How to Repot Store and Nursery Bought Succulents
There’s many videos about how to repot succulents, and most of them involve just taking the plant out of their plastic pot, loosening up some of the soil around the surface of the rootball, then sticking whole thing in plain potting soil or succulent mix. I used to do it this way, and I’ve lost several plants because of it.
They always end up getting root or stem rot, and or the leaves all fall off. This is because the plants roots are still trapped in that compacted ball of peat moss, coco coir and perlite. This mix is fine for seedlings and easy to mass produce for hundreds of plants in the commercial market, but not great for the long term health of the plant.
This is how I repot all of my plants and succulents, by removing all of the old soil, and replacing it with the proper mix for each plant. I almost always use plain terracotta pots, as it helps with wicking away excess moisture. I always pick a pot that’s only slightly larger than the rootball. Succulents don’t like to swim in a sea of substrate in a giant pot, especially because it will take longer to dry out if you water the whole pot.
When potting succulents, or any houseplant for that matter, you may find some people saying to add gravel to the bottom of the pot “to help with drainage”. This is a big no-no. This creates a perched water table, where unless the soil above is completely saturated, it will not drain through the rocks, as they create a barrier.
Succulents like a deep watering after the soil has been completely dried, but sitting in soaking wet soil for too long will rot the roots and stem, and this is where gravel in your pot is problematic.
The solution is to use a gritty substrate as shown in the video, where mineral grit is mixed in to the cactus/succulent soil. This allows the roots to breathe and water to drain freely out of the bottom of the pot. Personally, I use Espoma Organic Bonsai Mix, and Espoma Organic Cactus & Succulent mix, because I love their products, and it’s easy to mix and use. Some alternatives for mineral grit are crushed granite, pumice, and turface (calcined clay like what’s in the bonsai mix).
I don’t recommend perlite like many people do, because when you water your plants, the perlite will rise to the top, and the soil will sink down and become compacted, retaining more moisture underneath.
Thank you for watching, please like and comment to let me know if you’d like more care tips about succulents! I currently own close to 150 different plants, and many of them are thriving, even in my basement apartment with no supplemental grow lights, just East and South facing windows. I’d be glad to make another video to tour my plant collection and show the setup!

This was my fastest time tracked on this run, coming in at 1:21, and going over 17mph. I’m in the blue jacket, leading the pack on my fully custom built 2021 Commencal Meta HT AM. My buddy recording is on a totally decked out Evil Insurgent.

Just finished building up my 2021 Commencal Meta HT AM frame. This was my first time really riding it, and getting it out on some real downhill trails! It rides like a dream! The build consists of a RockShox Revelation RC 140mm fork, a full SLX drivetrain and brake set, DT Swiss wheels, and Vittoria Mazza enduro tires, as well as other goodies!
Such a relief to see someone who knows what they’re doing and is a trusted source that I can relate to as far as thorough care. My fam makes fun of me for my close and careful inspection of each plant and pup and they act like I’m crazy for smelling my dirt for mold and inspecting for pests. I’ve had a blight wipe out over 75% of a year’s work of propagation and investment of time, money and my heart when my plants got sick 2 years ago and I lost nearly all of them 💔 so of course I pay close attention. Thanks for the great info!!!
Yours sound really good how did you set yours up?
Is that a ported box?
No, it was sealed in a sealed box I got online. I took it out and put it in a different jeep, but had to build a custom box to fit in the spare tire well. That one is ported and it’s loud as fuck
How do you install subs
What kind of amp you got on it?
Nice riding brother and loving those oil slick bars.
nice ride!
YOOOOO nice riding brother. Subscribed.
Thanks! Hopefully there will be more coming soon, I need to upgrade my cam for sure.
Not bad for a entry level sub bro , or even if you want just more bass for a daily car or something, for total price bro not too shabby at all
I hope to see more vids of you riding this meta , very nice bike
Just posted a new one from behind. Same run, but MUCH faster!
yooo can u make a bike check video !? 🔥👋🏽
Sure! Let me give it a bath and I’ll do one when the suns out 🤙🏼
Does this make ur vehicle shake
Absolutely!
Trevlo what type of amp do you have running on this and how many watts
@@ancient5008 BOSS R1100M, it’s 1100w peak, 250w RMS
@Ratchet Clerk Dung Head I’ve had a single one for like a year now and just haven’t installed yet I very badly need to😭. Thanks for letting me know though because I’m now impatient to get them installed😂
How much did the whole think cost?
Sorry, I’m just seeing this! The subwoofer was $130, the case was $50, the amp was on sale for $65 at the time, the speakers were about $140 for everything from eBay.
how long was your break in period?
Not sure honestly. I’m no professional and have no idea what to listen for there..
It took me about a week or two from just playing them normally . I’m running two of them in Parallel 2 ohm . From a MTX 81000D putting out 1K watts rms at 2ohms. These bad boys shake and rock my car seriously . They are fucking great for 50$ each . Very underrated . And they are in a sealed enclosure
Bro Boss is bad, but you have no worries of pushing the speaker to far. Sounds good so keep it that way
That boss if it says 1000rms will be like 150 to 250 rms so you will never have any worries of blowing
nubz detail the sub is 1000w peak, 250wrms. The sub says it’s 1100w peak and also 250wrms, and it seems fairly accurate, as this thing gets very loud for being in a sealed enclosure. I haven’t tested it with a multimeter, so I’m not 100% certain.
