We as petrol heads are true tribes of the motoring world. We all have the shared interest of engines, cars, boats, motorcycles and just about anything with a motor. On my channel I aim to give an honest review of just about anything I can get my hands on from a very average skilled perspective.
I’m a keen motorcyclist and true petrol head. I can never make my mind up on what vehicle should be next, this got me round to thinking why not try them all and let you guys know what I think.

KTM 1290 super adventure S vs R, the average joe review
After an amazing 2 years of ownership of the ktm 1290 super adventure s. I decided it was time for a swap, but what do you buy when you are very happy with what you have.
I found my self off reading my sas more and more often. This left me with the question “how much better could the super adventure R really be off road”. Well in this video you see that I finally pulled the trigger and bought the sar and traded in my old sas. Was it a mistake ?

Planning to buy the 1390 Super Adventure in 2025!
I also installed the taller windscreen on my 1290 Super Adventure R, and I have been wondering if you could swap out the adaptive cruise control and make it work on the 1290 Super Adventure R
If both bikes were equal as they both have an “off road mode” , is the S better off road in a way, or is the R better on road? So if its purpose is 100 points and secondary purpose is the opposite expressed as just points over 100, then would the S have 30 extra points off road and the R have 20 points on road? I like the electronic suspension and adaptive cruise of the S. For me “off road” would be gravel roads, fire roads, forest roads but no jumps, deep sand, or single tracks.
The R is definitely superior off road. But that doesn’t mean the S is bad off road. For my ability they both are far better then I am

Yes it did and made for a great set up for road
How good is the S Suspension off-road mode?
It wasn’t all that bad. It was however flawed in my opinion and didn’t offer as much feel as I would have liked. It will get you around gravel tracks without issue.

Yes that’s where I bought mine. They are listed for the S only a believe this is because it throws the speedo out but with gps on I had an accurate speed
I like the windscreen and the colors on the S better, but I'd rather buy the R for the off-road capabilities over the S
worse bike i ever had the misfortune to own, good luck with your R
What are the issues?
Missfire, pre load warning lights, loose headstock bearings, coolant leaks, bike always pulled to the right, clunky quickshifter..
I have also had the pre load failure on the s also. No more with the none electric suspension
I really wish the R came with the same sticker package of the S, never been a fan of the white

Nice bike! I own a 2015 KTM 1190 Adv R. Itchy to get a 23 or many juts wait to 24 Yeah my 15…. Wobbles at around 45 mpg and it goes away after. Very annoying
Mine used to do that on the 2019 I had. A bit of suspension set up and a new front tyre solved it
I hv s and r at same time in 2 places for these two difference (handling) for me is the suspension . I like the r suspension more .other are No big different。
How has the reliability been on the Adventure S?
The only fault I had was the home button falling off. Replaced under warranty.
