The 14 Gods of Tripura 14 Gods' Temple| Amazing facts
Chaturdasha Temple is a Hindu mandir situated near Old Agartala, Tripura, India, 8 KM away from the city point.This temple was built in honour of fourteen deities, together called the Chaturdasha Devata.The temple was built by King Krishna Manikya Debbarma who was the ruler of Tripura at that time(1761).
This temple is designed in the Bengali style. The dome architecture around the temple reminds the traces of Buddhist culture. All fourteen are the presiding deities of this temple as they are the Gods and Goddesses that were originally worshipped by the royal family of Tripura. The idols are made of alloy except one which is made of silver. This idol is of Lord Shiva.
The fourteen gods are worshipped by the royal priest Chantai. They are all Tripuri by birth.
The Khachi puja is performed after 15 days of Ama pechi or Ambu bachi. According to Tripuri legends Ama Pechi is menstruation of mother goddess or earth mother.So the soil is not ploughed or digging of any where on this day. So after the menstruation of mother earth during Ama pechi, the earth is considered to become unholy. The kharchi puja is performed to wash out the sins, to clean up the post menstrual uncleanly ness of earth mothers menstruation. That is why it is performed for seven consecutive days.
