You talk at a pace and tone that makes all of this easier to understand for newbies.
Thanks!
Really glad I found this channel, thank you algorithm.
Thanks for being here buddy
The length this man goes to, to win his dog's respect
I’m using a T3i rn and this just inspired me. What setting are you using on the camera? My footage is always shaky af handheld
I shot everything at 24FPS. The kit lens was stabilized which helped but the 50mm was not and was tougher to hold steady. Practice makes perfect! Get out there and start shooting!

Nice vid.
I'm going to drop the truth bomb. It seems like a captive audience here. Does gear matter? Cinematographer: Not nearly that much. Cinematography is way more about what's intentionally crafted outside of any camera. The use of contrast ratios, be that light, depth, color, metaphor are much, much more important. Image quality is not Cinematography. Many, many outstanding films are crafted with modest tools that export subpar image quality, which is often intentional. Videographer: This is the realm of point and shoot, and "getting the shot", or "run n gun". It has its roots planted in ENG, ehich is more about documentation and preserving antiquity. In this space camera specs and features tend to matter a great deal more since you're trying to overcome the lack of curation and control of the environment outside the camera and all its unplanned variables. Recently the lines between these two related but different skillsets have become blurred, and I don't think its doing folks a lot of favors in channeling them in the direction they ultimately want to land. So, the question, "does gear matter?" solely depends on the context of who's asking and what they need to accomplish. If you're an aspiring cinematographer, use your phone if that's all you have access to. It's not about the Canon Ti or any other camera. Its about your ability to craft what your camera simply records at your discretion. A good story is a good story, and audiences would be hard pressed to reject it.
I think it does matter, I remembered a channel called dslr guide, now he doesn't use dslr at all, he uses lumix s5. where he also used to say that the camera was not important. and he doesn't want to switch from canon apsc dslr. but look at him now
this is like super high quality ngl very good video
As I'm watching Get Back, I'm seeing Ethan Russell, a professional photographer, use a Nikkormat FT. Nikkormat was a consumer grade camera, an affordable alternative to the Nikon SLRs of the time. To see him take photos on a Beginner camera tells me you don't need good gear to take great photos. I personally shoot some photos on a Canon EOS D30. The first fucking Canon DSLR.
5 yrs using a 200d(SL2)
deserved my sub

Convinced me to make the switch from premiere 🫡
You won’t regret it
Thanks ❤❤❤❤❤
No problem!
But how to get the subject in focus when they are moving? I got this camera but I want to shoot travel videos.
You must master to art of pulling focus manually on an old camera.
@RossRadcliffe can you make a tutorial please?
@@sumangoswami2620 Turn lens. /end tutorial
Dude that was inspirational! Makes me want to buy an old camera and challenge my self.
You should. It’s a humbling experience.
I've been looking to get into my first camera, not specifically for film making but recording is definitely a part of it, and seeing a T3i (a camera that to me is at the lowest of lowest) do so good makes me realize that I should just stick to my original budget instead of some expensive camera, since for what I want to do I will need some good and expensive lenses sadly lol
I still have my T3I and it is amazing.
It really is
Bro you can cook.
Appreciate it, been in the kitchen a lot lately.
Also let us know how it goes getting your dog to be more respectful
I appreciate that. It’s a daily struggle.

such a nice vid, great job and a great take on the topic!
Thanks!
love the short film.
I still use a Canon T3i for photography(can't afford a full frame right now) but I have never really messed with it too much for video. I also have a Canon T5 that I recently used for filming the CSX Santa Train, but I rarely use it for filming, too. I guess it was like, okay, let's see what this camera can do film-wise. The issue I had was that it kept stopping during filming, as the T3i doesn't. I am guessing it must be the card I am using in the T5.
Ofcourse not. But with my Nikon 10.5mm fisheye 😅 it kinda does matter what I shoot on. The fact I have to fix distortion in every image means I need at least 20mp to have a good starting point. But I take multiple shots to stitch together so I can get away with an older camera, as long as it doesn't break anytime soon. My old DSLR has no video. But nice video. Storytelling does matter. Yes equipment matters if they fit your end goal.
my 5dmk2 and ef35f14 and85f18 are still ok even a lot look down on me for this old gear
The canon 5D mark 2 is one of the best cameras of all time.
imo the only time gear matters if when it hold you back creatively or on a technical level. you can't shoot 4k if your camera doesn't allow it haha
So... where can I find the feet pics? (asking for a friend)
I spent 3000$ on a latest camera and now you are saying, camera doesn't matter 😡😡🤬🤬
Nice video bro😍
**looks at my D3300 gathering dust on the shelf.. ** ... Here we go again!
Canon T3i + 50mm , or canon r100 +kit.
Brilliant. The little camera that could
I wanted to watch the whole thing before commenting because I wasn’t sure if you were going to say it but you did. It 100% does matter just not in the ways you expect it to. I shot on a t3i in my freshman film class and the camera worked great but boy was it a pain in the ass. And it was still fairly new then. I’ve had a canon m50 since release and it’s great but I never wanted to use it. You have to find grease that inspires you and gets out of your way if you want the end result to be your best work but you can’t just use gear as an excuse to not create. There’s gotta be a balance
In my opinion, it does. I recently bought an old Olympus compact and I've had more fun with that little camera than I've had with my Canon DSLR in months, I've also been shooting way more and getting better results with less attempts. It's not so much about the image quality of the thing but more about having a good user experience, an old premium camera will give you a better experience than a new budget one and that's very important.
This video should be mandatory viewing for anyone new to camera-work. Thank you❤
No, but mine does.
very well explained with humor. amazing video.
All of this, but especially that documentary sequence, makes me want to never shoot anything again. You're out here putting on an absolute clinic/masterclass.
this is the best video about ANY camera i've seen on youtube.
In photography the camera body is actually 100% the least important part. But in filmmaking it's much more important. Even though you can create something really good with a cheap bottom of the barrel camera, you still need lights, a location, a story and shit - but ultimately 1080p25 from a 2011 DSLR doesn't look very nice nowadays when every youtuber and their mother shoots the newest sony mirrorless with some $3K prime
Its also the man behind the camera camera man is more important i seen a guy created a short film on a toy camera that was like 9$ and end up with a great result Its called "i made a movie with amazon's cheapest camera."
the gear nerd in me immediately thought of "CF card pain"/"discontinued battery"/Magic Lantern + Manual Focus.. Great Video!! Love the creative and cinematic approach to the age-old question, my favourite yet! - lemme watch it again
Love this!!! I have a T3i as my first DSLR, learned a lot from it.
I have a t3i and I didn’t you could take good video quality like that! What settings did you use?
Nothing special, I just try and keep the iso under 800 and always had my shutter speed double my frame rate. Good luck filming!
What the fuck? subbed, this is insane quality
@@inviatrroxdx6118 haha I appreciate it
Great video, I love my old T6i and I am much like yourself just LOVE cameras
Damn bro! You really did it! Amazing video man! Love the examples you gave. And yeah “Gear Doesn’t Matter” is relative.
13 years old and still better than a dang iPhone. I tell budget filmmakers all the time that there are excellent DSLR’s for CHEAP that give you MUCH more creative control, low light performance, and of course being able to use actual lenses than using a phone. This is a great example.
Why you comparing a camera and a phone bro. It’s like comparing an iPad to a laptop 😂 many people like to make that comparison. Because they can achieve similar things. But a camera, will always be a camera. And a phone will always be a phone. Same as how a tablet will always be a tablet, and a laptop will always be a laptop.
