Why does everyone make each stage of the Bulborb life cycle into its own species? That and the empress Bulborb is just a female Bulborb it seems that’s how they reproduce. In theory each sub species should have its own empress

I think my main issue with the optional parts is that they are much more accessible than the required parts, so players are ought to collect them anyways without much hassle anyways, save for the secret safe. I think that if a third of the parts were optional instead, it may create more thinking on the players part to really pick and choose what to skip on

If you're halfway decent at the game, the optional parts system loses all relevancy because you can't decide to take off whenever you like. You can only take off on day 30 or upon getting the secret safe. There is no inbetween. This means that a player cannot decide to do a "skip optional parts" runthrough of the game, because they will be unable to actually finish it unless they deliberately waste days to get to day 30. This means that, for repeat-playthroughs, the optional parts are pretty much just more mandatory parts. The system only has relevance for absolute newcomers who are at risk of reaching the day limit.

I think a great thing to note about this too, is it works well from a story telling perspective. Obviously, olimar wants to fully repair his ship. But as time goes on he's getting desperate just to survive.

People always call the pilot's seat useless, but keep in mind, it's the whole seat, not just the seat cushion. So without it Olimar probably has to sit on exposed metal parts. You try piloting a spaceship without a seat and THEN we can talk!

I really like the way that the existence of optional ship parts (even if you don't know which parts are optional yet) encourages new players to remain hopeful, just like Olimar does. It effectively shifts the goalpost for new players struggling with the 30-day time limit - if you can't get all 30 parts in time, then just getting as many parts as you can manage and hoping it'll be enough becomes a possible fallback option.

I find it endearing how you can't liftoff without what his kids bought him, I think it says a lot more about Olimar than the quality of his ship. Maybe getting those parts ups his psyche and how much he misses his family, and gives him that boost to launch off properly. Or maybe I'm just thinking too much about a werid feature. No idea how to explain the radio though.
