Your not using the right torch for this kind of technique which is called shou sugi ban. A Japanese method from the 1800's used to charr wood and coat it after with oil yo preserve it and weatherproof it. With that small of a torch all your doing is making it look splotchy and ugly. It should be even and more uniform looking. The idea your going for is to make the wood grain pop and stand out so you wanna do long even strokes back and forth then stain it and it looks way nicer. My eyes hurt when looking at that door cause can only focus on all those splotches lol. Get a bigger torch. They have them at harbor freight for burning weeds

You can do deep char burn great for outdoor use or light burn for inside use. It's up to the individual!!!!!!!
