you're lucky😅
My surgeon would never directly talk with me over the phone i had to make an appointment and drive 1 hr each way to talk with him. After id say the 4 5 month mark they didn't want to hear anymore complaining from me and said all we can do for you at this point is put a stimulator in your back🤔
@@johnmitchell8925 That is horrible. I hear the stimulator in the last resort on problematic surgeries. Sometimes I think the surgeons need to go through the surgeries so they can understand.
I had a 3 level fusion in my neck. And just let me tell you it was a walk thru Disneyland compared to my lower back fusion 😮
@@johnmitchell8925 I hear you. I am having trouble with my lower back now and I am trying to avoid a back surgery at all costs!
Im still paying on two fusions and 4 MRIs from 2015😂 Now they're saying i have an other disc completely blown in to the sciatic right above where they fysed L5,S1 🥶🥳 ive been suffering for 4 year's now😂🤣🤪🤢
@@johnmitchell8925 I am so sorry. I know they said if you have one vertebrae fused you are likely to have more above or below. I wish you the best of luck with a solution and pain relief.
Such a easy explanation glad this was a condensed version thank you ❤️
Thank you for this realistic view of what to expect
Beautiful.❤

Reading comments there is not a lot of conversations about there activity level. Having physical movements help with blood circulation and better healing. I found that if i am in pain i better find a way to keep blood circulation. I am on day 6 from c-5 c-6 c-7 fusion. I am back to walking 4 miles a day and found much pain relief in getting that blood movement. If i am going to have pain i might as well be doing something to get my mind of it so im not so tensed up. The pain in my right arm and neuropathy pain has stopped with the surgery so i am going to do what it takes to help heal the damage from the surgery that most likely is temporary. Amazing how much life can be improved from these well educated doctors that are like the healing hands of our maker!!
@@alberthaug-t4p i can say that activity is important after all surgeries…as long as you can do it. I could walk 4 miles before the surgery but six days after I could not have due to the muscular pain in my back and neck. Just washing my hair or putting on clothes with long sleeves was almost unbearable. I could not hold my head up without fatigue. Love to know your age, if you took pain killers, and activity level before the surgery. Each person has a different experience due to so many factors. Best of luck in your recovery.
@TheWellEducatedArtist ya I'm 68 year old man retired. I been over weight most my life. Had lower back surgery February. 2023 with relief to my sciatic nerve. Had bad disk problems with my neck for decades. Went to ortho about my neck Aug. 2023 and was given referral for weight management and I started walking everyday and weighing all foods and fluids with intermittent fasting. I lost 45 lbs before sleeved april 29th. 2024 and lost total 120 lbs. All together. Had mri. Neck in July this year that showed severe stenosis c-5 c-6 c-7. Tylenol was only pain reliever I took but continued the exercises. Had the fusion oct.30th 2024 and came home from hospital with orders for muscle relaxer as needed every 6 hrs. And Norco 5-325 one tablet every 4 hrs as needed. I ice my neck both sides that give me great relief and 2 tylenol 500 mg.if needed. I found to set in my recliner or chair or bed gives me more pain than walking around. I am a retired geriatric nurse so I am well educated seeing people that have severe pain and get out of there comfort zone and shed tears but have a quick recovery getting those muscles and blood moving. The words are easy to say and the pain is real but I am very grateful for the right arm pain being gone and the nerve relief on my right upper extremity. Time for healing is on my side now and I want to keep moving and enjoying the new me even with the healing process pain.

You unkowningly swivel, tilt, turn and twist your neck all around when you talk. I'm sure that isn't helping you.
Thanks for your update. Its been 6 months since my ACDF C6C7 surgery and I still have muscle issues in my trapezium and back of neck I've been seeing a physiotherapist to help with a stiff neck but I wake up in pain which is disappointing. I think I need to look at the pillow and whether our firm bed isn't helping I'm OK when I walk but sitting down hurts my neck..Would love to hear your feedback. Marg from New Zealand.
@@MargaretNeedham-wo5hf I definitely understand the disappointment. The good news is that it has only been six months. You may see better results after you reach a year or even two. I’m not going to lie. I still struggle with my back muscles especially the trapezius and now the muscles from my mid back attached to my hip are not functioning like before the surgery. Your body learns to compensate over time and it takes a long time to undo that learning, I think the physio is a great idea and staying active, even through the pain, is important. I wish you the best on your journey and let me know if you find anything that helps. (I’m trying red light therapy now.)

Thrilled i found your channel. Now you can enjoy my tap dancing music people request songs i dance to songs so fun. Im 72. I've been painting since i was 11. My mother was an artist too, only with oils. ❤
I had it done on c4,5,6. For 3 months I kept saying I had trouble swallowing my own saliva. The dr didn’t see me he said it was normal and gave me more pain medication. I’m one of 23 siblings. This is significant because unless you are bleeding out you don’t complain. 3 months after my surgery I spiked a fever of 104 I was going septic from an abscess around my esophagus from where they had punctured three holes in my esophagus using the wrong instrument. Surgery, iCU, and a month hospital stay and being sent home with a feeding tube for a year and no food or drink by mouth while they hoped the third hole that they missed would heal. It did. I don’t trust doctors, our bodies are miraculous, they do want to heal. It’s been five years and I realized when I was told I couldn’t cry or the hole might not close I guess I boxed up the trauma and all I lost and moved forward. As I slowly unpack things mentally now and a NDE that occurred during that time as well, it occurred to me that others must be struggling out there as well and stumbled onto your story. I’m an art major and looking forward to checking out your channel. Thanks for sharing your story, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in my struggles. Grateful to still be here and trying to find my way back to a creative and fulfilled life again.
@@agingsisterhood Thanks so much for your comment! I believe it is important for people going into this surgery to know that everyone’s experience with ACDF is different and most surgeons don’t tell the stories like yours. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. I wish you the best as you continue to heal.
I believe true healing begins when you move beyond fear and realize that disconnecting isn’t the answer-it’s time to reconnect. The soul always knows, and I believe the universe is intentional in how it guides us. Finding your channel on UA-cam felt like one of those intentional moments. Not only are you an incredibly talented artist, but your tutorials are so well done and inviting-they really encourage that creative spark to come alive again. On top of that, hearing you openly share your experience with your ACDF made it feel safe to start speaking up about my own journey. The universe reminded me that I’ve been silencing my creativity for too long, and it’s been crushing my spirit. Thank you for inspiring me to reconnect with that part of myself. I’m really looking forward to trying one of your tutorials! 🦋👐🦋

Hi I just came across your video as I was trying to find others & experiences with acdf surgery. Thank you for this video. I had acdf surgery C5-7 3 months ago, I’ve worn the collar for all 3 months, but my Dr allowed me to take it off the last few weeks in my home, no driving yet. My concern is- I am a RN, I see my surgeon next week & the plan has been for me to go back to working FT. I’m so scared & stressed out. I haven’t been able to do much exercise because with no driving I can’t get out and do a lot. And if I overdo it, I get a lot of neck pain which causes me migraines. I am worried I will go back to work full-time and get burnt out right away. When did you feel like you were able to work & be on your feet for long periods? Thank you
@@CharissaRascoe-if2qu I would say after 3 months I could be on my feet for a few hours and be ok. However I was by no means back to 100 percent and neck mobility was limited. Picking up heavy items was, and still is, a no go for me if I don’t want to be in pain. My muscles in my back and shoulders still haven’t acclimated and my back and neck are easily strained. may find you have to take it easy at first as an RN depending on where you work and your duties. It took me a full year to really find a new normal. I wish you luck as you move forward in your healing process.

Mine is work related...meant postop 7 weeks. It's not been fun. I start PT on neck and arm, and OT for my arm and arm related to loss of fine motor skills. I I still have numbness from below my shoulder down to fingertips. I tire out easy, it's like my head gets hard to hold up. I was working full time as a hospice RN, now retired from being a hands on nurse. Would I do again, as a nurse I say Yes because there is permanent problems if surgery wasn't done. Like permsnent ataxia and myelopathy. This has to do with balance and gait. My best nonpill medication is icepacks. It's going to take a long time....😢 to heal. Taking one day at a time. Pain in bu#@ waiting on everything to be approved! My myelopathy will never go away but the surgery will prevent it from progression.
My journey has been hard so far my physical therapy)and OT therapy been hard? And I'm starting them over plus additional occupationional therapy. Okay my pain med has kicked in. I have to keep correcting what I wrote
I had a CDF surgery recently actually on September 23rd and I feel awful. It's massive severe pain. I also have fibromyalgia, which is a chronic nerve pain and Lumbar stenosis along with other issues so I massive pain if you ever get a chance to reply to me I would like to know do you feel the surgery was worth it or if you could do it all over again would you have surgery again? I know It's still too soon for results for me, but I am still not stable like I'm still stumbling almost to the point of tripping, I know I have a long journey ahead of me with Christ by my side I shall whether the storm Thank you for sharing your experience. God bless 🙏🏼
@@Aerie-dc5jh I definitely remember those early days after surgery. The pain was horrible and I regretted my decision every time I moved. I also have neuralgia apart from the neck and under stress that pain becomes severe. It took a full year to see results for me but the neck pain is better if I don’t overdo anything. We just moved so I am in a world of hurt with myofascial pain and neuralgia and now hip pain. Yay!😁 with something like nerve and back pain it doesn’t seem to end when you have chronic pain. To answer your question about whether I would do it again…probably because I hoped for an “easy” fix. Since I had other nerve problems it wasn’t the completely pain free experience I had hoped. My neck is better, but my muscles in my back and shoulders have never fully adjusted for whatever reason and my nerve pain below the neck comes and goes. Hopefully, you will heal nicely and your pain and compression symptoms will go away entirely. I wish you the best in your recovery!
Thank you so much for your response it was very helpful to me and I really appreciate it. 🙏
I’m around 6 months post op and in agony the last 3 days out of nowhere . I only had one level done despite needing 3, surgeon felt 3 at once was too aggressive but I’m 6 months on with issues from the untreated levels now, miserable , upset, frustrated. I’m 37, what is life going to look like in 5 years never mind 30 years. This is hard surgery !! Would love to speak to anyone else in a similar position as I’ve no one to talk to who’s had the surgery
@@charlottewaudby7258 I’m so sorry you are in so much pain. I will say that it is my understanding that a lot of people have set backs around 5-6 mos. I know I did. There were a lot of ups and downs the first year. I’m honestly surprised that your surgeon was so conservative if you needed more levels done since they usually aren’t. I was told that once one level was done that it was likely that the other levels that showed deterioration would deteriorate more quickly? There are so many schools of thought on this so who really knows. I am assuming that your surgeon says everything looks ok on your X-rays at 6 mos? Failed fusions do happen more than they like to admit so hopefully that is not the case. I can say that I would never want to go through this surgery again if it could be avoided. It took me over a year to feel like maybe the surgery was somewhat beneficial. I hope that in time your pain will improve as the fusion completes.
I love using the painting as more than a background, integrating it the way you did! Thanks so much!

Agreed, NEVER ever waste paint. Use on canvas, resin, wood, skins, dipping, pour, sooo much more. You did BEAUTIFULLY!! I love this
I love peacocks also. I once had a pair of white peacocks and his tail feathers looked like lace when he fanned them out. I love your Peacock art!!!
@@donnamitchell8448 Love white peacocks! Our peahen (the egg) actually was supposed to be from a white peacock and we thought she would be white, but she turned out to be an Emerald Spaulding instead. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this video, and the peahen looks awesome. Thanks for sharing it.

For the bowl you made, How do you keep the resin from just sliding off while curing? Do you have a video showing how you made it?
@@JaneMills14 For one of the bowls I used UV resin and a bowl form so I cured the resin as I went. The other bowl I used regular resin and let it firm up before shaping. There are full form videos for both on my channel. Just search “bowl” on my channel or “acrylic skin art bowl” on UA-cam. One is clear and one is purple. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your information. I had my surgery almost 3 months ago and thought I made a wrong decision to have surgery. I had 2 Disks replaced and am a little older. My pain is still there and may have a day or two OK, but shoulder , upper back and some neck pain still persists. I hope in a year most of that will be gone. Thank you for being open.
@@debbieeagan8262 Best of luck with your recovery. I hope you find relief in time.
My fusions c6/7 did not fused my arms and hands are weak and numb. What is your opinion on my failed fusion
The failure of fusion is very real and thank you for bringing that up. I am so sorry that happened to you. It must be very frustrating. Failure in hardware is often the problem. Was that true in your case?
@@TheWellEducatedArtist no the bone graft did not fuse
Did you use any nicotine products at all? Did you use NSAIDs? Were you lifting above say 25 pounds?
Wow gorgeous
