Trains take us everywhere, at least here in Switzerland!
A recent visit to the Railway Musem in Bergün left us in awe of the variety of tunnels and bridges located on the Rhaetian Albula line.
The extensive model was lovingly created by Bernhard Tarnutzer who was also present at the Museum overseeing all the engines. If you are in Bergün please go and visit. It is worth it!
We were so inspired that we took the train to St. Moritz the following day to see the "real thing".

Ever wonder how they remove trees from the middle of a forest? I watched a helicopter fly out the trees one by one. The process isn't very long either. The trees are taken to a clearing where they will eventually be loaded onto a truck and transported away.

At the bottom of the Viamala Sclucht in Thusis, a river flows. In July and August the Viamala is lit up at night and becomes a magical place to walk. I spent a moment watching the water flowing past the coloured rocks faces. #viamala #thusis #vialuna #switzerland

At our local village craft festival, a smith was at work demonstrating how to make a small hook to hammer into wooden beams. After watching the skills involved in the process I purchased the exact hook being made in this video. Now I just need to decide where to put it!

After all the high water we had in Graubünden, repairs had to be done to the riverbank. This foot bridge would have been washed out if it weren't for the concrete embedding that was done during construction. as it was, the sides were washed out and that meant reinforcing was needed. I spent a few minutes watching one of the machines repairing the banks while staying upright in an active stream.

Too much of anything is not good. Bergün, in Graubünden, got hit with massive amounts of rain and it is causing flooding. In Bergün the river eroded the bank and took out the walking path. Global warming is causing our region to have too much water or not enough. I will be using this video for our Grade 2 UOI on Weather.

The Railway Bridge crosses the Daugava river in Riga. it is over 600 meters long and was built in 1872-1872. The brudge has been rebukit several times due to shelling in 1917 and 1944. A second bridge is being planned.

Well, this was a surprise! We had noticed five floating barges with packages wrapped on them. I thought it might be pyrotechnics so we asked around at our hotel. No one knew anything but a small river cruise boat captain told us the fireworks were for a private party later on that night. We showed up just in time for a small intensive show.
